So, much of my merino wool base layers look like I got accosted by a load of 12 gauge 8s.

Any tips for what you guys do to keep the moths off of them? Mine go from my back to my washing machine to outside to dry for a day or two and then into a clothes locker. The little turds either send out a bat signal when I hang it outside and they come feast for a short period or they are somehow getting into my clothes locker.

Any tips on what yall do to keep your merino in tact?

I hang all my hunting clothes inside on my pull-up bar in front of a fan to dry.

I hang mine inside too. Never had a moth get one yet.

After washing and a inside line dry they go in a gallon or two gallon ziplock bag. The bigger stuff goes in a clear leaf bag and twist tied shut after squeezing the air out and then in a tote until next season.

I dry mine inside as well. No moth issues. Seems like outside drying is the problem

Mine go in a tub after washing and drying on low heat. I fill a couple of quart ziplocs full of cedar shavings, then poke a bunch of holes in the bags and put in the tub with my clothes.

Top this one guys.......grin

This is my Icebreaker undershirt I laid across a tote to dry in my wall tent on a solo elk hunt in Arizona.

Not moth's, I woke up in the middle of the night to a mouse circus inside my tent. It was crazy. Must have been 30 of them, they were flying around everywhere. I sprinkled the Decon around outside the tent- problem solved.

I keep some chunks of cedar along with Cedar floors in my closets at home and no problems

I wash and dry on low heat. Fold up and put them away in my regular clothes drawers in my dresser.

Mice chew merino bad. If I don’t store my clothes in a lock out type box mice chew mine. It sucks for sure.

I hang mine to dry in an screened in porch, then stored in totes.

I also hang dry mine in the house and then store in a tote in the basement.

We have a cat that is an absolute mouse killer so I know all my stuff is “safe” in the basement.

You might try cutting up cedar boards for each shelf or hang from closet bar.

I store mine in a cedar lined chest.

I hang dry mine on my wife’s special dryer rack. Then she fluffs them in the dryer once dry. I store all my Icebreaker undershirts in a regular drawer with cedar balls. I store my hunting merino in the basement with my hunting clothes. Just folded on a shelf.

No moth issues at all. My undershirts that I wear daily will eventually get small holes from wear and washing

I will hang mine on a line outside to dry but then they go in my cedar lined hunting closet. Have never had a problem.

Good to know about the moths and mice, I just got my first pieces of merino and I really like them. I'd hate for them to get chewed up.

23-Dec-24
That’s weird… I have never had that issue. At all.

But — especially for anything other than my absolute first layer, I’d be hitting my stuff with Permethrin…. and staring those base layers in a treated, cotton bag.

They say not to use it on underwear, but apparently it’s SOP to treat your socks. So it’s a Hard No for the boxers, maybe for long johns and OK for socks… For Me. I’m done having kids. LOL

I must be the odd man out, my hunting clothes go from my washer to my dryer and then get hung inside in a closet lol. No moths no mice to worry about :)
