Hopefully some of the experienced MT guys can help with a draw question regarding a party application. How is a party app for general elk/combo treated when one person is a resident and one is NR? In the past it did not matter too much as there were always leftover general combo tags, however it appears that like last year there will be more apps than tags. Also is there any difference in NR draw odds for Big Game Combo (Elk/Deer) vs just the Elk Combo? Thanks in advance.

There is no party application for general licenses, R or NR.

Sorry should have been a bit more clear. We we are applying for an LE archery permit and as I understand it we will both have to draw a general elk or combo tag before we receive or draw the permit. What happens when one person on the party app is res and one is NR? If for instance I don't draw the NR general tag will the Res tag also be denied? Once again this was not something that was of concern until recently. Thanks again.

From the 2017 regulations, it would appear that if the NR did not draw a license, then neither the R or the NR would get a LE archery permit. Furthermore, since the LE permit party application is considered NR and if the hunting district is limited to the 10% NR, the odds would be down. It would not be a good bet for a resident to apply as a party application together with NRs for a LE permit, IMO.
