How do you pay in Canadian funds?

I've bear hunted Canada plenty of times and always pay the outfitter in USD. Now I am looking at a moose hunt up there with a different outfitter and the price is quoted in CAD. Assuming they don't take credit cards, what have you found to be the best way to pay?
I’d assume Wire Transfer. Pretty much how I pay for any international hunt…
Or literally cash in hand?

Mail a check for the deposit, pay the balance in cash or check.
I prefer wire transfers over paper checks given the state of both countries postal service currently.
They prefer you pay in USD. For example 5000 CAD paid in 5000 USD. Works out great! :)
Yeah, I should be clear that the difference would be almost $2,000 with the conversion rate. So just making sure that I would get that nice little conversion bonus. :) I like the wire transfer as I am assuming you would get a competitive conversion.
Wire transfer is definitely the easiest. Set up a Schwab account and you can send wires for free. A lot of banks will charge, but you can do them right on the app thru Schwab. Might be some others out there, but that's the easiest for me.
Canadian Banks charge a 4 percent fee when a business deposits USD into an account along with 2 cents less on the USD. Could be why he wants CAD..
Can you do Zelle or Venmo from US to CA and do they do the conversion?
Venmo does not support international transactions.
If comrade Castro stays your Prime Minister. Rubles
If you’re flying you can exchange at the airport, If you’re driving you can exchange at most any border crossing
Hey Skull, If I arrive at the border with $5000 cash, how will the border authorities react to that? I know in the US they will likely seize it as drug money.
Why would they seize it as drug money!?!?? Declare over $10k and might get some questions. Anything less should be no questions asked, have a nice day sir. No need to declare anything under $10k and none of their business. Probably shouldn’t just make up stuff like “likely to seize” that is clearly not true.
Almost everywhere I fly/travel I have over $5k cash in my pocket and nobody has ever asked or known.

You going to PnY, Jim?…..Asking for a friend.
Shiras42, most outfitters in Canada quote their hunt costs in USD. Not sure why your guy is behind the times. That said a cost in CAD is strongly in your favor. Today's exchange rate is about 30% in favor of the USD. If they are changing you $10K in CAD, that equals $7K in USD. Keep in mind that exchange rate changes like the wind. That is why most quote hunt costs by USD. I would contact your outfitter well ahead of time and confirm. Tell him you will send a deposit of $X amount in USD and pay final amount upon arrival in USD, based on that days exchange rate. It will take some last minute mathematics but that is way easier IMO. I have never found a Canadian outfitter who didn't want US cash.
It’s not necessarily to the hunters advantage to pay in Canadian. We need to know the US value of that hunt and the Canadian dollars being asked for to make any assumption.
There’s no way the outfitter is charging, for example, 10,000 Canadian for a hunt that’s worth 10,000 US. If he was, it would be a steal and you’d only be paying 6500 or $7000 for the adventure. steals don't exist!!!
What the CAD charging outfitter is doing though is charging 13,000 or 14,000 Canadian for a Hunt that’s worth 10,000 US.
You can bet the outfitter knows what he’s doing and has it figured out
he’s not giving anything away and certainly not giving away 30 or 35% of the potential revenue due to sloppy pricing on a conversion.
Jim won’t be there Troy… he’s too busy making mom memes!! lol As for the original post maybe the outfitter takes Venmo or some pay app?
Just a follow up here. Decided against that outfitter. He was at $7k CAD which was about $5k USD. Found one I really like for a similar price. Fly in hunt, outfitted but not guided.
Thanks for the input!
A fly in Canadian moose hunt For Five grand. That’s wild.
So it has been a while since I have been to Canada. My Credit Card company says I can use my credit card there. I was worried they would close the card thinking it had been stolen since I never charge stuff in another country on my credit card. Does the CC company do the exchange? I was just wondering. Thanks for the info.
Yes but may be a fee in each transaction with some cards

jimmyjumpup you need to call them and advise you are travelling to Canada
Use a bank ATM at the hotel or airport. The exchange rate is as good as it gets.
I used my CC recently in Alberta. No issues or extra charges. My $105.00 hotel room was a $75.00 charge on my card. Easy and seamless.
I also had a good sized amount of cash to pay for my hunt. No issues at all. Had my hunt contract in hand. Just declare it or it can be confiscated.
Very easy to cross the border with over $10,000 CAD in cash. A Fintrac form is completed at the border and you're on your way. Happens a lot and several hunters bring cash (both USD and CAD) to pay for hunts.
I always log on to my CC site before I go and there is a place I can inform them of my travel location and dates so there is not an issue with it getting shut off.
I just send cases of maple syrup..
