Greetings, anyone here hunt with Dave the last two years? I've got the itch to book a bear hunt. I have hunted that area with Lloyd Gate and they have big bears. Dave's camp has always gotten good reviews in the past. Any input is appreciated!
Solid operation. Hard worker. Not fancy but bear focused. Have hunted with him 9 times. Should be good info in past threads. He love guys to get the big ones and they are there.
He knows tons about bears. Baits like a madman. Huge area. Really puts forth the effort for his guys.
We've also hunted with Dave many times. I agree with Bou'bound's assessment.
Dave KNOWS bears especially BIG bears. The largest bear ever taken (bow or gun) in the Province was taken in Dave's camp, and now lives in my wife's trophy room. (Bear measured 21 9/16).
Dave and Austin (his son) will work hard to put you on a bear.
I don't think you'll regret it.
I think it would be a great idea for you to reach out to TREESTANDWOLF and get his opinion.

I have PTSD from the TSI period . If you go, good luck and have fun and please never mention New Brunswick ever again on this forum.
New Brunswick! New Brunswick!
Rob, you’re a trouble maker
That province is renamed East Maine.
I was around and hunting New Brunswick during the Great New Brunswick Bear Wars. I've hunted several times with Dave and he really does have an excellent bear camp. If I wasn't hunting Grizzly in Alaska this spring I'd most likely be heading up there again.
If you go, just don't mention "He who must not be named"!
What’s with all the code speak
What’s the TSI period?
What’s the bear wars?
Who is he who must not be named
I was actually hunting that area during the referred bear wars. Let's hope everyone has moved past ancient history.
I'm way behind the times....I'm still wonder what happen to TAZ?
Anyone remember the "over the hip shot"?
Lloyd Gates, look him up. He’s a great bear guy and fair priced. And had killed some real big bear he stays pretty humble about that.
Oh Boy. This could go sideways in a hurry.
I have hunted for Bears in “East Maine” for the last 10ish years (except during the virus pause). Besides the controversial ones, there are A LOT of good outfits up there. Most are Pretty reasonable too. We have a good crew that have a great time hunting together, so it’s a lot of fun.
Lots of bears up there, but like most places you have to pass on the small and medium size ones to kill a big one. Bears are hard to judge, and even experienced hunters sometimes get fooled. Many place don’t keep a scale in camp, So that way every bear is a “250 pounder plus”. One of these days I may go west and target a Color Phase, but for now, East Maine works.
The Spring season is a great time to hunt something during a slow time of year.
which are the controversial ones?
The only thing in the world that goes side’s ways is personal opinions… mature people stay straight, immature people still wear diapers and are still In need of being wiped because of immaturity, jealousy, and greed… Which eventually put a person out of order/business.
Ace that wasn’t directed towards you but to the response in who you were referring to…and even then not in a derogatory way but in a way of keeping a clean and helpful post.
I hear Elvis Presley is now in New Brunswick, guiding people, perhaps he oughta get looked up. I don’t know.lol. Joking and enjoy your day Gods given you!
I have hunted with Dave multiple times, each time was a great hunt. Lots of bears and some really BIG ones.
My son killed his first bear up in New Brunswick with Lloyd! Always a great time heading back up soon!
TMac- what happened to that deer lower back. It looked like something was feeding on it.
Lloyds website is down. Not sure if he is still in business. I killed my first bear at his place.
Yes, we recovered next day in the morning and somebody was chewing on him.
