BTW, if you have not already gotten an e-mail with info, please contact me at
[email protected] or text or call (845) 649-0907
I sent out the first e-mail on Friday to everyone on our e-mail list. If you would like to be put on the official 5C list, let me know!
Do you have DMAP tags for this hunt or would we need to apply for one on the 2nd draw? I'd hate to apply for a 5C tag and not be able to get a 4B because they ran out.
Thanks
Of course I'd have to renew my membership..... LOL
Chuck, No D-map tags, but you can now apply for 5C tags AND “regular” WMU tags starting with the 1st round of Surplus(unsold) tags.
Last year I applied for a 3D tag in the first round. Then next round I applied for 2D and 5C.
And you can renew right in camp when you get there! ;-)
OK- hope to see you there! : )
Hey I got no email, am I kicked out?
Hey I got no email, am I kicked out?
LOL! No way Andy- you're on the committee- must be a technical glitch. I'll check the list.
That's weird..................................it was a technical glitch- you were on the list, but it didn't send to you for some reason. I think I fixed it though.
For anybody that might like to stop in and see what this event is all about: You are welcome to stop in to Camp "WHACK-A-DOE" at any point. Even if you are not hunting with us. Just stop in and say you saw this on Bowsite! ;-) Friday nite is Pizza nite and Saturday nite is the Pig Roast.
Well I must admit I got the email yesterday and also noticed I got it last week too. Had Canada on the mind and must have looked past the email or forgot that I received it. Sorry bud
That's what you say every year Phil......................................... ;-)
I made it twice. Two years ago I was in Italy and last year it was on my wife's birthday but this year it's early so that's why I should be able to make it.
Besides, it doesn't feel like hunting when you have to wear shorts and a tee shirt. :)
I'm just "bustin' your chops" Phil! (I owed you one! ;-)
Hopefully shorts will not be part of our hunting attire this year! : )
I hope not. Of course I hope it is dry too.
What wrong with shorts and no shoes hunting?
Now that photo conjures up images I don't want to think about. :)
I can get poison ivy so easily I never go into any woods around here wearing shorts.
I'm just thankful the vegetation was thick and I could not see Ed from my stand! ;-)
Nice photo shop skills Bob!!! LOL
I love it when Bob paints my nails.. Even better when he rubs warm oil on them.. :)
I will be bringing at least three new people to the event this year. And there's a bumper crop of whitetails again this year.
And I'll pay for Roy's gas if he makes the trip East this year :)
We need guys that will actually KILL deer Joe! ;-)
My buddy Steve is going to come this year.
Nice! Looking forward to seeing “Big” Steve this year! ;-)
I'm working on getting some new faces to come this year as well, maybe Mr. Magistro will make an appearance, he should be all moved in by then
Sounds good Andy!
I hope everybody remembers to send their pink envelopes in! I don’t have access to e-mail to send the group e-mail reminders out.
Ok Phil, now ya just gotta show up! ;-)
I’ll probably be telling my story around the evening campfire. It is a testimony to the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ! Just no other way to explain it!
At the risk of sounding dramatic, by all rights, I SHOULD be dead. Once you hear the story, you will understand. Only by the grace of GOD, am I still here. Praise the Lord! : )
Rut, glad to see your finally on the mend... And Modern medicine may want to be mentioned. Just saying.
John, Yes! The first responders and the top notch toxicologists at UPMC definitely were vital in HIS plan! ;-)
I saw 5C still has a ton of tags. Can we still buy them? If so how do I do it? Send another envelope?
Chuck- YES! Just send in another pink envelope with 5C application. Starting this round you can apply for “special regs” WMU’s AND “regular” WMU’s at the same time. You just can’t apply for 2 “regular” WMU’s at the same time.
You’re quite welcome! Hope to see you at 5C!
Sending my 5C application in today. Can you send it to any county treasurer or does it have to be the one where the unit is located?
Send in to any treasurer. But avoid Norristown,
Any treasurer Chuck! You have a PM! ;-)
My buddy Clint says he's coming, I gave him Perry's contact info.
Cool! I'm planning on being there.
Ok Bob, Going in to work for a visit and to check e-mails.
Sounds like we’re gonna have a bunch of new folks this year- looking forward to meeting them!
5C application submitted.
Well, Dan’s been out today scouting some of the 5C farms and talking to landowners.
