My good friend just got his buck back from the taxidermist. The mount came out absolutely amazing....top quality work! He used (and I have also used him) Wild Arts in Berlin. We won’t use anyone else. Dave makes your mounts look alive.
Seeing that it’s almost summer and we’re all bored, let’s guess the age of the buck. He just got the results back from deerage.com. Here’s the first pic of the deer in the field first. Good luck!
Beautiful.....
Beautiful.....
Here’s the finished mount.
he looks like he got smaller ?? 4.5
Only cause it takes years for a deer to learn how to lay down upside down with a camo clad guy behind him id say 8 1/2
16, all my deer have 16 years old if my math is correct.
4.5 maybe out west, if CT I would make a guess older at so I'll say 7.5
Good guesses so far....keep em coming.
Snout looks long. I'd say 8.5.
Is that the Ramapola Buck? Lol. This is nearly impossible to do without at least seeing the buck on his feet. Can’t see his belly, his chest or his spinal curvature. As a complete guess I’ll say 5.5
Really looking for this. That said, while thinking about it on my lunch time bike ride, I realized that a guy on the MA page shot a gorgeous buck last year up here that just about anyone would have guessed 3.5-4.5 on. It was just a hair smaller than the rack on this one... Amazingly, it was 2.5 (according to the state bio who aged it). Part of me wonders if you are going to come back and shock all of us with a 3.5. :)
9.5 because nobody said it yet.
Anywhere from 4.5 to 8.5, definitely mature. Know the dressed weight?
The buck weighed 190lbs field dressed.
Bucks grow their biggest racks between 5-6 years, so he should be in that range based upon the size of the rack.
4.5, what part of the state?
Ok. All guesses are in I suppose.
The deer aged in at 6.5 years old. Interesting that most of guys guessed too young. I think we are conditioned to think that way. This was fun.
Very cool! It's awesome he got that old. You may well be correct on conditioning. We (humans) tend to get trigger lock on outliers. so you see the deer or hear the story about a oddly big 2.5-3.5 YO and that slides into mind as a form of "normal".
I'd have never guessed 6.5. 5.5, maybe... but my gut instinct was 4.5. It's amazing that he survived that long.
Public land or private?
Thanks for the "game"!
I was thinking older, but couldn't really distinguish a Roman nose from the pic, so went with a guess on the low end.
Should've had my big one aged - still regret I didn't.

Not me, you're a piece of work! Please don't ever change. That's funny right there!
Great thread Bloodtrail. There have been a few others like this in CT where the age's were surprising, which prompted my higher guess here. I think Pat had one a while back and maybe Al or someone else where the deer were much older than everyone thought. If that was a midwest deer, I would have guessed a few years lower.
