It’s about that time of year again, so I guess I’ll do a little thread covering my different Bowhunting adventure this past 12 months. I’ve attached a link above if anyone wants to see last years thread as well.
I have lots of pics, I’ll kinda try to hit the high points with some text, but if you get tired of my droning on feel free to skim the pics or ignore it all. Hope some of you enjoy it, I certainly did.
—Jim
Started the year with Sheep show in Reno, should have better pics with friends, but this about all I got.
—Jim
So kinda my favorite thing to do the last couple years is chase pigs around home (and anywhere else). I kinda lucked into a large ranch that allows me to hunt offseason for pigs (no deer, turkey, etc) I got some feeders and cameras out and hit the ground running.
—Jim
My first boar off the place. It’s not like you see in TX on TV, more like trying to catch individual pigs slipping. I felt like I do real good to kill 8-10 the whole season.
—Jim
Pics of 6/1/24 TAC in PA?
I had completed my Archery Super 10 in 2023, so I went to Nashville for the GSCO events and to collect my plaque. Tom was really excited to meet me after all he had heard…
—Jim
The thing about shows is getting to catch up with friends. 3 straight up killers in this pic. Gene and Tom completed their Archery Super Slams, and Lee and I were Archery Super 10.
—Jim
Patience Charlie, we are only to Feb, I got some special ones for you.
—Jim
After several days of scouting I kinda figured out where I wanted to get set up for the pigs, so Ace and I worked hard getting feeders, cameras, and stands out.
—Jim
This what we looking for!
—Jim
I kinda got a bug to chase the “turkey slam” so I booked a hunt in FL. This was the camp the evening before season opened.
—Jim
A little Florida wildlife.
—Jim
First morning success. He came in totally silent midmorning. I was lucky to make a good shot and down in like 30 yards.
Leaves me only the Goulds for a Royal Slam.
—Jim
While I was in FL I figured I might as well do a little bow fishing. Went out one night, but the water was dingy, and the wind was up a bit. Kind limited our options and I can’t hit many fish, so it wasn’t real successful. Few little rays and a couple other little fish.
—Jim
The last few years I’ve been doing Aoudad in TX which is a lot of fun, so March rolls around and I’m back in PaloDuro Canyon.
—Jim
If you look through the grass you can see my target. After laying in the cactus for 2 hours waiting to make my move I proceeded to run up over the lip one the canyon and miss at 40 yards. Pretty disappointed in myself, but it happens.
—Jim
I usually get a few chances at pigs in this trip too, but pigs were a little slow this year.
Big group of rams laughing at me as I drive out of the ranch…
—Jim
I hit several 3d shoots this year, this was a local OK group who hosts some nice shoots. Might be related to why I missed that aoudad ram…
—Jim
Can’t miss them all.
—Jim
Finally started getting some action at my pig places, but time was tight, so stand time was lacking.
—Jim
I guess when you have a charter flight to a Red Stag ranch in Argentina you gotta leave the pigs for a bit…
—jim
Front fence at the lodge.
—jim
Is it legal to wear Vias, Verde and Valo at the same time? Seems like that may put you at an extreme advantage in the woods lol!
My mom wanted an adventure , so kinda last minute, she jumped in on the trip with me and my buddy Mike.
—Jim
Mom celebrated her birthday in Argentina too, they surprised her with birthday cake and everything. Her 33rd birthday again.
—Jim
Small game is always a great bonus to me. I like to hunt anything. This was a night hunt for a little raccoon rodent type thing called a Viscatcha (sp?). They actually eat good too.
—Jim
My Spanish pretty poor, so translation app helps.
The stag hunting was really tough, and quite honestly pretty disappointing. But as you can see the guide was pretty disappointed as well. We were just a few days late I think.
—Jim
Since we were in Argentina we decided to add a few days of wing shooting too, might as well!
The weather wasn’t great, but there are so many birds always some shooting. I shoot birds slightly better than I shoot fish, but not by a lot.
—Jim
I really wanted a parakeet so we finally tracked one down for me. But talk about some embarrassing shooting to get him!
That pretty much wraps up Argentina, the dove were fun, but the Bowhunting a bit disappointing.
