Jumped one up today, bases looked decent but it ran straight away with head down and I couldn’t tell Much about it. But of course bases usually look good in velvet

Saw one standing by the road last week , Really cant tell to much about them just yet . Wait till the soy beans get going good the fields will be full here of bucks in mason co .

From: Babysaph
14-Jun-18
The soybeans here are getting chewed off at the ground before the cone up. They are really tearing them up.

Late July to Late Aug , that is when i see most and biggest bucks in our bean fields, I am sure that some may be coming in at nite, but July and Aug are best months to see them in bean just before dark.

Some nice bucks in velvet being killed here on crop damage permits.

Babysaph , Does the local Natural Resources Officer know this is going on, if not he should. You need to report these people. How nice could a buck be on July 10 ?

From: JayD
11-Jul-18
I agree with you hoppies - report them - there are actually some nice bucks out there right now - my daughters and I drove into Virginia to go to a Topgolf facility yesterday and I saw one of the biggest bucks I ever have seen down around a vineyard there. Velvet and points everywhere! He was already a good 14 to 16 inches high - I could not really tell the width because he never did face us but if I were to guess he was over 16 inches wide - hard to believe he still has over a month of growing. He got to me so much I plan to ride down that way in the next few weeks to see about getting permission to hunt!

From: Babysaph
11-Jul-18
I have reported them. The DNR people don't care. The farmers here just want dead deer. I have said this before but the farmers here don't discriminate. I had one tell me the bucks eat their crops too. LOL. And some guys can't kill a deer unless it is on crop damage. That whole process makes me mad. And I have seen some nice bucks too near my house already.

From: hoppies56
11-Jul-18
Sure there are few bucks that are further along in antler growth than others i have not doubt in that . I have been getting a few pics of one buck that still getting width. I say this if you push the dnr hard enough shooting bucks in velvet with stop , Call dnr district office on them.Get names, Get other hunters to call . If i knew it was happening a lot around here i sure would be calling Charleston DNR Office.

From: Babysaph
11-Jul-18
I might just do that. The squeeky wheel get the oil.

From: gobbler
11-Jul-18
JR, I would call Col. Jenkins at S. Charleston office. He is the head of DNR LE

From: Babysaph
11-Jul-18
I am going to do that. Thanks.

I had four bucks behind the house the other night. One, I assume, was a 3-year old with good mass and even with his ears. Looks like he's going be a 6 pt; two others were 2-year olds and the other a 1-year old spike.

From: Babysaph
13-Jul-18
Is the spike a trophy spike? That is what we call a spike with each spike being 10 inces or more in Pendleton county. They are as hard to get as a 125 inch deer.:)

would this qualify as a trophy?

From: Babysaph

Yes.

From: Babysaph
05-Aug-18
In fact that is a trophy spike if he has no stickers. Hard to find these trophy spikes with spines over 8 inches. In fact I have killed more 150 class bucks than these. Ne y time you are hunting look for yourself. Lol

21-Aug-18
Saw a nice 2 year old 8 pt just out past his ears about 15 yards away from our front porch yesterday morning. Watched him for about 30 minutes walk completely around the house. About 80 to 90 yards out from the house I have a mock licking branch that he went over and checked out. I have only been seeing Young bucks there so far. Need to get my cameras out but have been too lazy and busy to so yet.

Saw this fellow behind the house this morning. We know he’s at least 5 and may be 6 years old. We’ve had him on the hit list the last two years, but come season, he disappeared--maybe he’ll stick around this year.

He’s crippled in the back quarters and walks with a horrible limping gate.

I've got his right-side shed from last year. It looks the same except for being considerably smaller.

Just saw 6 bucks together out at the beginning of the road that comes back to our house. 2 spikes one still with velvet, 3 little baskets and one that might be a shooter next year. All except for the one spike had the velvet off. They all walked/ran in front of the truck about ten yards away. I was bringing my daughter home from gymnastics should I get her to post on here as well to verify it for you hoppes? LOL jk

They are getting in the seeking mode. I hit a big 8 point on Monday 10/22/18 here in Jefferson county at 9:30 am. He was an old deer with a huge body I never did any grunting but he came in very slow with that side step body sway. Got in the shoulder to much and only got about 2" penetration with my muzzys. Was not a vital hit and he will live. the same evening had a decent 8 that i passed on came in and went over and rubbed a cedar. so It is about to get cranked up here in the next week or so.
