Options: 1-Australia - Cape York or Northern territories. Historically high volume with good trophy options 2-Hungary - Awesome shaggy euro boars but usually limited numbers. 3-Save the travel $$ and try to find a good ranch/outfitter in Texas --- With the trend of helicopter hunting and poisoning, I have had a hard time finding great pig properties lately. A plus is I could harvest the meat on the desirable Sows and youngsters. 4.... Open to suggestions

Background: I have hunted pigs in Texas ~10 times, Santa Cruz Island and the California mountains multiple times, Bushpig and warthogs in Southern Africa 5 times. Javalina in AZ & TX. I would prefer a target rich environment vs limited chances or focus on just trophy boars. Would like to do stalking at least 30% of the time. I used to hunt Half Brothers and few other ranches near Pearsall TX that had use to have great numbers and had opportunites to stalk roads and creek bottoms.

Thanks for you help and appreciate any ideas from fellow pig aficionados!

( I put up another Thread on Cape York trying to confirm how the Pig Population is doing there)

There was a thread last year that might pique your interest. See “Wild Boars of Hungary”

I’m a big fan of pig hunting as well, kinda have the same issues as you.

Texas is rough these days for outfitters IMO too. In not interested in choppers or thermals and that is pretty much what they are all offering these days. Or the outfitters all seem super shady to me. Not to say you can’t have some good hunts there, but it seems like rolling the dice to me…

I’m working on a hunt in Bulgaria for this fall. Not Hungary, but not Hungary prices either. Not willing to recommend it yet, but will let you know how it goes.

Well heck, I’m already going to be in Budapest on the 9th with a few days to kill. Looks like $1,600 for 4 days and unlimited hogs with my bow. Just might be doable.

I have a friend in Valencia, Spain that has access to great hog hunting there, even near the beach. If you are interested send me a PM

We need a Pig Slam.......

Hogs are made for bowhunting.....stalking in and shooting them at 12 steps is awesome.

I've hunted them in Australia. Great Stalking opportunities. They are truly wild. I was charged by one....and caught a piglet there after the guide told me, "No way".

Australia would be a amazing adventure, a quality outfit in Texas with pigs and javelina would probably be the best for a "target rich" hunt, or Africa for the best of both worlds. A good outfit in Africa could have you on warthogs all day and bush pigs all night just gotta figure out when to sleep. Hungary/European boar hunt would be cool but don't think I could focus on pigs with red, roe, and fallow deer running around.

Definitely Hungary, or Croatia, Slovenia is absolutely gorgeous and world class trout fishing.

Bowhunting is not allowed in Croatia. Was looking at a brown bear hunt there last year when we went over.

I would love to kill a real good looking true European looking boar. It wouldn't matter to me gun/bow as I just think they are cool looking.

I hate the way they price hunts in Europe though.

Seen some You Tube vids of French hunters in the mountains of Ubexestan or one of those stan countries, oh my a more true Russian boar hunt you wouldn’t find, magnificent looking beasts in really tough terrain. A true trophy that you will definitely earn.

Turkey has some amazing boars too.

What are you looking for in a trophy boar? Is it the weight/size of the animal, the tusks or the age? As that would be a major factor in my decision. If you’re looking for a target rich environment and you’re good at spot and stalk pig hunting Cape York would be my suggestion. They have great trophy quality in regards to tusks but if you want to kill big bodied pigs this is not the place. Get in touch with Mick baker of trophy bowhunts Australia he’s been bowhunting the Cape for 30+ years and killed more hogs with a bow than anyone I know

I really appreciate everyone’s feedback!!! I tried to book Australia for this fall, but I missed my window and they were booked up I love all the discussion about Central and eastern Europe options. I agree I hate the trophy class pricing and some of those countries. It would be fun to shoot one monster but I would like to go on a hunt where I can shoot multiple if not many pigs. The conflict I typically have with Australia is there prime hunting season in the Cape York area is prime September October hunting season here in the states but this year I had a good window the first few weeks of October.