—Jim
Back to Oklahoma for a couple days of TAC with the boys.
—Jim
My pigs weren’t really showing up, but luckily turkey season was right around the corner to take up the slack.
—jim
Took me 4-5 hunts, but killed a really nice bird to fill my OK tag
—Jim
I had a Goulds hunt in Mexico coming fast, but a local buddy called and invited me to do a little paddlefish snagging. Being I’m a consummate redneck I was glad to tag along! They were in there thick this evening!
—Jim
And a really nice one, we guessed probably in the 60lb range. I released both and called it a day.
—Jim
Then down to Sonora, Mexico. Right on the east side on the Chichauah border. Me and 3 buddies had 3 days to see if we could knock down a few birds.
—Jim
Turkey camp, kinda standard Mexican Ranch house. Way off grid.
—Jim
We were under the impression that they would have pop-up blinds ready for us, but come to find out this was the best of the blinds they had. Welcome to Mexico, make The best of it!
—jim
Fortunately the turkeys weren’t all that smart down there…
—Jim
My buddy Kyle’s bow got lost on the way down, so he killed his first bird with my bow on the second day.
But on the 3rd day I killed my second bird. Not a fine display of shooting, but him low and turned into a bit of a rodeo, but alls well that ends well.
—Jim
The rodeo bird was a real stud, triple beard Goulds!
—Jim
After filling my tags I was relegated to catching all the fish while the guys kept hunting.
—Jim
JTreeman's Link
Good group of guys. Those guys all might have Archery Super Slams, but I’m the only fella in the bunch with an Archery Royal Slam!!!!
I did a thread about my Royal Slam if anyone wants to look back at that I have put a link above.
—Jim
Gotta keep feeding the pigs even if they aren’t showing up to get shot.
—jim
Finally get a couple boars coming kinda consistent, then I proved to go out and shoot this big by right in the shoulder for no reason! I was soooooo disgusted with myself.
—Jim
Ace like spring/summer fishing almost as much as chasing arrows and pigs!
—Jim
My good friend is an outfitter in Northern British Columbia, he doesn’t really do any spring hunts, but invited me for a bear hunt and offered to have my best friends kid come with me. Not really a kid anymore, but will always be to me. It was his first big adventure type hunt. And of course to start it off right Air Canada lost all our luggage for a day and a half in the way up…
—Jim
Davis didn’t wast much time putting an arrow though his first bears heart! Luckily we each had 2 tags so plenty more hunting to come.
—Jim
Covered a lot of miles on quads and trucks. Bears were sporadic, but enough around.
—Jim
Did a little fishing, hiking, and exploring. I made a couple stalks on nice bears over the week, but couldn’t put it all together.
—Jim
On the last day we found this guy and made a good stalk and he made a great shot on a really nice north country bear.
—jim
Home a few days then up to PA for the TAC shoot there at 7 Springs Resort. Great group of Bowsite guys. Of course the White Mule Charlie, Dennis Razza and his son Reed, Adam Cramer, and Brad Edgington, and me bringing up the rear…
—Jim
Speaking of The White Mule…
—Jim
Adam and I had to finish out the last day strong by ourselves though.
—Jim
Summertime is full of good stuff to do, ace also lives bow fishing…
—Jim
He also likes pig hunting. I got a couple arrows in this beast, but couldn’t find him, so had to call in The big gun named Ace to track him down for me.
—Jim
If I could shoot I probably could have filled the boat this day, but instead I just have to endure Aces looks of disapproval after each miss…
—Jim
Next stop South Dakota TAC at Terry Peak. Another great group of guys up there. Including Brotsky, Midwest, OkieBowdad, Caribou77, and our friend Robert. They let me tag along as long as I carry their drinks and snacks…
—Jim
Weather can be all over the place in Terry Peak.
I think everyone is checking Bowsite…
—jim
Hell of a group of guys.
—Jim
Back at home got another pig, and lost one too.
—Jim
Brotsky invited Midwest and I to come up to WI to shoot a little 3d with him and some of his buddies, so why not! To Wisconsin I go…
—Jim
Another good group of guys.