Dan says there is plenty of deer damage! One farmer says “KIILL THEM ALL!” ;-)
Not sure if you can get a perspective on this corn field but the majority of the field is wiped out. Only tall stuff is by the woods
And here are the culprits! Landowner says more this year than ever!
Hope y’all are shootin’ well! ;-)
Dan might have picked up a new farm!
How does this work? Do we show up thursday night?
Is the hunt on game lands and private land?
Chuck, We set up camp Wed. Morning. Guys start rolling in wed afternoon. Once they set up camp and get registered and pay, they talk to Dan our property manager and agree on a property to hunt.
That is the “magic” binder with all of our properties in front of Dan. Right now we have more private ground than we have hunters. Each Hunter gets a satellite map of the property with boundary markers, where to park, likely stand locations, address/directions etc...........
You can come into camp at any time(Wed-Sat), but we just ask that you get there by 10pm to hunt the next morning, and 2pm to hunt that evening- to have time to consult with Dan and get a property assigned.
You may get paired up with another hunter(or 2) depending on the size of the property. There may also be hunters hunting solo at times. For those hunting solo, we have a check in/out board for safety.
You’re welcome Chuck.
We also have a mandatory code of conduct to sign and a proficiency test to pass. Code of conduct just spells out what is expected of each Hunter. And proficiency test should be self-explanatory. We have not had anybody fail yet- so I’d say our Bowhunters are too-notch.
RC hasn't attended since a Proficiency Test has been instituted. Just sayin'.
No, I haven't attended since I got sick eating your Italian dinner... And your mozzarella cheese was a flop too. I've never seen mozzarella soup before:)
What is the proficiency test?
You have nothing to worry about. If Boober McQuacker can pass it, a blind man could too:)
Chuck- if you can hit a pie plate at 20y you are golden! ;-)
That's what made me sick the last time I was there.
I couldn't pass your Italian dinner the next morning.
Was it on the pie plate that everyone was shooting?
RC couldn't hit water even if he fell out of a boat.
If you got sick on anything, it had to be from that mixture of rubbing alcohol and red vinegar you tried to pass off as wine. I've bit into lemons that were smoother tasting.
I hit our Northampton Co. farms last night and found that a lot of the bridges over that way are washed out (encountered 3 bridges out getting to our farms). Fairly easy detour to get around; perhaps by the time 5C rolls around, they might have them fixed?
Same story over that way; farmers are seeing more deer this year than ever before! Not to mention a recent bear sighting.
Sounds good Dan!(except for the bridges ;-)
Been awhile since we had a bear brought into camp.................
So Nut,, when you starting the 3c bear hunt???
Ed- I figured that would be your deal since you live there! ;-)
Chuck- YES! In 5C bear is open during the entire early archery season. So we encourage everyone to get a bear tag. You don’t have a GREAT chance of shooting one down there, but I would HATE to be sitting in my treestand and have one walk by and NOT have a tag! : (
Dale Hajas shot a really nice bear at 5C one year. Maybe he will post some pics. The ones I have are on my work PC which I do not have access to right now.

Nut, But your the UBP's official social director.
Social Director? Now that's funny..
Hell he can't even take a hike without getting bit..
Dale- that IS a great pic!
Ed- I’ll probably be hunting out in 2D that week.
Roy- BITE ME! ;-)
Well Roy, after that snake bite anything you could do would be nothing in comparison! ;-)
Perry's just saying that because he's never had any of Roy's homemade rust-remover, I mean wine.
Yeah, I’ve managed to avoid it all these years! : )
Just got another report from Dan. He and Joe visited another farm last night.
“Walked up on a big fawn (still had spots; prob a button)
Walked the edge of the corn and saw 2 nice 8s in the beans. Then we see a corn stalk shaking back and forth. 15 seconds later a deer bust out of the corn.
We were prob there no more than 15 mins and encountered 5 deer”

Finished up the 5C farm visits today. Look who I ran into at the campground.
Well, I sure hope this forecast holds! It’s been several years since we have seen temps like this for 5C! ;-)
Perry, they can't predict the weather right for tomorrow let alone a month from now.
Oh Gary cleaning up camp.
Yeah Roy- but we can hope................... ;-)
Anyone who planned on going to this and had hopes of an over the counter tag, you may be left wanting. 5C is tanking right now, less than 6K left Friday at 9am.
