Been watching the turkeys in my area but none are strutting yet, they all look like these from yesterday. Anyone got birds strutting. Season starts in less than two weeks for me in NE.

The NC season is early April. I've been told that most state's season is intentionally set so that the vast majority of breeding is done the previous month. That way when the Tom's get killed the next year's "crop" is already guaranteed. But I always thought it odd that if that were the case, we don't see more strutting, gobbling, fighting, harassment, etc. in March? I haven't heard nor seen any indication and hen flocks are still gobbler-less. I suppose it could be like "last call at the bar"... if the majority of hens have been bred and more interested in nesting by the season opener, maybe all the season commotion is just desperate toms competing for "leftover 10's"! It's probably more like chickens I've watched coming off the roost. Seems like the same poor gals get picked on all the time!

Saw several longbeards strutting out in a field, while I was driving down the interstate the other morning. A friend also had several on his cellular trailcam a few days ago. Heard a few sounding off across the river from my house, as well.

Apparently, lumber is the new gold. My buddy just told me that last year they apparently clear cut a couple hundred acres of timber that was our "turkey Mecca" up at the "happy hunting grounds". I fondly remember one morning about 35 years ago when I heard a personal best gobbling record. Right about first light a gobbler hammered off the roost about 75 yds down the ridge from me. Immediately he was answered by 6 more gobblers every few seconds about equidistant down the ridge on the other side of the first. All the boys repeated this symphony in series twice more when somebody blasted one a couple hundred years away. Never heard another peep out of any of them the rest of the morning! "All good things must come to an end"!

Yes, definitely here as the snow is melting. Supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow.. Per a separate post I called in two toms right to my truck earlier this week. They responded very aggressively.

Little bit of strutting here in Oklahoma but nothing serious and still not much gobbling. They have split out of their winter flocks should get good any day. Glassed 2 longbeards on Tues and a group of 4 Jake's Wed but overall numbers seem down which is the usual story for turkey these days.
