Story at the link.

A testament to the nutritional value of dirty disposable diapers and moldy pizza crusts (the normal fare for NJ bears!)

Congratulations to the hard-working hunter who got this brute.

I helped get a 400 lb bear out of the woods in Pa. (4 guys). Don’t think I would want to deal with a 700+!

But Congrats to the hunter! Hope he got it out and got the hide off quick! All that fat gotta really hold the heat………………

Bears and Cats are measured in 1/16’s inch. The current Pope & Young World record is also from New Jersey and measures 23 5/16”. North East Pennsylvania has some of the very best bear genetics and some of those genetics have wondered into New Jersey.

I wonder if that dressed “weight” was on a scale, or an estimate. It’s a big bear for sure, but I sure would not think the pounds stated in the article.

Zoom in on the scale.

NJ does have a lot of huge bears, some of them live a very long life since hunting pressure there is fairly low and seasons have been on and off there. Mild winters ... Also, the same genetics as Charlie referred to in NE PA. That part of NJ also has a lot of farms, my guess is this fatso was eating a lot of corn lately.

In the pics in the article linked it shows a picture of it on a scale.

Holy hockey ! I might just hide from that bear if I saw it in the woods.

He's seriously chubby Dana! That NJ bear is a tank. It is amazing the numbers... and size of some of the bears around, that's for dang sure.

A beastly, beauty, brute, of a bear that bears recognition for sure.

Ace: There isn't a corn field for miles anywhere near where this bear was killed. (My winter home is less than 20 miles away.) I'd bet good money that monster was living on acorns and trash/garbage. I'll be very interested to learn the age of the bear. Bears there get old and thus large, by avoiding people as much as possible. The younger ones that get into mischief don't last long enough to get big.

As my magnification on the scale readout pixeled into distortion, only the first digit of 7 was legible, and I began to think, that could bend that tailgate into crap. Also, what is that pink circle/growth on the belly?

For a little perspective of a bear scored 22” or better it sits in the top 1/2 of 1% of all P and Y bear entries… that’s assuming my math is correct . An amazing animal and a dream of mine and many enthusiastic bear hunters… congratulations Brian