—Jim
Too bad I had to take all their money…
And on Sunday we had a special guest come join us! Caribou77
—Jim
I think that is about 1/2 way through the year. I may take a break. But the pigs were starting to hit my feeders better, so I might not, that just gets me excited!
Pigs coming and then I kinda fell apart on the shooting. In this trail cam pic you can see what looks like a perfect 1/4 away shot, but could never find this one, missed another the same evening. Got a bit frustrated.
—Jim
Good times…Another great year and ‘25 started out with a “bang”!
My buddy CajunArcher called and wanted me to go on a short notice DIY pronghorn hunt in August. I’m not much for saying no, and some of those short notice hints can be great.
—Jim
Like I said, some of those short notice hunts can be great. Unfortunately this wasn’t one, pretty much a complete bust. But a good few days with a good buddy.
—Jim
While I was pronghorn hunting one of my landowners called and said they been seeing a bunch of pigs in the pasture, so I knew where I needed to be!
—Jim
Quick evening spot and stalk hunt paid off! 35 yard shot, 60 yard recovery
—Jim
For my first fall hunt I booked an early season Colorado mule deer hunt.
—Jim
The action was pretty much limited to the first 90 and last 90 minutes of the day. But saw some deer and some relatively decent bucks.
—jim
Tough to get on them in the open county .
—Jim
My buddy was able to connect on this buck. But I came up short with a miss on the last evening. No excuse, I just flat missed.
—jim
So I had a Roosevelt elk hunt directly after that mule deer hunt. No reason to go back to oklahoma just to fly to Oregon, so I rented the coolest car I could find to drive from Colorado to Oregon.
It’s the Cadillac of minivans…
—Jim
Spent a couple day chasing them around but finally got on the bull I wanted. I almost f’ed it up, but it all worked out in the end.
—Jim
Really nice archery Rosie, but comes up just a couple inches short of p&y. But I’m very pleased regardless.
—Jim
I’m not much for going home early, so spent the next couple days helping pack out another hunters bull and chased some grouse around.
—Jim
I got home and my good friend Kyle called and said pigs were thick on his place down in TX, so what could I do, I loaded up the truck and hauled ass down there!
—Jim
His blind/feeder set-up
—Jim
First group in winded me, but this guy slipped up right before dark.
—Jim
The feeders really only get action in the evenings, so the mornings we slow stalk the creeks and thickets. I got this nice sow after walking up in her in thick cane and calling her to like 5yards for the shot.
—Jim
I’m not much of a whitetail hunter, but oklahoma deer opens on Oct 1. I’ve got a few places, but don’t take it as serious as a lot of guys. Spent a few evenings in a stand though
—Jim
Had this guy down behind my house early season on the regular. I think it was 3rd sit and got him at 25 yards and put my arrow right in his shoulder. No penetration, no arrow, no blood, no deer. To say I was disappointed in myself would be an understatement.
I didn’t deer hunt much after that.
—Jim
So being that N/A mountain hunts are getting so outrageous as far as cost I’ve been looking at other options to get in some mountain time before I get too old and/or broke down. I found an Ibex hunt in Kyrgyzstan that was supposed to be fairly bowable, so I said “what the hell” and found my self landing in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan mid October and headed for the mountins!
—Jim
I’m not a big horse guy, but thank god for them at 14,000 feet!
—Jim
The hunting was pretty tough. Between the language barrier and the hunting style differences it was pretty frustrating.
—Jim
I think seeing a snow leopard is probably about the same odds as winning the lotto. I did not see a leopard, but we did cut a fresh track. I’m guessing not many people on earth can say that.
I may not have seen him, but I think there is a pretty fair chance he saw me…
—Jim
Not my photo, taken by another hunter in camp.
Not my photo, taken by another hunter in camp.
I had a pretty dang good opportunity on the 4th or 5th day. The Billy was in range, but I really have no idea how far he was somewhere between 35 and 60. Range finder wouldn’t work and could barely see thought the peep as the snow and fog and wind were just ripping.
I had a couple other marginal opportunities, but just couldn’t get it all together at the same time.
—Jim
Big country, and the bottom is like 10,500ft!!!
—Jim
My ride. Luckily he was smarter than me in the mountains.