Yeah, I saw that John. We’ve been telling folks for several years now, NOT to wait til they go over the counter!
I have been buying 5C tags for a long time, this is the lowest I have ever seen the Friday before. 5500 at 9:40am? Wow.
If they make it to Monday, the lines will be brutal trying to get the last ones including the PETA people.
4826 at 11:20!
We saw this coming several years ago.
If there are any left, I will be in line on Monday morning to get one more. I don’t expect a big line up here in Pike Co! ;-)
Rut, how far are you from the old Sisters sporting goods?
Sisters Sports.................now there is a name I haven’t heard in awhile! ;-)
Not far- maybe 15 min drive.
I actually started my hunting career right around the corner from there in the early 80's all the way through 2006 which was the last time we were at that camp. Went to my first doe tag burning party at the camp next door on Sunday night before opening day of buck season ... Spent a lot of time there.
LOL! I think it closed up not long after that.
Oh how terrible.... They are running out and I only got 3 tags so far... LMAO
2B has 49,639 left. Apply there, take a road trip and hunt. Quit yer crying... Every year it's the same guys whining about doe tags.
Y'all are worse than old ladies at bingo, getting into a purse fight...
5C and 5D selling out baby... if you aint in line right now, your are going to be in bad shape.
No line in Pike Co this morning at 8:30. I got 2 more.
I just checked and only 493 left at 11am. They will be SOLD OUT by noon!
Heard the lines were long in Norristown today.
Think about that 90,000 doe tags sold before noon on Aug 27... Wonder how many of those will be used in 2F,G and H?
I bet next year they won’t even make it to OTC!
I wonder how many guys went to the Treasurer's office on their lunch break hoping to get some tags?
More than a few. This might be the end of OTC if that is the case, they just do not learn.
2b has 48387 left. Ya better hurry... I'd expect them to never sell out.
Can't remember 5C selling out before 5B.
I was out visiting some farms on Sunday, holy smokes was smoke right about the crop damage, the field I hunted 2 years ago all you could see in the beans was the head of the deer that's how high they were, this year the field of beans is 1ft tall. Saw some nice slickies too
Good to hear it Chuck!
I hope everybody is shootin well! Like Andy says, deer damage is higher than ever this year. In fact Dan says several of the farmers are contemplating going Red Tag if not enough deer are taken this year. Sure hope that doesn’t have to happen!
Some additional items you guys may want to consider bringing to the 5C hunt this year:
Chest Waders, Kayak or Canoe, Bilge Pump, Life Vest, Snorkel, Swim Fins, Jet Ski
I will keep an eye on the bridges around our Northampton properties. Might need a few detours to get to some of our best properties over there as the bridges were out when I made my rounds last month.
So you’re saying we should start practicing shooting out of our Kayaks Dan? ;-)
LOL ... might need a kayak to get to your stand, or to get around the camp ground!
Got my 2B tag today so I'll be there.
OK Roy- just scratch out that 2B and write in 5C! ;-)
The way the weather is looking, I may decide not to attend the hunt this year.
Great, I'm going for sure, NOW!
The weather forecast looks good for now - partly cloudy to mostly sunny and highs at 70-71 from Wednesday through Sunday.
WTH Mcquacker????? I see the same forecast as Phil- lows of : 48, 49 and 51 and highs of: 73,72 and 61. Will be like hunting in an ice-box compared to the last 2 years! ;-)
He's scared knowing I'll be there and I'll laugh at him when he fails the proficiency test with his trusty longbow:) Bobby is all dialed in..
So Bob must have an in at the National Weather Service. They've changed the forecast now for Wednesday the 19th through Saturday the 22nd. Thursday is the best day - no rain. Wednesday - 60%, Friday - PM showers - 40% and Saturday -showers - 40%.
They'll probably change it a few more times in the coming week.
You girls crack me up. Glad to see at least Phil figured out how to get the correct 10 day weather report for Kutztown, PA.
Ya that's really hard to fugger out...
I don’t know what forecast you’re lookin’ at, but AccuWeather hasn’t changed much!
Accuweather is usually wrong.
My experience with all the sources for forecasts is that everyone except NOAA will give a 10-15 day forecast, modify it a few days in an then the weather will end up being what was originally forecasted anyhow. I generally follow the NOAA page and pay attention to the Forecast Discussion link where meteorologists give their thought on upcoming weather. All the weather services get their raw data from NOAA. Then they apply their special formula to figure it out.
