Whitetail Deer

Stupid. And although they thanked Jesus, I doubt He approves.
Only looks 987-3/8" to me...8^)
That is just insane! Hard to believe what they are doing to deer these days. Not just whitetails but mule deer and even Coues in Mexico.
I’d be proud shooting a buck like that in a pen ;)
I wonder if Kuiu is proud that guy is wearing their shirt.
R
Unfortunate on all counts.
The guy owns a bunch of Dominos pizza franchises. Business must be good.
I wonder how long it took for them to patten this buck?…
He hunts all over the world. Pizza must be very good business! https://www.venator.co/journal/the-kings-slam
I agree 100% with Ambush.
Interestingly enough, that bucks name on the hit list was “The Noid”
If there’s one thing that makes me wanna puke more than the commercial production of freakish livestock just to service the greed for Inches…. it’s “praising Jesus” for commercial gain.
Exactly why I chose to get back into bird hunting with bird dogs on public... It's not a contest guys.
If nobody paid to shoot, nobody would raise these freaks. This guy would be better off bidding against the Jimmy Johns guy so the money would go towards a worthy cause. Do not claim it as any kind of a record whitetail unless there is a freak section.
Makes me wanna puke. I feel sad for the livestock.
^^ I feel sad that a beautiful wild animal is reduced to the status of 'livestock'. And deliberately made into a 'freak'.
I used to marvel at 'trophy' deer, but when they're just a dam' commodity, there's nothing marvelous about that.
Not sure why folks would want to hunt a pen raised Buck it isn’t something I would ever want to do. Some non typical deer in the wild I do like to see but when the bucks antlers look like a “Musk Rat” hunt I just feel sorry for what folks have done with nature to make money off a hunt for folks to kill them just for a scoring system and the fame. Also I hate Dominos pizza period.
It's not hunting, it's called shopping. Like the Sanctuary in Michigan, and other high fence, pay by the inch game farm/zoo, bottle fed from birth operations. I enjoy sitting in the woods just watching nature, as opposed to pounding my chest about my "trophy" deer.
I wouldn't be surprised if they microchip the deer at birth so they know exactly where they are.
what a shame for the deer and hunters. the three of them in that photo is not something i can comprehend.
I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. Nasty, I'd rather shoot a spike buck in the wild. I'd rather never hunt again than pay to shoot something like that. Sad, sick. Anyone know how much he paid to shoot that buck?
What a shame. He'd have been a real shooter in a year or two.
He could slice that rack up and replace the pepperoni for a new variety of pizza... that would be a better place for it than being on display.
The word gross comes to mind wishing I hadn’t looked Lewis
Unfortunately that is what our society is coming to, a competition as to who is willing to pay the most. Nothing to do with “Sportsmanship”or “Fairchase” Personally I’d rather shoot a grain finished Hereford steer, more and better meat with just as much challenge.
Raising whitetail to kill them will just never make sense to me. Sad on all accounts. The thrill of the chase will never compare to this crap.
One of, if not the most regal animals in NA for everyone and they have been simply disgraced .
Baiting, high fences, 24 hour surveillance, box blinds, the list goes on and on. Sad what the hunting community has done and continues to allow to happen all in the name of inches. Pathetic!
Can you even look at a big buck these days and not question the manner of take? Sad!
What a waste of time. I would much rather look a pic of a button buck than this "farm" deer.
I truely feel bad for this deer.
I feel bad for the animal, carrying that around all day.
It’s one of the few times l actually feel sorry for the animal. Can’t imagine the neck and shoulder pain that GMO buck had to endure to satisfy some breeder’s twisted concoction.
With that being said I wouldn’t mind that buck running around banging a few of my NY does. I may actually have a shot at one making 125” in 2-3 years.
I spoke to a guy that raises some whitetail. Game farm bucks often need to be shot pretty young, 1,5 y can be 200” so 2.5 y is often the target age to shoot. Animals are generally unhealthy. No guarantee they will live another year. And the antlers can grow too big, lopsided etc for the buck to be viable.
With the young age at Harvest though it’s a quicker ROI as well. Don’t have to wait for 4-5 years like a wild herd to get shooters ;)
Sad. I think this is way to much.
"I hate Dominos pizza period" ... Yeah, they taste like cardboard...8^)
I don't see any blood, Is that buck really dead or just tranquilized? Also, look how small that buck's body is, by no means a giant...
"$24k" isn't that much when it comes to pen raised whitetails, heck I'd heard 1 semen straw for artificial insemination of high-end penned bucks can bring over 6-grand each... Heck the owner probably makes more than 24-grand on 1 cum shot...8^)
But a cactus buck like that, still in velvet…. Probably hypogonadal and sterile anyway, so sell him by the pound while he can still keep his chin out of the dirt…..