—Jim
Look close and you can see ibex on the bottom “flat”
—Jim
There was a group of Italian hunters in camp for the second 1/2 of my hunt, we made friends and hung out in Bishkek for a couple days on the way home. Hunting brings the world together
—Jim
That gets me though October. I’m gonna take a little break, I’ll try to wrap up the last 3 months this evening.
—Jim
You sure your not leaving for you next adventure before this evening :)-
Great pics… congrats!! Text sent
Awesome!
Looking forward to the rest of the year Jim.
So when I was headed home from Kyrgyzstan my text group of killers was trying to set up a pig hunt at Kyle’s place in Texas. I obviously couldn’t just go back to work and miss that! So the next week finds me down in Texas again! First night I whacked some pigs out of a stand I’d never hunted before.
We walked and stalked the next morning and blew a couple out, no shots.
The next evening I got a bust stand, but the other guys got some on the ground!
—Jim
A real group of killers here, lots of you will know most of them I’d guess. If you wanna be a killer you should surround yourself with guys like these.
Some of the best days right there…
—Jim
I’ve been trying to call and kill a coyote with my bow for the last couple years. I’ve called in several, but just can’t get it done. November and December kinda slow in OK so I spend a few mornings and evenings here or there beating my head against the wall trying.
Finally I call in and kill this bob cat. He is about as ugly as the come, but he is a hoss! Came right to the call and killed him at 22 yards!
Still working on that coyote though…
—Jim
Ace and I spend some days checking out differnt places too, he just wants to go!
—Jim
I am a bit ate up with trying to call predators recently, and would love to kill a lynx. But of course the hunting budget is thin. So I call my good friend Ryan in BC again and pitch him my hare brained idea about calling a lynx. He certainly doesn’t offer lynx hunts nor does he have dogs, etc.
In an effort to humor me he offers to have me up for a week while he works around camp and hunts with me some. It’s not quite free, but it’s basically free. I pack my stuff and head up to Smithers on January 2nd for a week of freezing my butt off!
—Jim
He hooks me up tags for kinda anything we might see
—Jim
Fat kids from Oklahoma ain’t never had snow shoes before!
—jim
You can see me set up in the background.
—Jim
Ryan’s camp. Also note that I’m a horrible snowmobile driver/rider. Fat kids from Oklahoma don’t know snow…
—Jim
Nice to come in to a warm stove in the evenings!
We really couldn’t cut enough fresh lynx tracks to have as good a chance as I’d like. But we called in fox, martens, and fisher.
We cut a nice wolverine track and followed it best we could down to a lake, set up at the upper end of the the lake and called. No luck. Next day come back to try again and as we are walking in we see that there is wolverine tracks on top of our track out the day before!!!! Should have stayed longer…
—Jim
We didn’t get the lynx, but it was a fun week, and I bet we will try again in the future!
—Jim
From northern British Columbia I head home for 1 day then straight down to Sonora Mexico for a week of chasing coues deer in the desert.
—Jim
Nice little range to greet us at the ranch. Everyone shooting good. Time to hop in the blinds.
—Jim
A lot of this type of buck in the ranch.
—Jim
A lot of guys (including me) would find these type deer hard to pass…
—Jim
But this ranch is kinda a special place, and you can’t kill the big boys if you don’t let this type buck go.
—Jim
I finally got my chance on the 3rd day and I didn’t hesitate to take this guy. He hasn’t been officially measured but he is over 100” (gross) on my tape for reference.
—Jim
I didn’t put any arrows in the air in BC, but more than made up for it in MX.
—Jim
The owner asked if I wanted to shoot this buck as a cull. I said “well yeah, duh…”
—Jim
So I did the next day, first deer I saw that morning LOL!
Wasn’t as old as he looked in the trail cam pics, but probably never gonna be a trophy either.
—Jim
So with a couple deer down I switch my attention to the Foxpro. First call of the trip and this dude comes barreling in like a freight Train! I shot him dead at 20 yards standing over the caller!
Finally!!!!
Over the next couple days I call in a beautiful fox and a nice bobcat too, but couldn’t get a shot at either of them. Predators on the ground with a bow is just tough.
—Jim
How can you stomach living such a boring life Jim? You need to get out a bit more often.
