Anyone ever get drawn in WY random draw?
Elk

So I’ve burned my elk and antelope points. Figured what the heck, I’ll put in for the random draw even though odds are slim. As my WY buddy Dan says, you can’t draw if you don’t put in! Any Bowsiter even get drawn that way?
Yes, elk Gen, been 5-6 years ago though…

Back in 2018 Ike, myself and 2 of his friends put in with zero points for 7 point unit. If I remember right they gave out 1 nonresident tag on the random side. We all received tags since we did a party app. We all shot archery bulls on our 2 week hunt.
So yes there is a chance
Saphead for the win!!!!! Mic drop…

No one ever draws in the random pool. Don't bother. It's a lot of money borrowed out for a long time for a whole lotta nothin.
Yes, quite a few times as I seem to never have more than 2 points and then draw.
More 'Cheapie Fee' tags than 'Pricey $ee' tag and that is nice too.
Less than a month out, and we can start applying for Wyoming, man time fly's.
Good luck, Robb
I’ve drawn two random elk tags in Wyoming. Both times I thought I had enough points but I ended up being about a point short both times. I got lucky and pulled a random. One limited entry and one general.
Elk this year for unit 24 and antelope about ten years ago.
Twice for LE elk in a span of 11 years. Odds were less than 2% each time. Second tag was a real blessing as it got me permanently out of the points racket and I shot a bull.
Nope, never, in any state. My luck is terrible.
Never, and I hate everyone that has.
Not in the regular draws but I did draw a commissioner’s tag in Wyoming once. That was cool!
What are the odds for NR general tag in the random these days?
2024 NR Random E-15% S-6.4% W-9.7%
“If I remember right they gave out 1 nonresident tag on the random side. We all received tags since we did a party app. “
I think you remember wrong. They do not magically add not nonres tags to the quota when a party larger than quota size gets drawn. They kick you out of the draw and go to next applicant who is within quota available.
It wasn't 1 NR tag in the random. It was 2 in the special and 3 in the regular draw. And all 4 of us got tags. That's how it works in WY.
Wyoming will go over their quota if the last application drawn is a party app.
We hope to get drawn that way this year:)
WY most certainly does extend quota to meet the number of applicants in a party app.
Yes once it was unit 62 aprox. 15 years ago. It was funny because I drew with points the year before. I about pooped myself when draw results came out.

You’re wrong. That’s what Colorado does, not Wyoming. Wyoming adds the entire group app
Like others have said, Wyoming does add the entire group.
Never a LE unit, but 4 times random in the Gen Elk.
14 and 15 drew as a second choice on the special draw. Drew 54-9 with 11 points in 2020 then Gen Elk with 0 in 2021. Again in 2023 got a Gen Elk with 1 point.
Hoping for something similar this year as well. I've never drawn a random LE tag in any state, so I'll take those as payback for 40 years of nothin in the draws.
Cheers, Pete
Is random draw only applicable for 1st choice, or does 2nd Choice have a shot a random as well?
Yep KHunter they do give out over the quota for party apps. Spouse drew his bighorn sheep on the random side of the resident draw, WG&F confirmed that for me.
I've drawn two WY tags in the random pool. Once for elk on a Type 9 tag and then a moose tag.
Never and have applied for deer, pronghorn, and elk for almost a decade. But a few years ago my brother got a type 1 unit 30 elk tag in the random so it does happen.
“Never, and I hate everyone that has“
^^^ This ;-)
Not for mule deer or antelope. I drew for the first time for elk last year... and I live in WY.

Yes. 2017 elk LE unit.
So I am saying there is a chance.
I have had three friends draw with zero points
I have some friends from Indiana. They drew general elk on points one year and then random tags the next two years. Lol
I haven't in Wyoming. For me, that's a lot of coin to front for 6 months with odds that are too low. However, I have lucked out in random draws 5 times...and all 5 of those heads are in my living room so I have no reason to bitch! Only one of those tags had double digit odds. Utah - 4% Utah - 3% Idaho - 1.8% Idaho - 11% Idaho 1.8%
I especially hate YZF-88! ;-)
That's incredible!
so does anyone know the answer to my question about 2nd choice random?
Only applies to your 1st choice.
BB drew his final WY moose tag in the random draw, I believe, and had an epic hunt
Been trying to get back to a general area since I drew a couple years back. Incredible hunt and time. Going random with 2 points this year still can't stomach the special fee.
^^Since its only been a couple years, you may not notice a big difference. We had 6 years between GEN hunts in the same area. The amount of people and the amount of deadfall compared to 2018 was unreal! I am not going to bother with that tag again, even tho we both shot elk within the first 4 days of our hunt.
Hard to say, but where we hunted it was a ghost town and we had no deadfall at all really to deal with. I thought the elk up there were almost tame compared to OTC in CO. Anyways, I hope to hit that random.
KHNC I thought you were looking to go back and fill your tag during rifle?
Nope, not worth the trouble! ;-)
Actually I've drawn random a few times. And btw, the number of points you have does not change your odds in the random draw...
Giving away all your secrets Mike :)
I don't have any secrets anymore! ;-)
"KHNC I thought you were looking to go back and fill your tag during rifle?"
Correct, i still had a bull tag. Did not find anyone that i could get a hunt lined up with on short notice tho.
