Just got home in Eau Claire from Madison. My wife is staying in Madison but I needed to take care of some of Ryan's things. His leg has been saved and he has been stabilized. I think a lot of prayer from many people have to him this far. He will need continued healing, grafting, plastic surgery, physical therapy, but with continued prayer and family at his side, he can do it. An amazing physician in Costa Rica made the right moves to save his life and limb and stop the awful "flesh eating" bacterial infection. (necrotizing fasciitis ) Thank God we got him home for the long recovery he will have. Pray also for his mental health, he is having some rough PTSD like moments. Thanks to everyone here for your thoughts and prayers. Jim

We have been with him very day, some have been better than others. Prayer is working, the infection has been stopped and 3 surgeries at Madison are getting him closer to start of plastic surgery and wound closing procedures. It has been a parade of different specialty people in and out during the week. One more surgery Thurs, then start of plastic surgery next week. Still IV antibiotics for about 10 more days. Not sure if he will come home in 2-4 weeks or if he may go to a nursing healing facility first. I was amazed that nursing got him up behind a walker in the hall today. Pray that he keeps up the determination. Jim

Ryan finally came home Feb 27th. A home health nurse got us set up with maintaining his IV antibiotics and wound dressings. Meant to update this earlier but "burned out" running him to appts back to Madison, keeping track of IV's and wound changing, and a mess of meds. He got off IV's last Tuesday, a big relief; infectious disease Dr. at Madison says he is okay infection-wise. Now, just need to finish healing the skin grafts. Upper leg is great and lower is coming along great but needs about a month yet. Ryan is getting around pretty good, has decreased pain meds quite a bit so Dr,s are very optimistic. The mental part has been tough but he is improving a lot. Thanks again for all you thoughts and prayers: they have definitely been answered. Jim
