Preference Point Question

I am interested in beginning collecting preference points in Wyoming. Came out turkey hunting this past Spring and fell in love with the state. Is it necessary to buy a license and draw for an area unsuccessfully to be awarded a preference point or can I just buy the points? I am not planning to hunt in 2017. I would like to collect 3 points or so and come antelope hunt hunting. The guide we turkey hunted with out there said we would probably need three points to draw for sure. Any help would be appreciate. This tag system is just so foreign being from the southeast.

Nope, just buy points when the "point only" period opens after the antelope draw closes.

The dates for buying a PP are 1 Jul-31 Oct.

There are places you can draw an Antelope tag with no points especially if you are willing to hire a guide or pay a trespass fee.
