Just curious as to who uses what methods around here. Feel free to share. I've been looking at tips. As a broke student/part-timer, I can't really afford a climber right now. As such, I'm just curious about what you all are up to...

I'm going to assume your talking about deer. I do about 95% out of a treestand. I use a fixed position stand with sticks and 5% out of a ground blind. I concentrate on funnels for deer. Any natural or manmade feature that forces deer into a smaller area, just increases your odds. That and never hunt a stand when the wind is wrong and you will be well on your way to putting your tag on your fist deer.

I used ground blinds such as burlap and a stool. Now have cheap commercial ground blind. Cleared shooting lanes are very important. I have also sat below creek banks. This keeps your scent and sounds away from deer but, again, cleared shooting lanes are very important.

I use to stand hunt a bunch. I am too big, old, and brittle now to be climbing trees much. I find a spot and sit

90% ground blind here, brushed in very well to conceal it and the other 10% is usually out of a ladder stand. I know what Fuzzy means when he says too big, old and brittle.... I'm that way myself. I have had complete success out of the blind the last 6 years I have hunted... Got to have a tall one with good ceiling height on it since I'm 6'4 though. I find it tough sometimes to draw trying to stand in it so I usually always have my stool to sit on.

Funny Fuzzy should mention age. I gave away all my hang on stands and ladder sticks last year.
Old people really want to live !

At 52 and feeling older every day I know what you mean, but I hope I never feel too old to get up in a stand, love being up there.

Appreciate all of the input, guys. Anyone know a good place where I can find a used climber? Nothing on Craig's List or ebay (although I don't know if I'd trust ebay with a product that could kill me).

Watch for a Summit Open Shot on Craigslist, great stand. I had one for sale but ended up giving it to my oldest son this May while out in Idaho on a bear hunt.

Oh come on guys. Enough of the whining already. I just passed 75 this month, and I've only made 2 concessions to old age. One is that I've had to go to the dark side - crossbow; due to 4 rotator cuff operations. The second is that I don't shoot at dusk since I don't want to track, drag and gut in the dark anymore. Reference the original post thread Dr, keep looking at Craigslist. Climbers come on at a regular basis around $50, negotiable. Granted they're the heavy, clunky type that drop a pin in the rails from the top, BUT they're safe and effective. As for a product that can kill you, you're responsible to do due diligence. Get the owner's manual on-line, practice on a perfect tree AT LEAST 10 times during daylight before you climb in the woods in the dark. (End rant here!)

Shufigo, good on you. My results vary, and a man's gotta know his limitations. Hunt safe my friend :)

I'm 61 with a combo of health problems. Still use the Greene's Tree Saddle for much of my tree stand hunting. It can't be beat.

I used to hunt exclusively from a treestand, that was until last season. Decided to change it up and try spotting/stalking. Had one of my best seasons yet in terms of encounters. Cannot wait for the 3rd to get here!

I use what best fits the situation. I have many stands hung, will use my climber if I don't have a stand there, some times just have to hunt off the ground when there aren't any good trees around. I don't use prefab blinds, just try to find a spot where i can blend into the surroundings.
