Scrapes and rubs everywhere. Big deer on their feet mid day and lots of chasing. Just kidding by the way. I just figured I would start the thread because we all know it's coming.
Scrapes are starting to pop up here on Post.
sit0 I got you! The early rut is coming.
Got me too! Rolled my eyes and clicked on it!-(
Anyone who inputs their early rut predictions on this thread and is half way serious should be banned immediately!
You all missed the september lull?
I am sitting here like the rut is over and I missed it. The friends in the field have been telling me how intense it has been since the last full moon and with the weather turning. I missed it the sounds, the smell, the fights, as I had to be a work for all the new hires and their training. Maybe next year I will catch it again.
Predictions -
The rut will come and go for the mule deer and whitetail bucks.
It will never end for my young friend, Jake.
I saw a mountain lion working a scrape the other day.

With all the rain, wet and muddy roads, it seems like the rut has been on every county road since May.
If the rain keeps up, 2016 will be the best rut year in decades.
I hear the deer are protesting the candidates in the upcoming election by refusing to rut this year!!
Shawn or Deerman, could you tell us the exact dates for this years rut please?
Just messin' with you Shawn...don't hate!
There are many legislators in the state house in Topeka that think the rut is a small ditch. They Will rut about the same time, good luck.
I think the rut Is over, so you all should stay home during November and let me hunt your spots. I like hunting the post rut! Shawn
Drove 65 miles of 81, 24, & 15 hwy,..plus 5miles of county roads this morning. Massive numbers of roadkills, blood stained asphalt smears to numerous to count, even more on the same route home. Obviously the chasing, seeking, running, jogging, walking, looking, and travelling phase is ON!
Kdwpt & Usfws are working together with the introduction of Coy-wolves into Ks, . Kansas is experiencing an all time high Whitetail population trend. Most 2yr old Does are now giving birth twice a year, with a spring rut as well as a fall rut.
With 2 ruts, the kdwpt is considering implementing a 13month per yr season.
Spotlight surveys confirm record numbers of AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, IA, ID, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MT, MS, MN, MO, NV, NJ, NY, ND, NC, NH, NM, OH, OR, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WY, WI, and WV license plates. As well as PR, AS, VI, DC, and Guam..
Saw an adult Coywolf with a Tom turkey in his mouth going across a wheat field.
Tarantula rut was in full swing two weeks ago in Western KS...so you know what that means
If we have more than 11 trick-or-treaters at camp Ks 10/31, the peak will be in 8 days....give or take 6 hours.
Who needs to worry about the rut when you have a nice big pile of corn to hunt?
Colorado Clown- You just reminded me why I don't post much on here! Class act you are !
KDWPT dealt with this recently, pre-rut appears to be on anyhow
Yup, they've introduced coy-dogs to eat the turkeys so the quail population will come back..see, it's working!
Rut will be early this year....record low corn prices!
Who needs corn, when you can shoot them with a rifle, or muzzleloader, or...? :-)
Thorton aren't you heading north for deer, too? Your wife doing that trip, too? Nobody can accuse you two of being lazy.
What ate that Bucks left ear off? What eats half an ear off when there is the whole rest of the deer laying there!
probably got ripped off in fight. but what do i know, im from louisiana.
Looks to me like a saws-all was being used to cut the heads off. Shawn
you sir, are mighty observant ;)
I would sooner think that blood line is from as 9mm hole behind the ear.
Zombies, no doubt. Punishing those deer for ever eating corn, even if it was in a field.
Me, I think saws-alls are too easy. I'm a hacksaw man when I go head-lopping! It all went to hell when electricity came to our farm in '95...lazy people, geez.
My comment stems from the post that says KDWPT was busy with these deer. Meaning I believe they were sawing the heads off then decided to take a pic. before they were done. Shawn
He knows, that, Kyle...he was just playing along. :-)
Yes she is going too. I hope she shoots a big one! She also drew a coveted mule deer tag for Colorado in a unit that only gave out 10 NR tags this year.
Starting to see some post rut activity in SEK.
Keep me updated, Justin, er, Jeremy, er, Jasmine...whoever. Hope she gets one larger than you ever will. You probably hope the same. :-)
I know writer was joking but other folks I am never too sure. This full moon sucks for hunting unless you can sit mid-day. I went in yesterday at 3:15 and had 3 bucks bedded in an open field. They did not get up and move til it got dark! Shawn
extended forecast is warm weather for 12-14 days Nov 4-12th I'm going out, there will be a cold snap at some point, hope its at that time.
post rut activity already in SEK?
Stealthycat this is Kansas, any forecast past a couple days is worthless!
Ah, Kansas where we get heat, drought, cold, floods, hail, ice and snow...and then we go to lunch. :-)
I have been watching the weather, man you guys have it too warm out there. Even here in the north east it is gonna be 82 on Tuesday. It was 28 this morning and the deer are not moving with the damn full moon. Shawn
Actually I have been seeing deer move about 30 minutes before sun set. I have never felt the full moon ever really affected deer movement. Mid October is never very good and it is not because of the moon. Mature bucks are almost always nocturnal regardless of the moon.
I found a fresh shed yesterday!
In my travels to Hutchinson and Wichita for work, I am starting to see some deer kills. 3 does in the last week and 1 young buck tonight.
Thorton's method is about as accurate as any.
Now, when he starts seeing button bucks wandering in little groups, with no fawns...it's time.
"Stealthycat this is Kansas, any forecast past a couple days is worthless!"
True to some degree ... big cold fronts the weathermen don't miss though, the ones that se's a 70 degree high one day, 40 degree high the next and multiple days of freezing,
My predictions...
The rut will happen around the same time it does each and every year.
The weather will be hot, cold, warm, cool, windy, calm, raining, snowing, sleeting, hailing or all of the above within a few hours, after all... it is Kansas. :-)
Night time scrape hunting is on, like donkey kong!
Btw, this pic shows a few more points, better, i believe he is a 14pointer..lol hes a 6x6 with an inline point on each side..
I can also see some base stickers on the buck above, this is his sparring partner.
Of course I thought I missed my favorite part of the rut but they were screaming their heads off till it was 7:30. Light enough to see them shoot them and dark when done packing them. Errr sorry still in Elk mode.
Had a decent buck chase a doe across the road in front of me on the way to work last evening
