Doing a moose hunt out of McGrath Alaska. Just curious what options you guys have used for the meat and horns getting them back to anchorage? And also what you did from Anchorage to home.

Anchorage to home will be cheapest on Alaska air cargo depending on if you live near one of their airports with a cargo hub. Feel free to PM me if you have questions on that process. As for McGrath to Anchorage I’d assume there’s an option through the same company you are using to get to McGrath to begin with.

I've hunted out of Mcgrath. it's an outpost. I only took a daypack of Sheep meat out of there. I've done the fish boxes with meat from other spots in Ak but its expensive.

Maybe the store or restaurant there will pre freeze it for you but it's not much of a place to layover- nothing there. It's really just a pit stop on the Iditarod trail.

Hopefully you AREN'T booked with Tom Shankster.....I think he is long gone...but not sure.

I did a sheep hunt in 2009 and the hotel let me put the sheep meat in their freezer overnight. But that was about 50 pounds so doesn't really compare to a moose. Off topic but funny story was the lady who checked us into the hotel was also our waitress at the restaurant that night. Then the next morning she was also the airline gate attendant.

About 12 years ago, Pen Air was the connection to anchorage and was the meat transport option. I hunted with friends who lived there, so freezing meat was taken care of, but not many options in McGrath so I would call ahead to the one hotel.

We did this hunt with Willow many years ago actually we’re supposed to fly from Pa to Ak on September 11. We ended up donating almost all of our moose meat to elders in town other than what we ate while there and small amount we could put in luggage. Just was cost prohibitive at the time to get to Anchorage to catch our flight home.

NAC (Northern Air Cargo) used to be an option for hauling freight out of MCG. Not sure if it still is.
