Has anyone tried the Vuity eyedrops? My understanding is it is a diluted medicine that was, at one time, used to treat Glaucoma. It causes constriction of some of the vessels in your eye that help in focusing closer in.

I was thinking of trying it in my dominant eye at a drop or 1/2 of a drop to help my pin clarity. It is not something I would use every day. Just something for when I practice at closer distances. As I have aged, I notice my groups at 40 - 60 are still good, but at 20-30 yards my precision/group tightness has declined (as my pin blur has increased at those shorter distances).

Side effects are some blurring at longer distances and some headache (supposedly the headache is from daily uses).

Any of yall ever tried it?

I have never tried it, but my eye issues are pretty extreme, two more surgeries in the next few weeks

My suggestion is see an eye Dr you trust and like and get their opinion. You only get one set of eyes, and you don't want to take chances with them.

Good luck, I understand your frustration. Hopefully these next two surgeries work, as I am running out of options

Is it safe to assume that that stuff if by prescription only, or has it gone OTC??

Personally, I’d not mess with anything without talking to my ophthalmologist first, going over my entire medical history, and then maybe the Doc would have samples? No sense filling the script if it doesn’t work for you….

Let me back up - I did talk with my eye doctor about it and he suggested I give it a try before considering using a reading contact lens in my eye right eye. I have not filled the script yet but wanted to gather any experience others may have had with it in the same application.

bg - good luck with your surgeries. I have damaged one of my eyes in some dumb accidents and understand the frustration that can surround vision loss. I was very fortunate and my eye made a full recovery but I well remember my anxiety prior to the recovery.

Vuity works best for patients 40 -52 years old and has had a high dropout rate in our practices due to performance and the average $80/month cost. It’s diluted pilocarpine so does have potential side effects associated with it.It’s Rx only.

What Genesis said. Also, it constricts the pupil, not the vessels, of the eye. The smaller pupil leads to a larger depth of focus which help with clarity somewhat. Very few longer term users in my practice either although we used to use it a lot back in the day treating Glaucoma. Most all of the patients hated it then but it was at a much higher concentration.

Sounds like you just got 2 practices’ worth of good feedback, and it’s enough for me to make my own decision….

1) It works best for people who are substantially younger than I am.

2) It constricts the pupil, which is no problem at 2:00 PM on a sunny day, but the last thing you probably want during the Magic Hours at the beginning and end of legal light.

Single-vision contacts at 20:15 acuity and keeping a cheap pair of readers in my pocket sounds like a better deal for me.

If it only works by making the pupil smaller then it seems like you'd get the same effect by going to a smaller peep.

Thank you. It is not something I would intend to use when I hunt or on a day to day basis. Just to tighten my groups when I practice at sub-30 yards. Beyond that my pin blur is not too bad (yet) and that may also be a product of larger pin gap at 40-60 yards.

I am 53 and have 20/20 w/out correction but my near vision I need 1.0-2.0 readers depending on the font/drawings I am trying to read and the lighting. The cost, at the frequency I would use for just shooting, is immaterial.

I may go to fewer pins next year on my bow and using a moveable sight for distance to see if that would help. It does not sound like anyone has used it for just bow shooting so I will give it a whirl for a test.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Stop me if I’ve missed something, but doesn’t this drug treat NEARsightedness (which you just said that you don’t have)??

12-Nov-24
OK — I see what I missed.

With ample light, it may work for you, for the same reason that bright light alleviates the need for readers…

Makes me wonder if you could get there with brighter pins, or maybe a longer bar to long-arm the pins for you?
