Will I have any luck drawing next year? I tried doing a search but I got an error. any thoughts? Advice? 10 points deer/buck 11 points elk 13 for sheep/moose/goat/bison
Thanks
Unfortunately there are very few buck deer or bull elk limited tags that you could draw via preference. The other species you mentioned are a "once in a hundred lifetimes" type random draw for NR's. You can take a quick glance at the "draw odds" report on UDWR's website to answer your question pretty easily. Member bulelk1 from Utah has posted a link to that report on this website every time a new one comes out, for as long as I've been visiting here.
Thanks! I will check it out. I figured that about the once in a lifetime ones. Was hoping for better luck on the deer/elk tags. It doesn't even need to be a big buck/elk area, I just would like to hunt out there sooner then later.
The way UT works, the deer and elk will damn near be once in a lifetime, so long as you plan to hunt a well known unit...
OIL for elk? I’m at 20 points for elk and the units I remember taking 10 points to draw when I first started applying now take 25. So yeah, it sure seems that a good elk tag in Utah for a non-resident is a OIL tag.
You have a really slim chance each year. If you are lucky in a decade you can draw some lesser units that require a guide or trespass fee or hunting is really difficult. If you are rifle or ML hunting add another decade onto that.
Every year, Utah seems more like NIL to me.
There might be a late muzzy deer tag on a general unit you may draw?
So I am at 25 NR deer points in Utah. I seem to recall seeing there are 90+ NR with 25 or more points applying for a handful of deer tags.
Wow, that’s crazy, thanks for the info

Here is a link to a thread I did with the '24 odds.
It tells max point holders by species.
Of course all species/weapon of choice ect.
Good luck, Robb
Yeah I am at 15 elk, deer and sheep points with over 1000 other people.....:-(
I made this spreadsheet using data from the UDWR site. It shows just how bleak the odds are. For archery elk, only one person in the 10-point pool drew a tag. I have a row under each unit for regular or bonus odds.
So, for work I am doing a project in Provo Utah. I checked on hunting opportunity's and saw I can get a non resident cow elk or spike elk archery over the counter. Am I seeing this right? Also, I thought I saw an over the counter archery any bull, what is that about?
You should be able to get an OTC archery elk tag and hunt the extended area only.

Thanks for sharing, Jason.
Tim, if ya need any help, feel welcome to reach out.
JJ, if you decide to go Archery, here is the link for the Ethics Course for the Extended units.
All other OTC spike elk tags are sold out Muzzy/Rifle.
Good luck, Robb
YZF-88 those odds are deceiving. They only show odds in that point pool. Lasal la sal 11.1% odds (3 points) just mean that there was 1 tag awarded in that pool and there were 9 applicants. It completely ignores applicants with more or less points who did not draw.
Lasal Lasal 2024 had 138 NR apps for 4 tags.
What one needs to consider is how many others have more points then them, how many tags are issued, and how many give up each year and stop applying - assume 3% for that.
Also the NR who drew had 7 points not 3
Thanks Bule! Odds are definitely bleak, I never would have suspected that when I started playing the game long ago.
Thanks for the info. I am going to look into this next year when I believe I will have to go out to close out the project when complete.

Here is some info on the Extended units.
Just to get to know the rules and to maybe plan for the future.
With the 30-day-ish General bow season dates and then add these Extended dates ~~ Good long time to bow hunt them dang elk.
See my link.
Good luck, Robb
