Drove up to my camp yesterday afternoon. You take a low traffic highway to the dirt Rd up to the camp.. Well someone was at the bottom of my road with their hazards on. Pulled over to see if they needed anything. It was a younger couple, the woman crying because they just hit a deer (probably the only one on the damn mountain!!) She was dead but as I'm looking at it I can see her belly moving. I quickly grabbed my knife, zipped her open and pulled out the fawn. I ha my buddy grab a zip tie from the truck and we zip tied the umbilical cord and cut that because I could see the deers heart beating but it didn't look like it was breathing. Had a paper plate in the truck and turned it into a cone and tried mouth to mouth on it for a while. The cop finally showed up and I explained to him the story. He asked what I wanted him to do with the thing... Take it to the damn vet!! And they say hunters are murderers and hate animals. I did my part and it was still alive when I left it. Will call the vet on Monday and see how it's doing. Action packed start to my weekend!!

Way to go moons. I would have called it dead taken it and put it on the rotisserie at camp. Lol. Only kidding!!!! The damn hippie tree huggers would have just stood there and said poor deer what do we do ? A hunter is a conservationist and tries to help the poor animal even though we are portrayed as killers by said hippie tree huggers. Maybe we should call the news stations and get a story made out of this !!!! Why not use social media to portray us in a good light unlike the monsters we are made out to be by the same hippie tree hugger that would have sat there and cried about the dying deer

Outstanding Mr. Moons ! Whatever happens in the end for that little one, it will not diminish your good intentions/ actions. This story will live on.
We are humans first and then hunters. There is no hypocrisy in an ethical hunter. We have permission from the creator to take from the world and so we do.
The humility and reverence for our gathering method is an individual experience, hunter or not. Your actions are an inspiration and display of the true heart you carry.
