BB meet the State Pol on the way out,..

So our hunting troop is exiting the woods around 5 PM Saturday night,.. Hunterma,.. JP and myself,.. Nothing exciting that day of hunting but I did learn a valuable lesson though that I should share with you all. We hit Dunkin Donuts for Bfast and I had a Monster energy drink ,. between that and the coffee earlier ,. well I had a really hard time finding my Zen/calm peace while hunting,.. I was moving here and there,. and fidgeting like an idiot, making noise,.. won't do that again!

So back to our hike out,.. I look way ahead and say guys is that a light were we parked? we all start looking,.. ya,. car parked behind us,.. Ok another hundred yards,. Um guys there are like several vehicles there? John and Len are like huh? Pretty soon you can see the big reflective badges on the side of the 2x SUV's state police,.. ugh,..

Now normally I am like shit,.. what particular law am I breaking at this moment? I rummage through all the possible candidates and none come to mind,.. Whew I am clean,.. then I start to look over my hunting buddies wondering? LOL

So I will make the story short they start grilling us over the use of a canoe a month or two ago,.. What? You guys remember my canoe photos from a while ago. Apparently we parked on the Quabin side of the road not the swamp side so the thought we had ported a canoe down to the Qaubin for some nefarious illegal activity ?. They were polite enough about the whole thing but i have to give them credit for concocting a really bizarre crime plot in their heads,.. about us and a canoe,.. Really?

I decided that to be a good state cop you should be a busy body and poke your nose into whatever you can,.. that's probably how you catch folks doing odd/illegal shit,..

Just saying is all,..

It was all ok they did not even ask to see our LTC's or hunting permits,.. and like I say it was a friendly encounter and give them credit for treating us well,.. as I for one was nervous when they started grilling me about my canoe!

My first year back into hunting has been filled with some really odd stories for sure,.. and that is what makes hunting fun and memorable,..

Thank god those idiots are issued guns.

Really though, dear fucking lord I hate stupid people. The whole “concocting a story” bit is a result of someone hearing hoof falls thinking Zebras not horses. It’s a sign of an idiot. It’s some chem trails type crap.

I think what gets me most is the fact that there are a-holes in the woods right now poaching, who will be driving tomorrow, and the DCR cops will be oblivious.

I attended that Blue Hills briefing last year, and I’ll tell you what, I am NOT impressed with the DCR. I’m sure there’s a gem or two in there but I will forever be in awe that most of them don’t drown in their cereal each morning.

Wait What was the issue of using a canoe ? A month before someone used a canoe (maybe you) and that is something to question you over ? I hope our tax dollars are going to better use than that. They cracked the case wide open ! The canoe bandits ... Did someone piss in the Quabin ? Maybe they tasted something funny down the line and just knew you did it. I guess you can look at it like they are sticking there nose in to get a whiff but it sounds like a bunch of shit for brains with nothing better to do . And didn't even do it well.

I don't get it . Doesn't strike me as American . Do you have a big black scruffy beard, wrap yourself in a bed sheet , have a Middle eastern look or accent , smell bad ?

Is it against the law to use a canoe to get to a Hunting spot? Because I have a little river that I would like to cross where there is a nice little field and I have seen deer on it could not make out what they were can’t get close enough

1SG - nope... but it would have been if they were hunting in the quabbin (then everything is illegal unless you are part of the actual permitted hunt with specific access points etc.).

BB that's wild. Glad it all worked out. Kinda freaks me out to think about how nervous an LEO may be when approaching a hunter, given he/she knows we are armed... What gets me is that they even knew about the canoe thing, and wanted to check about it. Makes you wonder, do LEO's hang on bowsite to "check out" our activities and look for poaching etc? Unless I just missed it in your story, no one checked with you while using the canoe to enter the legal area (all legal), but then mysteriously show up and question you guys about it weeks later? It really does make you wonder if we are being spied on :)

Listen folks I sign up for this Next Door Neighbors forum/site,.. ya know it groups ya on a forum with those who live around ya for tag sales, etc,..

All of a sudden the state police are on the site introducing themselves,.. it is an officer who is "assigned" to it (their terminology) and the individual introduced himself to us all. Pretty friendly intro.

If anyone here for a second thinks that law is not watching this forum you are an idiot,.. this is from a Director of Technology. And in all honesty maybe they should be?,.. dunno?

I personally do not like big brother,.. but that is just me,..

If you post something illegal here,.. expect a visit,.. just saying.

PS Will when we walked up to the officers we placed our unloaded guns on the ground so they could feel comfortable,.. and they thanked us for doing that,.. Like I say all in all it was friendly. I was just wierded out at how they had concocted this bizzarro crime with a canoe in the Quabin that they felt worth investigating with 2 cars? It led me to believe they may be bored or something?

Here is the post on my other forum,.. at least the state police let ya know they are there to help us out and watching,.. it is my guess a good EPO would watch our forums maybe on his own,.. without directive from above ( I would if I was one) ,.. it would just a be a smart move to keep up the latest tech and habits of us,.. and as I said above I am not sure that is a bad thing even though I do not like the big brother ideal,..

Remember folks the State Police are there to help us out,.. not hurt us,.. EPO's are there to protect our environment,.. I respect both those causes,..

If the State police were involved, probably not hunting related. Might have been a serious crime involving a canoe such as missing person, escaped co nvict, body dumping etc. That they may have been investigating and "not at liberty" to discuss details with you.... just playing the Devils advocate...

This site, along with all other sites are monitored heavily, it comes down to what you do and what you post. There are things called NCIS, CORI, and Triple I, never mind Q1, Q2, and 25 and 26. Follow the laws and your good. Oh yeah, officer discretion matters also !

thats y they didnt ask for fid or hunting licences its been my experience unless they hunt stateys have verry little knowledge of hunting regs

That could well be,.. Like I say they are there to serve and protect us and honestly I have never had a bad encounter with any officer state or local,.. or EPO (never met one of them),..

It was a funny exit from hunting though,. Strange lights in the distance,.. sorta like a ufo encounter till I realized it was police,.. LOL

BB, when the seasons are over I would be blessed to buy you a coffee and chicken salad crousant at DDs'. Would love to have a meet and greet. I'm bringing my son too.

Sites like this are the EPO'S best tool. Hunting sites, Facebook, any social media site. They even show it on North woods law how they investigate guys because of things they post.

Guys on here filling out the who and where, guys collecting data, some guys admitting to killing over 90 deer. Doesn't matter how many states you say you hunt, that's a big red flag to them.

Better think twice before posting. You never know who's watching, or who's a EPO.
