Never thought about it relative to bears. With deer, it's awesome for those choosing to hunt private, and good for those of us hunting public only because the higher deer numbers meander around. In other words, my little honey holes on public land in the NE corner are aided by the private land in the area.
With bears though, if hunting is limited in a similar way, I wonder if hunting could have a solid effect on population? I'd like to think so, but I wonder...
Regardless, you all have a zillion (feels like) down there. I was happy the healthy one I saw walking out last deer season in Ashford was as startled of me as I was him and ran down the hill side away from me, phew! My summit would have made me seem crispy to him any way :)
Saw one Sunday up here fly fishing on a popular C and R river here in North Central MA, it stayed on the other side of the river thankfully... I was glad its a pretty big river (the Millers).
