I am looking to do an Alaskan moose hunt in 2026 with a budget of $35k and most likely will do rifle(sorry) and am looking for recommendations on an outfitter please. This is my ultimate bucket list hunt I have been dreaming about since I was 15. I am 58 and can finally afford it although body is a bit beat up but not bad. Thanks for any help
I’d check out Jim Shockey if it were me , good luck
Check over on Rokslide. com, theres lots of moose info
Congratulations! I am 45 and that is also the dream hunt my wife and I are going to do at 57 or 58... depending when we retire. Please update who you decide to go with, and then update how the hunt goes when you make it out there. (I don't care if it is a rifle hunt!)
Call Jonah’s Alaskan Outfitters
Heck just pay for my trip, we'll book a transporter, and you can keep what's left of the $35k :o)
From what I've seen, guys hire a guide mainly because they're worried about packing out a moose. A guide knows he's not likely to get much help from the client. Therefore, guides typically tether their clients to a tent stake so that the pack distance is minimal.
I went with Jonah this year. I believe most, if not all, gun hunters filled their tag. I stuck with a bow but could have shot a 53” and 63” (guides estimate) with a gun. Well run operation.
When you find someone check a lot of references from him and online. Time well spent. You have a good budget and should find a good outfitter. I also suggest rokslide forums.
FYI most good ones will be booked beyond 2026, if it is a cancellation make sure it really is that - lots of guys get burned.
You are doing good looking this far out, but you may need to wait another year - be prepared to wait longer if needed.
There are AK units that are over carrying capacity with moose. Call the state biologist and ask.
Hunt one of those units. With a rifle you can kill a moose without a guide. They are very easy to hunt. If your in a good area. Book a drop hunt the last 2 weeks of the season. And take another younger, fit hunter with you. Don’t hunt rivers that locals pound 10 months of the year
2 hunters, two moose= $20k then spend the other $10k somewhere else.
2nd Jonah. Check out his website as they kill monsters every year and most tags are filled every year. Great guides also.
Jonah has a great following but could be booked up for years
Not Alaska but my bro has had a couple hunts with Yukon big game outfitters and highly recommends
Went to NW British Columbia in 2023 with Fire Mountain Outfitters.
Don’t rule out the Yukon. I’ve heard lots of good reports on Ceasar Lake outfitters.
Ceaser has pricing online…
Just seems so crazy to me.. I don’t get it…. I want to go sooo.bad, I could afford it, but I just can’t justify paying that kind of money….maybe If I had, Elon musk money, then I guess ok…. But damn…. This is out of hand
Jonah’s Alaskan outfitters My dad’s bull from this year. He shot with rifle. My father’s 67.
I was bowhunting and didn’t get a bull but had some great encounters. I did get a black wolf that I shot with my dads rifle.
How far was the wolf shot
The wolf was right at 200. A pack of 9 came in. I immediately had my eye on this one.
I'm surprised there isn't a couple of guys on bowsite needing a 3rd or 4th seasoned, in shape, willing to spend 2 weeks going to AK and hunting moose in a group at a discount .... guys like me who would love to moose hunt just once in AK but really have no way to set it up with a group. Its not like solo hunting in Colorado for elk !!
Check out Stan Parkerson with Denali Hunts. He’s an archery only outfitter. He’s a straight shooter.
Troy did you catch him with a rod and reel or shoot him with an arrow? He’s living in the river! Lol
Stan is no longer moose hunting based on a call from this past fall
Looks like Troy shot him beside someone's front lawn. It's another WR elk situation...
I certainly wouldn’t want to get caught by the guy badassed enough to cart a lawnmower up to this spot! ;-)
Stan is Jo moose outfitting any more? Still doing bear?
sounded like he might be selling his business and just not taking moose hunters for foreseeable future.. He had two or three griz hunts open yet...
this was from last fall, things may have changed, but i couldn't locate his website..
He’s still doing moose hunts, but I think he’s booked out a couple years.
I'll be grizzly hunting with Stan in May. He did tell me he's retiring. I think I may be one his last spring grizzly hunts.
Wish I could have went with him
I'll be moose hunting with Stan this September... and we'll be hunting Coues Whitetail in a few weeks. Looking forward to it. Ed F
Renfros has very good guided moose hunts.
I did one with Kirk @ devils mountain lodge in Nabesna, Ak a couple years ago. In your price range, great guys very high success rate and lots of bulls are dying from old age in there area. Mine was upper 50s wide & 11-1/2 yrs old, hunting partners was younger but 60+. Pretty easy physical hunts. Liam or Jesse are both great guides to go with for several Alaskan species.
