Looking for real world reports on ozonics in box blinds. Im aware of the potential lung issues of using enclosed; would only be using with a window open. Do they really work as advertised? Tell me the pros and cons please.

Thanks!

The cons are your health. The pros are you may kill something. You decide

Ozone is pretty incredible when utilized in conjunction with a blind.

There is some sensationalism with how bad it could be for you regarding a battery powered unit like an Ozonics. While not advised to use it in a closed space.....the tech came from infield surgery during battle. Yes - very different scenario but people werent dying in tents from 03. I have a Safety and Industrial Hygiene background for what its worth and will use ozone in a blind, with my kids and a couple open windows.

The work as advertised part is subjective, right? Can you do everything wrong and allow the tech to make up for it? No. Do they help significant? Yes. Some deer flip at the smell of ozone...most do not.

If a deer can't smell me while I'm sitting on the ground in the wide open with zero wind, then how does ozonics help? Also, when I was a kid and we sat in borrowed box blinds on our permissions, we never got winded anyway. I mean, if you're frying eggs and bacon while smoking, it would make sense you would be concerned about scent

Thorton here in MI the deer are so pressured that they bolt at the slightest scent from a blind. The calm days are not the issue for me…it’s the days with wind that are the issue.

Here is a pic of a buck I took out of a box blind, a couple weeks back. As you can obviously tell in the pic, (eye roll) the buck is directly downwind of me. Had 2 ozonics running, plus I sprayed Nosejammer around my position. I inadvertently sprayed some on the camera lense, causing the blurry pic.

Thornton…….Craig asked for real world observations from guys that have ACTUALLY used the product. Craig…. I’ve used an ozonics unit a few times, but not enough to give you much input as to whether they work as advertised or not. I have a few friends that have used them in blinds (attached outside) and they seem to get mostly positive results, unless it is pretty windy.

If you have a dependable wind velocity and direction Ozonics definitely works. I’ve seen it too many times. I have had deer, pigs, and coyotes come from directly down wind and not spook. Windows have to be manipulated according to the wind and the unit has to be mounted and aimed in such a way that the air from the machine acts like a waterfall on your scent stream. Ozone is heavier than air and it “captures the scent molecules on the way down if it’s used correctly. If you have the infamous “light and variable” winds, go fishing instead. If you have a 5/10 mph wind from a steady direction, manipulate the windows accordingly. It works ! The naysayers are almost 100% guys who have never used one but they are self styled experts !

No experience in a box blind, but have used them in pop ups and treestands. I believe they work better in a blind than a tree, but do help in a tree. In a groundblind, as drycreek says, positioning is most important.

In a tree, I just point it downwind above me and let it do its thing. My last 2 bears were killed after coming in from downwind using Ozonics. Ive had numerous deer downwind in treestands and blinds, could have shot some but never noticed a negative reaction to the o3.

Scent control is still needed, but I think the o3 makes up for some, not all mistakes. And if it buys you a few seconds extra to make it count, what can it hurt.

Maybe this one guy from AK will chime in on his use of it in blinds for bears. I’d take his experience over some guy who wears orange and smells like gunpowder.

I cant deal with the noise it makes.

Forest that’s an interesting point I hadn’t thought of. It’s just a small fan from what I’ve read, so how loud is it?

For what it’s worth, I don’t run one in my redneck blinds. Never have, never will.

I seal up my blinds with all windows closed and top vents sealed.

I have never been smelled once, not even with two people in the blind. One time last year I had 110 deer in every direction of the blind when I was killing does in January over bait. That included downwind.

Ozonics would require me to open a window and run a fan! Why would I do that when I am never winded without the contraption?

I know guys swear by it but I just have no interest in using one. I would feel silly and do fine without it.

If you hunted in Texas in October Pat, you would melt in a sealed blind. It’s bad enough with all the windows open. A friend and I used to hog hunt at night (rifles…..eek) with sweat running down the crack of my ass, we killed lots of hogs using the Ozonics. The big boars will often circle the corn (double eek) to get down wind before coming in. Made no difference to them , I’ve had them walk within 10’ of me straight down wind.

In your case, I wouldn’t use it either, and I don’t if I have the wind in my favor. It requires lugging another piece of stuff to the stand and if I don’t need it, which is more than half the time, I don’t use it. I just get really tired of guys that have never used one saying it doesn’t work when they are talking out of their keesters.

Craig- I hunt public a lot here in KS and now OK. We've got deer that do the same thing.

Cazador- no orange, and no guns. My 30th year bowhunting.

Looks like T-roy owns the best hunting spot around, passing bucks that big and shooting huge ones every year.

But the wind never blows in Iowa so he has that advantage

When is somebody going to invent the Nose Jammer "generator" with Ozone and a dash of Ozempic thrown in....so I can lose weight while sitting on my arse in a deer stand?

Ozonics, that's a No. Bad enough using a box blind but at my age they are nice.

Young guys sitting in them, on deer farms. Which is what most land is. I would be bored to death.

Grew up tracking deer, Ontario. MN, Wis UP, different times now, lots of deer zoos out there... that's killing, not hunting. Nothing wrong with it, but realize the true difference

First year using Ozonics and I am a believer. Was concerned about aggravating my asthma but if yoI do it right, it is hung on the downwind side of the stand from me. My box blind is in a wind row and I can reach tree outside my window to hang my Ozonic unit. If I didn't have a tree I would figure out a way to hang it outside.

Groundhunter, when I hunt, my main objective is to kill something, otherwise you’re just an armed hiker.

IH, and Safety background as well. Also, someone who has personal experience with occasional lung issues. No way I would ever use one in an enclosed blind.

Especially since I have never used one and am plenty successful in tree stands, open and closed blinds, natural back drops or just plain out in the open.

Drycreek, fair point. I only hunt blinds in late fall/winter up north.

Midwest- as I mentioned earlier, I do get winded. Old does are my nemesis. This time of year though, you can get away with almost anything.
