I’m stoked, Kiki finally announced their super cold weather whitetail gear.

I’ve worn the Sitka Fanatic for years & really appreciated the warmth & how quiet the fabric was-couldn’t stand the pattern.

My old Fanatic set is going to go up for sale here shortly!

18-Sep-24
Haha supposed to say Kuiu-not Kiki.

I was super impressed how easily the Proximity set sheds burrs & stickums using my burr glove, looks like this has the same outer fabric so I won’t have to spend hours picking burrs out of my gear post-late season hunts!

Anyone want to buy a XXL Sitka fanatic jacket?

I love my proximity and will continue to use it a lot. This jacket would be great for those upper Midwest lows that get into the teens when a good November cold front hits.

I’m going to stick with Valo

About time KUIU got serious about what is likely the largest hunting clothing segment there is.

Should be cheap. I can barely afford a Kuiu t-shirt.

wonder if i'll be able to find some good pricing on a fanatic setup

19-Sep-24
Cool isn’t cheap & cheap shit isn’t cool lol

I’m holding off until some guy Kota has something to say about it.

I’m not gonna say it’s cheap, but certainly doesn’t seem out of line with competitors offerings as far as cost. Essentially the same $ as Sitka fanatic.

Love the looks of this for when the Proximity is not enough. I could see this being awesome for extreme cold. Don’t know if I’ll make this leap or not…I’m retired now, so it’s REAL money now. ;)

I don’t have a need for this. But, I like the proximity line up a lot. If they did as good on this one it’s a good’er one.

what temp ranges do you suggest for proximity line?

i recently purchased the proximity jacket and returned it. i thought the fit was terrible, and i have a few other kuiu jackets that i like. the fit of the proximity was too big and bulky in comparison.

i recently checked out the video of their new upland game bird vest. this was something i was very interested in as i do a lot of chukar hunting. they really missed the mark on this vest and i am disappointed. the weight alone is ridiculous.

lately, it seems to me they are rushing to develop and bring clothing to market. some of the designs are not as good as they used to be imo, and the fit has changed in my experience.

years ago, i purchased a pro merino mid layer in size large. fits great. i recently saw the same item on sale and purchased another. same size and i could barely get it on.

on another subject somewhat related, i own clothing with both the valo and verde camo pattern. i live and hunt mostly the high desert - lots of sage, juniper, open country, etc. out of curiosity i set clothing with both camo patterns against various backdrops and lighting. i fully expected the valo to blend better in this type of terrain and vegetation. i was surprised the verde appeared to blend better, to my eyes. i know deer and elk see different and this was in no way intended to be scientific, but rather just an observation that i found interesting.

carry on......just morning ramblings.

“what temp ranges do you suggest for proximity line?”

I have the proximity jacket and pants. For me with a base layer and a mid layer I can hunt comfortably in temps down to the 20’s. It does have wind stopper. Now how good is it? I never felt the wind cutting through it but if it’s fairly breezy and temps are in the 20’s or colder it’s easy to get chilled.

I'm with Michael. I'm confident with a vest under it, I'd be fine in the 10's or singles in my proximity, but it rarely gets that cold here anymore during deer season it seems, so I've not gotten to test that theory.

Ill admit that while I love my Proximity stuff, I often end up wearing their lightly insulated pants (cant remember the product name) with a guide jacket, and bring my proximity vest. I end up putting the vest on after being in the tree for a while as temps fall. That combo has been great for me down to the mid 30's...

I’ll just continue to fill my tags in SEP and save myself $1000??

How is the durability of the Haven? I am leery of some Down clothing as not being very durable. Hopefully it won’t tear or rip easily.

The fanatic has worked fine for me so far. Don’t know if I have a “need” to change until it wears out (or pass it down to my sons)

Anyone else switching from fanatic to Proximity/haven?

This would be their first real bib, rather than the slightly higher back with suspenders.

“Cool isn’t cheap and cheap shit isn’t cool”

There might not be a statement I disagree with more than that one… the guy who kills a deer with a pawn shop longbow in jeans and a flannel or old military surplus stuff is about 50x cooler than the dude decked out in sitka/kuiu/firstlite/origin who shoots one with his $2000 bow setup…

That’s coming from a guy that has all the Sitka stuff in the back of my closet and a $2000 bow setup… If you wanna see what real “cool” is, slide over to the leatherwall.

20-Sep-24
I shoot traditional LOL.

I'll stand by my statement. 99% of the time you absolutely get what you pay for- optics/broadheads/boots/truck etc. Not saying you can't get it done with hand me downs or off the rack @ walmart as I've had to do that too.

Some take pride in how cheap they can get by & that's all good for them. I work hard & dole out my money wisely, not going to feel bad about trying out new stuff

First off, I generally love Kuiu. But be careful if you’re interested in the upland Brush pant. It’s light. Very comfortable. But you can feel thorns through it. And mine are fraying and ripping around the bottom cuffs after one season of moderate use. I think I probably used them for 20-25 days or something in 2023 and they’re wearing out. . . . Not sure that’s worth $199

I just checked out their vest too. Seems like too much to me. I guess if you’re chasing birds out west and walking miles from the truck it would be great. For me, hunting within a mile of the truck most times, it’s overkill

As a stickbow shooter and someone that frequents the leatherwall, i like your sense of humor.

I'm not sure why anyone feels the pattern on that clothing would be better than whatever version of the Fanatic they have. If one strictly hunts the ground, I suppose I could see that. You are definitely cheap and not cool if you don't spend near the $500 mark for basically every article of clothing. I know I'm not-so-patiently waiting for my set.

I’ll wait to hear from someone who has it. You can hear it when he moves it around in the video. Might not be quiet enough.

I may have gotten a blem but I immediately returned the Proximity jacket. The material did not compare to the Proximity pants which I kept and like. Extreme cold in Oklahoma is not extreme Iowa cold. At single digits I'm in Clarkfield ASAT insulated coveralls made in Minnesota. Never let me down.

Tjm1534, Susan was the best. I would see her every year at our area outdoor show in Suffren, NY. I have a Raven Wear vest, with Sherpa lining, and the Muff/Mat. Built to last, super warm and quiet. I wish I bought a pair of bibs, still kicking myself almost 20 years later.
