Where is all the early season success? Lets see them.
Not the best picture, but good times. My best from MY property. (I've had bigger from elsewhere, but something special about your own place).
Way to go Chris and jorge! Here's a couple!
Sorry, not the cleanest harvest pic!
Nice job Mike!!!
Way to go everyone!
At least this year I am seeing deer while I'm in my stand!! Had a doe bust me at 6 yards last night. Just no shot opportunity. Needed her to go right around a small brush pile, not left! :o) Having fun this year!
Congrats to all.
Mike D, you are a stone cold whitetail assassin !!!!!
;^)
Did get a cat on the first SUNDAY
Friday morning, 7:20. Sure takes the pressure off for the rest of the year!!
Friday morning, 7:20. Sure takes the pressure off for the rest of the year!!
Small one I shot Saturday evening as the wind blew me all over the place! Sorry the picture isn't better.
Yea, and cool kitty, BK!!
good job guys! keep em coming!
Great morning! Shot a nice doe (my third) at first light and then a great 12 pt came in to a grunt call at 0900. He was all rutted up raking trees & scraping.
Nice, got my first VA deer this morning. Smoked him at 16 yards, dbl lunged him and he piled up 40 yards away. Awesome morning out.
Mike... That picture of the 2 arrows and your stand is BAD ASS!!!!!! I am trying to get back in the swing of things and get back in the trees. MAybe see you out there this season..
I agree, very cool photo!
Thanks, guys. Been a good start to the season. I've got quite a bit of time off starting this Friday, so I hope to do some whacking and stacking!
put my 7th on the ground Saturday night. a 6 pointer to dark to get a picture. hitting hard this week. all others have been does.
Crocket, thats a great 8! Congrats
Nice buck and Nice shot!!
Very nice, Chris! Congrats! Had bucks fighting and pushing does this evening. Bucks were young, so I whacked another doe at 4 yards.
Nice, I have a hog hunt booked for SC, can't wait to go!! Nice buck!
Nice kills, SC.
Last night at work ( Stafford County ), around 8 PM, there was an 8 pt buck inside the inner perimeter fence, trying to get out to fight another HUGE 8 point.
The HUGE one really had a big body, but could have just blown himself up posturing.
But they really wanted to get at each other. They were nose to nose on the chain link fence, and even butting the fence.
Rare to see for sure.
Congrats fellas, keep up the good work!
PM'ed ya back, SC.
Red delineates the fencing.
Left orange X is where the Bucks were trying to get at each other last night.
Right orange X is where the Bucks hang out in the summer.
Yellow circle is the Tower.
I can't remember why I drew the green half circle. Early onset Alzheimers, maybe?
HAHA I live about a 1/16th of an inch off the top of that photo. :o)
Had this old guy cruising at 50 yards. One grunt stopped him, second brought him straight to my tree. A trail cam caught him coming in. Shot was 5 yards!
That deer is huge, Mike.
Congrats.
That's an old deer! Big too! Congrats!
very cool, congrats. I sat in the stand today from 0605 until 1730. At 0900 had a button buck at 16 yards for about 25 minutes and then a doe ran in and spooked him and she took off as well. Never gave me a shot as I would have taken her. That was it for the day. Nice day out though.
oooohhhhh my! :-) great buck MikeD
Good Lord Mike! What a stud, congrats!!
This 8 pt chased a doe right passed my stand @ 0830 today. The rut is on in Great Falls!
Can't let 'em all walk :)
Thanks, guys! Way to go, Brwndg! Nice buck!
Great deer brwnbg and congrats Mike D Liked the live photo on his way into your perch
S.C., I think I got his girlfriend this morning.
Nice buck, S.C.! Tony, that's awesome! Congrats to you both!
Anyone still getting out? Think I'm going to sit a few times over the next 4 days.
Saw a nice buck yesterday at 25 yards, but I was knee deep in a stream making an otter set. Been running a trapline so I haven't been hunting near as much.
Went out Saturday with a Shotgun and Muzzleloader, of the intention to put two Does down for Hunters for the Hungry, and didn't even see a deer.

