Which do you prefer and why? I have used the tablets a lot. Anyone downwind hates me. Thinking about trying the pen - pros and cons? I would still carry the tabs just in case. I am not picky about flavor or clear water.

I use the steripen but typically in high country with clear water. it worked great on a backpack sheet hunt. I use two quart nalgene bottles. if you do steripen, call them and get their recommendation on which batteries to use.

I use a sawyer squeeze filter after years of using tablets. It just tastes better and it weighs 3 ounces.

I use Steripen as primary and Aquamira drops as an alternate. (If I broke the pen). I use lithium batteries and never have an issue for a full trip.

Aquamira works fine for me as I am usually not in a rush to drink water (Similar to tablets)

I just bought a katadyn pump filter to replace the one I can't find. I like it pretty well..I've never used tablets or steripen.

Maybe try some chlorine dioxide tablets. I use a pump water filter and I carry chlorine dioxide tablets for emergencies. I make everyone in my camp carry chlorine dioxide just in case since as they weigh nothing. I also use a drop of bleach sometimes in my filter water from the purifying pump or gravity filter. I believe the directions say wait a few hours before drinking. I would gladly wait a while to prevent beaver fever. Get Beaver fever and your hunt is over and the hospital visit will more be expensive then your hunt lol.

Potable Aqua Chlorine Dioxide

“Potable water tablets with 2.6 times the oxidizing capacity of chlorine Effective against bacteria, viruses and cysts, such as Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium when used as directed No aftertaste — improves the taste and odor of water Meets EPA microbiological purifier standards”

Thanks! I would never carry a filter, tablets work great and are quick. I am really curious about the pen.......................

Been using Steripen for over 10 years now, works great for me. Used the new Rechargeable model (USB connection) this Season, happy so far with the charge life, and no need to mess with Batteries.

My kids gave me the Steripen when it first came out. I used it couple of times is all. Mine stopped working- not sure why.... and I just dumped it.

I put rechargeable batteries in my Steripen after it wouldn’t work with standard batteries. I think they have a slightly higher voltage that makes a Steripen work better. I use mine in Arizona with rechargeable batteries every winter and have not had issues. I take two sets for a ten day back country hunt.
