Bucks Dropping Antlers

The bucks are dropping their antlers. I saw this guy not too far from my place on public land on January 8th.
Any way of telling by the pedicle how big of a rack he may have been caring?
He was close enough I asked him that but didn't get a reply as he slowly walked away...

LOL! Looks like a yearling (1.5) to me. Small pedicles.

When you see a freshly dropped mature buck it will be obvious. This guy is a yearling. Attached link shows a nice, although not huge, mature buck. Pedicle is noticeably larger. Older bucks with more mass will have larger pedicles.

Two here this week. Appear to be just starting to drop in this area. Nothing of any size....Forky and small eight. Not a lot of deer around here as it is.
