No expert here, but this is what I've found. It may take some time but if your willing to invest the effort, you'll be able to see some bears and have a stalk or two. Just get out and glass, glass, glass. Cover as much ground as you can, working on south facing slopes. Mainly afternoons and evenings. First slopes that green up are where they want to be in the early weeks, then they are onto elk calving grounds later in the season. Finding elk can help. When you find a bear, do not lose the wind, or they will be gone. You can't get away with bad wind. You can get away with some movement as they are a little more curious, but not the wind. Make sure thats right. Keep us posted and hope you get one. Remember bear hunting is conservation of elk and deer so don't get too caught up on size as most MT black bears aren't that big. Just get one killed and help out the herds. In my opinion we need more people hunting bears in our state as they kill a lot of elk. Good luck!

Bear season generally closes to soon, hunt the last part of the season for best results
