Stopped by Southern States this morning to buy mineral mix ingredients and Triple 17 fertilizer for my plots this spring. Fertilizer was down to 24.99 per 50lb bag. That is a significant drop since last year. However, Di-Cal Phosphate was 37.99 per 50lb! Seems pretty damn expensive nowadays! Trace Minerals and Dried molasses still isnt too bad. I hope the deer appreciate the minerals! They seem to hit sites pretty good typically. Getting expensive to dump stuff on the ground these days. Owning hunting land is a lot like being a homeowner. Always some sort of expense to deal with . And doing it solo sucks too. Lots of money, diesel fuel and time out the window for a chance to see a deer. I know I will keep doing it as long as i can though.

I’d be scared to put a pencil to how much I spend on food plots, etc. every year. Worth it to me at twice the price!

Haha! Thats the truth! It is awesome to see the results. My ground is still coming around on the nutrients. I have enough pro-cal liquid lime coming in today to spray on the plots. I have not tried it before but i cant deal with spreading 3 tons of pellet lime with atv spreader again this year. I just dont want to spend that much time on it and dont have access to a tractor now. Thats one drawback to a skidsteer for farming.

Curious what everyone uses for the home made minerals. , looking to help the herd more than an attraction , I know we would need a little of both…also where does everyone source it from.

I use the following: 2- 50# sacks of trace mineral 1- 50# sack di-calcium phosphate 1- 50# sack white stock salt My deer use it best when placed on an old stump and sometimes it takes a while for them to really start to use it. I will add dried molasses this year if I can find it.

I do what shiloh does, but without the white salt. Dried molasses works great for attractant to the rest of it. Got several bags of 16% buck bourbon protein to feed starting this wkd too.

It's super cheap as long as you have no idea how much you are spending. :)