It all started when, some celebrity hunters of the past, started to name the deer, geesh, that never set well with me. I said to one at a Deer Classic, your turning this into Disneyland production.
Then we turned to food plotting, and deer farming, and on and on.
Shooting a big woods fair chase buck, of any size was unappreciated, had to be a buck, that meets a score card. Deer hunting was turning into a golf game.
And your surprised at what you see now? Look in the mirror. Some lost the true sense of deer hunting along time ago.
Equating genetically altered deer to food plots and improving wildlife property misses the problem.
Deer are one of the only NA specie that thrives BY living WITH us. This genetic alteration does nothing but messing with an already perfect deer.
Why even write the article and try to make believe that has anything to do with hunting?
Shooter is wearing KUIU. Guy on the left is wearing Sitka and the guy on the right has on a shirt in Mossy Oak Bottomland. Just to be clear.
Hell I’d shot it anyday of the week .. so would each of each of you. Of course only with a recurve and on public land . Can’t say I’d pay a bunch of money for it and do it the way he did it.. but it wouldn’t get a pass
Congrats to him. He looks happy.
That said, it's super easy to shoot deer that cant see you because it's antlers blind it!
I wonder, if given 5-6 years, and living free range in a whitetail mecca state, what that deer would have grown into. Did he end up like that just from tons of supplemental feeding or whatever... would he have been half that size in the wild? 1/3? 1/4?
Question. A couple folks noted genetically modified. I'd be astonished if that was actually the case with deer. Just seems like an area where the effort would not have gone. Is that actually a thing with farm deer? Or are comments about this (other farm deer) being genetically modified just based on giving the deer food, supplements, meds etc to maximize antler development?
^^^. Genetically manipulated is probably the correct term. But maybe there are GMO deer on farms?
You know some ranch in Texas is already working on a bigger one. Damn shame to pervert one of God’s best creations.
^^^ Perversion of God's creatures. I roll with that one myself.
Gross. Took me a second to find the poor buck’s head…
148 after deductions.
If this floats your boat - whatever. Does nothing for me.
The world done ruined Christmas now we working on whitetail hunting.
That's just special,,,looks like a tumor. I'd be afraid to eat any of that meat and I wouldn't want my dog eating any of it either.
Greg Simon…that’s hilarious!!!
Does not impact my hunting plans in any way.
May make me reconsider my opposition to puberty blockers!
almost animal abuse IMO
the drugs they had to pump that deer full of :( .... to get that rack ... :(
I would not let someone take a picture of me with that thing and I damn sure wouldn’t eat the meat from it! And to think of what someone would pay to do that! Disgusting all of it.
Not my kind of thing. Not the farm. Not the fence. Not the deer/livestock. Not the rack.
I just don’t understand the draw.
If I'd found that shed, my first thought would be "mutant mushroom, likely of the psilocybe specie, growing near Three Mile Island. Lemme guess, non-typical? Do I win, do I win?
In the facebook of the Farm where he was killed, People keep asking: Why did you not let him reach his full potential and shed his velvet.
First of all, he wouldn't have shed off well. It would have been a mess
Second: look at the pictures where you can see his body. He seems very skinny with his ribs showing. I wonder if he might have been sick and they called in a rich client, er hunter to shoot him before he died?
Does anyone besides me wonder if even SCI will eventually get sick of these kind of mutants and stop accepting them into their registry??
SCI Is going to get sick of Nothing. They will eventually have chipmunks and voles in their book.
I have zero info on the deer in this post. I have no idea if it was sick, etc. and nobody else has facts of that also
All speculation at best. But it is fun to be critical at every turn, given the chance
This is no more hunting than than a poacher shooting from the truck window. I would consider this a cull buck in the wild, might as well have six legs and a trunk.
good question in SCI. until the checks start bouncing should continue to be fine with mutants on their checklist.
If I were the taxidermist, I'd charge an "arm and a leg" plus wear a HAZMAT suit. Never know...might have cooties or something. I expect he'll cash in and this pic will end up on a Nose Jammer label! I might develop Eye Jammer so I don't have to look at it!
That’s pathetic, and bordering on animal cruelty. Cruelty being all the steroids, testosterone and chemicals fed or injected to cause that rack. Part of the blame here is the over infatuation with “inches and score.” Guys that are debating whether a point is typical or non typical in order to enhance the score. Or guys watching a big buck at their feeder or food plot and debating whether to kill him at 160” or let him grow another year and see if he turns into something “special.” I have friends that when I tell them that I killed a buck or saw a buck, their first question is always “ what will he score, or will he make the book?” These issues are part of the reason there’s a 1000” buck.
They wouldn't do it if there wasn't a market for it. Horn porn runs deep and hunters are to blame. It's to the point that landscapes are changing, non-trophy species are cast aside, kids are leased out of hunting land, etc. It's a shame but it what we are doing.
