This is gonna be an awesome thread.
Late evening hunt on the opener that was oh so close to ending with a big cow for my son. It would have been his second. More to come as season progresses.
I love elk country! Thanks for the pics!
Thank you for posting, good luck
Evening hunt with a goal of at least locating elk for tomorrow.

Love these Pic heavy threads.
Really slow Friday and Saturday.
Awsome photos..makes me want to go there
Yeah, love photos from hunting trips, especially the scenery ones. They can't quite duplicate being there, but they can come close. Good stuff
That's a good one.
I'm planning to be back out by Wednesday
This roughed in trail was hammered with elk/deer and moose tracks so an ambush spot ~~thought

Why is it that when ya get a response bugle to your cow calling, it's always way up top!

Silver Alert
Thinks he is Harry Potters Grandpa
Slow Adult with Handicap of Knocked Knees
Be polite if ya find him and ax him to share where the elk are.
Example of replies from when I texted this pic of myself out.
I thought I was the only Elk hunter who used a turkey vest. So dang handy. Every pocket ya need and a seat to boot.
Shane
Nice photos BULELK1. My responses typically come from a 1000' feet below me in a nasty hell hole and I'll wish I'd kept walking instead of checking. :)
Pretty country and nice shots. Hope to see one with a dead elk!
"Pretty country and nice shots. Hope to see one with a dead elk!"
You and I both. Heading out in the morning for 5 days of hunting.
Hunt.....great shots but gonna be hard to post anything that tops your bull in the meat pole thread.
Late night after an exciting evening!
Maybe these guys will be around in a few years.
My hunt is over but glassing for our group.
The bugles where echoing back and forth in these Quakies/Pines.
Morning rain and these Quakies looked florescent as the sun came back out.
Here came the sheep flock, moving off this mountain, crossing the pavement and moving up onto a different mountain...Bye--Bye
Big Daddy Pyrenees taking a break as the sheep cross the pavement
Colorado Mountains at 10,000 feet. I’m alive.
Hopefully next week I’ll have a pic of a bull down in elk country!
Almost stepped on this walking out one morning. I did use a stick to steel a quill off his backside.

Adam that is amazing how similar all three of those places look.
Foliage with a tinge of blood
Man, I’m hunting all wrong. So many of these photos look like nice easy rolling hills and open meadows. I don’t even know what that’s like.
Hidden Wallow

Playing the wind and still hunting with an occasional cow call/Hoochie-Momma.
So exciting

One morning, 9/11 it was 17 degrees when I left the truck.
Toss in the morning downdraft breeze and I bundled up.
My unit this morning coming over the pass. Summer straight to winter. WTF?
Perfect down where I’m camped though. Had bulls bugling in the drainage right behind camp. Let’s go!
I do not enjoy hunting in rain but a new hunting buddy that just won't quit.
Last morning of five days was the most fun. Pushed into a herd of 20ish cows, a few spikes, two raghorns, and one herd bull. The herd bull wouldn't "score" exceptionally high but heavy bruiser looking 5 point, narrow rack and big body compared to the raghorns. I had a screaming match with him but he'd never break 75 to 80 yards even with me having half his cows below me. I would have preferred to play him a little slower but landing between elk the wind wasn't going to cooperate forever. I finally pushed enough that a cow either saw me (fairly open country) or winded me. Most of the cows and the herd bull didn't know why they were moving shop. I'll likely be back at it Friday.
Avalanche Chutes are so lush and green
What you don’t want a pic of from elk country. Slid on rocks and took out 6 strands, back home to grab backup bow. Heading back up, only missed a morning hunt.
Bowaddict, I was in some rocky stuff over the weekend and worried about doing that. Good luck on your return.
All pix from last week/the last week of my Bow elk dates in Wyo----->
Enjoy,
Robb
Friskie Porcupine,
Don't know if she had lil' ones? But was pretty aggressive
Record breaking heat but simply beautiful and an Elk Frenzy this particular morning, the bugles almost shaking the leaves off the Quakies.
I actually Video 'ed ~ sounds~ just for all the Bugle Music----
I was on the wrong side of this lil' meadow
Relaxing out back @ Elk Camp watching the golfer's late afternoon
Last morning hunt, humid and 61 degrees @ 0630, screwy.
I should have added to gil's thread on bad habits,
Ya can't catch up to elk!!!!
I would catch glimpses of them in the pines but by the time I got around this micro meadow, bye~~bye elk
Still fun though
I'm back up to Wyo mid-October with the .45--.70 rifle
But first, leaving this mid- week for OTC Any Bull here in my home state, for a week.
I know, Milk it Robb @ my best ~~ luv it
Thanks for this thread 'hobbles',
Robb

Robb, glad to see you were out. Good luck in October. I'd planned more time in the mountains last week but some things got in the way. Maybe I'll get one more outing with the bow later this week. I'll be in antelope then pheasant country with my two boys in two weeks. Hopefully, muley country in a month and a half, followed by a lion permit that starts in December.
Thanks
I thought of our own Mulepower when I stopped in Alpine for fuel one afternoon.
Joe seems to hang out in Alpine when he comes to Wyoming
Yeh, I $pent the 10.00 for a tourist trophy and brought it home and put it above my kitchen cabinets.
Sorry Joe, I didn't buy 2.......
Just got home from the last week chasing bull elk in my home state.
All these next pix are from my Utah hunt.
Good luck, Robb

