MDHA votes down crossbow use
Minnesota

Looks like the MDHA voted down the use of crossbows during archery season among it's members. That kind of surprised me. Personally, I'm glad. Just my opinion. I like how MN has its regs now for crossbow use for disabled with a permit and those over 60.
It was very close vote.
Anyone else see the Benjamin air gun shooting full length arrows that was featured in "Bowhunting" magazine?
Basically multi shot air-guns with a arrows stuffed in the barrel. We don't need this type of equipment in a hand draw, hand held and release archery season.

This is a positive, what is happening over in Wi. with the x-bow is not good on public lands ,lived there for 21 yrs. It brought in a gun hunt mentality of increase stalking/ drives, the Wi DNR haven't broken the kill status of bucks with the x-bow but just reading the stats one can see what is happening. Mn. has a short bow season from Wi. & Ia. due to the gun season and the added pressure on public is not needed in bow season. I'm hitting 64 yrs old very quick and been through numbers of shoulder surgeries and late last yr I bought my first compound and it only took several days before I could group a 2" dia @ 30-35yrds and imo their is no reason for the x-bow in the regular bow season, except with a arm missing. I still shoot and hunt with the recurve as I always had, but just maybe the compound will come out. Back in the mid 80s I overheard several young gents at the archery club that stated that with the compound that one cannot kill a deer now there is no excuse, true. Mn. is the last bastion of so-called quality bowhunting and I can witness that this state does not want to go down the road of Wi. And Mi., just out the x-bow in with the ML season and be done with it. Enjoy your hunt.
If someone wants to bow hunt they should get a bow not a cross bow. I bought a raffle ticket from the MDHA this weekend, just because they voted it down.
There are modified bows out there, held by foot, one arm, etc. for folks who lose an arm, have shoulder issues. Crossbow isn't absolutely necessary there either.
I still won't rejoin MDHA or the NRA because they still don't get the fundamental issue with crossbows in the archery season.
im from ohio and we fought the x-gun tooth and nail to keep it out of archery season, but money talks and the odnr embraced them.they are having a big impact on the bow season here.some archery clubs let them shoot in round robins and other shoots, dan
It is all about the money like Box Call said. Shops in WI have lots of xbows and just a few compounds in their shops. It will be the same thing when the air powered 'bows' get legalized.
Look at the stats in WI, half of the 'archery' kill was with xbows. A lot of xbows had to be sold in a short time for that to happen. If MN decides to go xbow be sure they make it a trial like WI did and separate licenses so statistics like WI has can be kept. WI is considering going to a shorter season for those with the xbow license.
The only excuse for a x-bow in bow hunting is a bad excuse, unless one is missing an arm, todays compounds eliminates all others factors for a x-bow. I'm right and they are wrong, discussion closed.
Prepare yourself Minnesota - It's coming...maybe not next year or the year after...but it wont be long.
Enjoy while you can guys! Just saying!
