Muzzleloader Opportunities

Just looking at some opportunities to taking a nice mule deer with a muzzlloader late season. Im from SD so our muzzleloader season is very limited to a lottory and im looking for some insight on places to go. I have it narrowed down to the northwest past of the state, my question is there plenty of deer around, good sized bucks, and what is the hunting pressure like late season. I will come down sometime in december, hunt a couple days during the week, and mainly be public ground. I dont mind hiking in a lot of miles but would like the effort to have a good end result in hopes of locating some deer. Any imput would be apperciated. Thanks