Holy smokes! Keep it coming Jimmy, this is one epic recap!
I want Jim's job, whatever it may be.
Thanks for posting your 2024 story Jim.
Well I killed a Javelina in Mx too, but for some reason I can’t post the pic. I guess we all know what a dead javelin looks like. Really had a great week of hunting in Mexico.
Edit: it seems that Charlie has used his wizardry and posted a pic of the javelina down below.
—Jim
So I guess on to the last hunt of the season for me, Colorado Bison.
—Jim
It’s technically a ranch hunt, so it can’t qualify for p&y or b@c. But wasn’t your typical small pasture type ranch.
—Jim
Open plains and timbered hills. Mix of snow and open ground. The weather was basically perfect.
—Jim
This is awesome! Great year, as always, Jim!!
Big cow bison in the timber
—Jim
Third day I got my chance. After a short stalk on a bedded bull I made my first shot count. 25 yard shot, he on the ground 30 yards later.
—Jim
Big old bull with worn horns and a great hide.
—Jim
They got the skinning and gutting figured out here!
—Jim
That kinda wraps up my year, but I still have several cool (to me at least) pics. So I think I’ll throw in a mix of pics, no rhyme or reason, just random stuff along the way.
—Jim
Summer with Ace in the boat exploring a little bit
—Jim
Just a cool trail cam pic
—Jim
The city market in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
—Jim
Coyote hunting set-up
—Jim
Another pic of my huge Goulds turkey
—Jim
One of the perils of summertime hog hunting…
—Jim
Some days 5 arrows just aren’t enough…or in this case were exactly enough…
—Jim
Lynx hunting cabin. Also Just happens to be the same as our spring bear cabin!
—Jim
Me and The BPM in MX.
—Jim
A little treasure found while bear hunting
—Jim
The pronghorn landscape…
—Jim
Little side trip on the way though Dallas!
—Jim
Mountain horses in Kyrgyzstan
Asia made my 6th continent to Bowhunt. I’ll need to go back and shoot something there though!
—Jim
The Mexican desert is a rough place
—Jim
Couple more Goulds turkeys headed down the mountain
—Jim
The BPM and me with his Colorado bison. For the record mine was bigger… ;)
—Jim
And one more pic of Ace!
—Jim
That’s about it guys and gals, all I got for 2024. I’m super fortunate to be able to do a lot of the things I want. Lucky to spend time with some of the best guys around doing what we love.
I am super fortunate to have to have my GF of 15 years who holds things down at home when I’m gone, and puts up with my crap! And almost as importantly my best friend of 30+ years to help we with some work stuff when I’m off galavanting around. It can be stressful, but they help make it work.
I’ve got some stuff in the works for 2025, not sure if it will be more or less than 2024, but I Hope it’s as good either way.
—Jim
Always one of my favorite threads of the year. Congrats on a helluva year bud. I especially like it when I find my way into it as I get to relive the great times. Looking forward to making more memories in the years ahead.
PS - we need more Ace
Great recap and one hell of a year. Enjoyed tagging along, with the exception of the snake picture, could have done without that one lol.

Hell of a year, JT! Thanks for sharing it all here.
Fantastic recap, hard to imagine squeezing more fun out of a year, but good luck topping it in '25!
I used to think that Treeman gets to hunt with a lot of really accomplished bowhunters.
I'm now leaning more to, a lot of really accomplished bowhunters get to hunt with Teeman!
Congrats on yet another crazy busy and varied hunting year!
LIVIN’….well done, Jim. Congrats!
Congrats on a great year! You really are “famous like Frank!”
Awesome year! I really enjoy these tread's. Lots of inspiration here

JT , that comment about " working a fair amount"
That a whole other thread up for debate bud ??
What ranch did you do the bison hunt on?
What a year Treeman! Enjoyed the thread, thanks.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride I really enjoy it! Keep on doing what your doing because some day the old bones just what they used too!
Wow what a recap on a very eventful year. Thanks for sharing Jim!
Man that's incredible! I wonder how many travel agents you have on standby to look after that year. Even with the short descriptions I love that you still tossed in some humour: "But of course the hunting budget is thin". bahahahahaha
Tired just going through the review. Well done sir.