If it don't happen tomorrow, I know who to blame - ME !
VADGIF Calendar says it's a Red Fish Day tomorrow.
;^)
Congrats Snyper31, super nice bucks!
Buck #3 down @ 5:05 pm. Came in behind me at last light.
For those that like Virginia buck photos and are on Facebook, check out "Hunt Virginia" and "Arrington's Cooler." We've got some pretty big deer.
He came in at 8am Saturday (12/13/14) morning, I made the shot off the back of the stand, 30 yard shot, the shot was a little further back than I'd like it to be, so I gave him 4 hours then took up the blood trail and found him expired about 75 yards away in the area I last saw him.
my 3rd and last buck of the year. 10pt xbow prince william county 10 pt 20" my best year ever for horns and i am NOT a horn hunter.

Posted in Rut thread about some buck activity but didn't talk about the 4 does that came by just as I was getting ready to climb down at 1000. Two yearlings followed by two big old Nanny does. Wanted to take the jumbo doe but she was at 35 yds. This doe was nearly as big. Made the easy 15 yd shot thru the heart. 40 yds to recovery. Good eating doe :)
Sorry for the double post and upside down pic. Don't know how to delete post
Sorry Snyper, thought I responded...great bucks! Congrats big-time! BD, you've had a great season, too! Awesome!! Hey 4 point, nice buck!
Called this one in with grunt tube/ estrus can. 2.5 year old with subpar rack gave me a great show and a cool hunt. Donated to H4H.
This is the result of the 8 point I launched an arrow at Friday Night, 26 December, with about 15 minutes of legal shooting light left.
Do ya recon I can get any good eating off of that shot ?
;^)
Old eyes on my part, how did I not see that Sweet Gum limb?
Congrats on the deer kills, guys. Nice Deer.
At least you hit it dead center!!
Tonyo, that sugar maple is tough, but sweet! lol
Fuzzy,
Do ya have a recipe for that ?
;^)
good pentatration, what broad head
That was a 100 gr Hell Razor off my 60 lb Hoyt Powerhawk Compound, draw is 29 inches. Beamon ICS Hunter 400 Carbon Arrow ~10 gr per inch, arrow is 32 inches nock to insert.
Last time I crono'ed the bow it was at 275 feet per second with that arrow and head. A tad slow for todays compounds, but quieter than a lot out there.
I thought the sapling limb was a Sweet Gum, but with no leaves, I will trust Fuzzy that it was a Sugar Maple
( didn't know Sugar Maples roots could survive in a swamp, Green Poplar, maybe, Fuzzy? )
( hard for me to judge sapling species via bark without leaves, except maybe for the bark of Long Leaf Pines, Cedars, River Birch, and Hollys :^)
4pt, that's a great buck! He would not make it past my stand. That's pretty much standard for a 3 1/2 yo buck where I hunt - Great Falls (got a lot of those racks)
a friend got this one on new years eve in prince william county xbow
Wow! What a monster! Incredible G-3's! Congrats to him!
Here in VA? I'm headed to South Carolina for some hog hunting in 2 weeks. Congrats on the hog!
Glad you explained that photo, S.C.
There for a minute, I thought you were dating my ex wife.
Congrats on the hunt and hog kill.
oh yeah Tony, Sugar Maples love water, in ther mountain valleys a lot of the hydric soil areas (water table at or just below the surface) are near-pure stands of sugar maple, with maybe a few sycamore and boxelder mixed in ....I am not absolutely sure your sapling is sugar maple, it could easily be any of several species of maple, in fact it looks more like box elder (a member of the maple family, that loves riverine and "sandy-marsh" areas) after a closer scan...

Do y'all have any concerns about brucellosis in pigs? I thought I read that up to 80% of SC pigs have the disease. I can't find where I read that. Here's a link that SC has on feral pig hunting and brucellosis.
Bandi, I have never sweated brucellosis in wild pigs myself, wear gloves when dressing and cook thoroughly, and practice cross-contamination control in the kitchen, same as with commercial poultry
