Does anyone know exactly how a buck gets those scrapes on the top of their backs, usually only seen in the late fall archery season or gun season? Is it due to "sparring"?

Yes. They are caused by stickbow shooters. :-)

I think they are digging at ticks with their mouths, that's as far as they can reach.

If you watch any videos, watch them going under barbed wire fences too, also the rub those spots on their backs with their racks.

No, I'm saying you shouldn't be wearing buck in heat scent while hunting:)

Barbed wire. Another reason fawns, or deer from unfenced areas are preferred prey if you're actually gonna use the thing. Scars in the skin lead to scars in leather, rawhide, etc.
