3 pt Fertilizer Spreader

Looking at purchasing a fertilizer spreader and wondering if it's worth $129 extra to have a poly hopper rather than steel? Looking at the Tarter brand.

I've had a steel one for about 20 years. I always wash it well after each use.

I have found the bigger issue than the hopper { long as you wash after each use}is the plastic drive gears that some of the cheaper ones use fragile drive gears.If 3 pt go metal cone spreader for sure.

Mine has a poly hopper, although I had a metal one for years. I had the inside as well as the spreader wheel shot with bedliner when it was brand new. I washed it off each time I used it and dropped a dollop of motor oil on the gates inside. It still disintegrated after about 20 years ! ;-)) The new one has a stainless steel spreader wheel but I still wash it off after every use and pour that dollop of motor oil into it also. It will outlast me I’m sure.

I only buy the poly hopper. Just a preference. It’s much lighter to maneuver onto your 3-pt.

I have a steel one. After applying fertilizer, I wash it out thoroughly, allow it to dry, and apply a light coating of oil to all metal surfaces.

Poly with stainless parts definitely. Wash after use.

Have a 1K capacity 3 pt poly….love it!…..wash it and grease it has lasted a long time

Poly, stainless, wash, wash some more, coat the stainless moving parts with anti-sieze.

Find the settings that you like for fertilizer and lime. Measure where the indicator is for each setting. Write it all down. Take photos. The paint, stickers, decals, arrows, or whatever may not last into the second year.

Even so, plan on buying a new one in 20 years, No worries.