Hain't none of em know what they are forecasting... Only forecast they get right is how much it rained yesterday:)
LOL! Well, I hope that Accuweather forecast is comes close! ;-)
Perry, ya better find some 20"paper plates for McQuackers test:)
not going to make it this year.
Sorry to hear that- you will be missed Mike!
Was at the campground today moving some stuff around making room for campers, owner told me that they been seeing lots of deer and hearing of bear sightings
SOunds good Andy!
I hate to say it, but it looks like Phil was right about the forecast. (higher temps now and possible thunderstorm Sat. ;-)
No need to hate saying that. I was as wrong as everyone. Go back and look at the posts form the 11th and 12th. Now there is no mention of rain until Sunday and the weather will be hotter for Wednesday and Friday than earlier predicted.
But Bob had this one all wrong. :)
The way it looks for now I'll probably show up for Friday morning. Plan to hunt the SGL then head over to the campground around noon to make a contribution and see folks. Won't be hunting the evening.
I just renewed my UBP membership on line. I'm also going to buy the camo hat with an elk on it.
I'll be using my compound bow vise my recurve. I've been so distracted with life and work issues that I haven't had time to shoot. When I do shoot it takes me four to six arrows to get into my groove. I just can't seem to keep focused (I need a vacation).
I'm going to try and get out of work early on Thursday. I was only planning on hunting Friday night, but I really need to get away and chill out for a few days.
Question: If you shoot expandable BH's can we use field points for the proficiency test?
But Bob had this one all wrong. :) AGAIN????????????
Question: If you shoot expandable BH's can we use field points for the proficiency test?
Oh heck ya..
Old Bob McQuacker uses those turkey heads that are 6 inches wide. Only way he can qualify:)
Thunderflight, I don't think they require broadheads for the test. If they do it's new.
"Old Bob McQuacker uses those turkey heads that are 6 inches wide. Only way he can qualify"
Thats genious!!
LOL Guys! : )
Field points are not only acceptable, but preferred! ;-)
Mcquacker is real quiet. Think he’s not going
You out there bob? You can use my tent if you want to
Bill v
Bill, you would never get the smell out of it.
Yed haf ta burn it.
I sure hope Bob is going..................I got an invite to his famous Wed night Italian Feast this year! ;-)
Oh god..
Ya better pack some tums:)
OK guys- this is it! Pretty soon Bowjo and the boys will be setting up CAMP WHACK-A-DOE! It feels strange to be sitting at work and not driving down to Kutztown, but I could only get 2 days off work this year. (burned up a lot of leave recently! ;-)
Look for the UBP 5C SEMI-LIVE HUNT thread. Will start it tonight when I get to camp.
Can I bring my dog? He is a 4 month Lab.
My wife and daughter are going to Ohio this weekend and I can't leave him alone for that long.
I can leave him in the back of my truck while I'm in the woods.
No problem Chuck. There are usually a couple dogs in camp.
Not going to make it this year. Had a death in the family and will be heading to Johnstown for a viewing and funeral.
Sorry to hear that Phil! Prayers going out to you and the family.
So sorry, Phil.
Prayers for the family.
Camp whack-a-doe is filling up.
Sorry Phil, is that Johnstown PA? I'm actually from Johnstown OH
Thanks folks but I didn't mean to derail this thread.
Thunderflight, It is Johnstown, PA. I knew there was a Johnstown in NY but didn't know about OH.
No problem Phil! Time to close this thread anyway. Time for the UBP 5C SEMI-LIVE HUNT thread! ;-)
Good luck to you guys and gals up there. Kill em all
Don’t let any pass

Yours truly fed the entire camp last night...and everyone loved it. ??
Hey Folks, I am interested in joining UBOFPA and attending some camps this season (Already have my doe Tags). I did go to KU for semester and then later to PSU, so I would love to get back to my roots! Additionally, would anyone like to provide referral for the membership or is it not necessary?
You can go to ubofpa.org and there will be a membership link on there

Rambow, you can use my name.
Ya sure as heck don't want to use rutnut, phil magistro, or bob mcarthur. Those guys are nothing but trouble makers.
LOL
You have a PM Rambow- hope to see you next year!