No clue where that pic came from, here is the pic I posted
Looking North over Flaming Gorge into Utah LE 3-Corners, Bull Elk, Antelope and OIL Rocky Rams/then across the border into Wyo LQ Elk 31/LQ Deer 102
Smole from the fire's sure sucks for pix.
Still hunting thru the Ponderosa Pines can be challenging as the lay of the land may just give you legs and bellies but no head/antlers.
Until one elk Barks and they are gone!
I try to use a Natural Blind when I take a break
I try to glass up bedded elk in the Lodgepole Pines before they see me and blow out, how those bull get thru there with antlers is beyond me.
It can be productive to hunt along these old fence lines and the elk will stop and hesitate before trying to jump over or more than not, turn and run another direction
Although, I have seen a few elk come running at full speed and just jump up and over, crazy.
Plus, it breaks up my silhouette and gives me a solid rest for my .45-70 rifle
Quick turnaround for me as I head out to Wyoming for elk hunting next week.
Stay safe and Happy,
Robb
Thanks all for beyond awesome pic's . That Basque rider looked familiar " KAIXO " to All ! ...
Most amazing display I have ever seen. It was a spiritual experience as it began to develop. Just sat and washed it for 10 minutes. Lit up the whole meadow.

Collegiates. Great scenery, but not a lot of Elk!
None from this year since I only hunted about an hour. Here’s some from last year though.
Kool pix fella's
I'm off to Wyo for elk hunting.

I started carrying a small umbrella a few years back. Even though I was soaked already from still hunt thru the dark timber, it was helpful, face mask, not a beard.

I just got home from chasing Wyo Elk.
It went from setting heat records to big rain and snowstorm.
Ya gotta luv hunting the Rockie Mnts.

Then it turns to those big wet snow flakes.
Adding some traction help for the next morning.
Before the weather hit, it was hot and so smokey from the Forest Fires.
Makes breathing tough.

I saw 1 other hunter On the Mountain in 8 days.
I have some unique Beaver pix, I'll share later.
Kinda swamped first full day back.
Fun thread ya started Shane.
Typical morning at a wallow in Wyoming. Ron Niziolek’s photo so he’s kind of a magnet. Beautiful animals.
Wonderful pictures, I wish I was there.
I have this Beaver Pond that I like to check on when I'm in that area, as elk seem to like it and the eats around it.
I'm bird-dogging some fresh elk tracks, as you saw, it is pretty open country around the pond when I see a Beaver coming out of the sagebrush with a tree length in its mouth.
Once @ the pond it would chew off a branch
Then swim it in the pond to about 10ft from the Beaver Pond Den and it would go underwater with the branch.
Kinda kool to watch and see how it is done.
Granted, wide open and I was worried it would see me and be gone but it worked out A-okay.
On 1 of the wet weather early AM's, I had to decide to get up and go hunting or hang in the warmth and watch Clint Eastwood movies....
Yeh, I got drenched.....thats hunting

Kinda surprise no one has been out hunting in Elk country, deer or elk or something.
these next pix are from my LE Muzzy Muley hunt in my home state.
Elk, Deer, Sheep and moose, what a fun trip.
Enjoy, Robb

Winter Range for elk, deer, antelope and sheep.
Bitter cold for sure.
How the wildlife survives for a few months in this type of country amazes me.

An antelope season sunrise.
Ive not been in the mountains hunting in some time. Life got in the way. My boys and I did take advantage of the MT antelope season in mid October and will be looking for deer Friday to Wednesday but not in typical elk country.
First lower elevation snow this year.
First lower elevation snow this year.
It did snow a little here yesterday and I had to travel for work. I saw two herds of elk, one with a bull, that were up and feeding while I was driving. I noted their locations because I may return with my boys in the next couple weeks.

I was able to catch up with my work buddy with lion hounds while out of town. Hopefully we'll use his dogs for my first lion after Christmas.
My son has convinced me to fish a few times lately with elk country in the background.
Some good looking country and pics on here.
BULELK1, I just looked at your link. The next time that I am up in that country I am going to check that area out. Thanks,Badbull.
Sure thing Bob.
It's right across the border from Colo units 1 & 201.
Good luck, Robb

Nice thread. hobbs, thanks for starting it.
Not elk, but mule deer country.
We all have had that pray for decent weather on travel day and I got it, but did it change

The following pix are from last week in Wyoming chasing them dang elk.
Enjoy,
Robb
After the snowstorm, the wind blew for hours, and the snow got blown off
I need to remind myself not to shoot at an elk up steep and high along the pines.
I have to go up and see if I hit it, blood or body in the snow, or not and talk about a lung and leg workout
My Covid x twice lungs are doing quite well, and I do carry an Inhaler with me and sometimes take a draw on it if I notice some breathing drag.
Glassing elk in the open area up high in this type of long draw, doesn't mean they will be there when ya get up there, dang it.
7 degrees, what is wrong with me!
7 degrees, what is wrong with me!
We all have been sitting in the truck cab and wondering how much colder it will be with that Wyoming Breeze blowing ~~
Dressing in layers and keeping on the hunt, hiking and pursuing elk has helped keep me warm
Using my MagView adapter on my 15 x 56's sure brings the mountain and elk in the quakies closer to ya.
Relaxing in front of the fire before going out to dinner with some Local Talent ~~
Looks like I'm going to have to go up to Jackson Hole in December, dang my luck, haha
BUIELK1, Thanks for the pics and your service, Badbull.
