Anyone been out to check cams? How is antler growth? I'm gonna pull a few cards on Sunday. Have had them soaking all winter/spring... Hopefully they're still there!
Have some cameras up in local swamps, all are pretty discouraging. Wildlife deserts. Of course, maybe that means they’ll be crawling with deer come November.
Mr. Hootie !
Mr. Hootie !
I pulled a card after a couple of weeks the other day bc I needed to put a trophy rock out under cam. I had 2 bucks together. one out by his ears w/ brows and the other not as wide w/ larger brows starting. I won't check this spot again until August. I have to put several more out. I may get one or 2 out next weekend. Otherwise, I prob won't get much going until the first week of August with my daughter's travel softball schedule.
I have been lazy and not stuck a cam up... Despite my earlier thoughts. Need to get busy on that.
I did see on FB that SevOne posted one the other day that was well beyond the ears already. Seems most I've seen on others FB pages are getting close or past the ears and some are really taking shape. We are in the heart of growing season here so they should be gaining significant amounts daily.
Not a trail cam but my cousin sent me this today. City deer in Framingham
Wow nice one already. I have one out since Turkey that I haven’t checked yet and just put one in my backyard and got a doe first day. Also had some and fawn in my backyard. Psyched I’m going to hunt back there this year.
After a 2 week soak and seeing 4 bucks on the day I put it in, I gots 180 + doe pics. Go figure. Won't touch it until August now.
Two bucks. Larger one is in the back, harder to see. I have pics of him last year when he carried 9 points. Lots of does, coyotes and a few fawns. So far no coyotes with fawns, thank god.
I guess there is some animals in Nh!
Any bear experts have an estimated weight on this guy? Pushing 300?..
The deer and the moose are standing in the same spot. Crazy the size difference.
That’s deceiving Moons he looks 300 but his ears and high belly make me think a lot less.
Here is a large sow with her pretty big cub in tow (you can see the cub has a collar) coming in to check out the bird feeder. What do you think the sow weighs?
That looks like a state record cub!!!
Moons, X2 what Spike said, alot of light below the belly. Would say pushing 180-200. Hunter MA, that looks like a big female with the collar and a bigger male in tow, breeding for bears is usually in June. In MA the state only collars females so they can go back to the den to check cub production and overall health, males get just ear tags. Please hunt them !
It was funny to watch, he was laying in the grass eating a suet cake and Mom got tired of waiting for him and chomped down on him and started to drag him off by his ear. That got his attention, typical teenager. He was big, but half the size of the sow!
Upon closer inspection I have two good bucks on cam up in Nh. Thought they were the same but think one has bigger brows.
Thanks xi, good info on the collar vs ear tag, did not know that but makes sense. Any guestimate on what the male would weigh in at? Maybe he will hang around until Sept and give me a shot, a guy can dream.
nice pics guys. I put a cam out in NY yesterday. Tons of sign in there again this year. I won't check the other cam I have out until August. I still have to put another 4 out.
Nice one Sev! Looks like you have it set over a scrape. I was planning on switching my cards last week but then my truck died on me and I still havent found the right replacement lol. cams will have to wait
Sevone, good to see you on again, what happened last season? Moons, is that eastern MA?
Moons if you can see that bear, then he can see you. What he’s doing in that picture is running back to the woods to tell his friends he has the answer to an age-old question about humans...
Spike it's an Nh bear. Although I did see one in Ashland and one in Dover within the last 2 weeks.
Jeb and what would that question be..
I get it Jeb, very clever.
Variation on the question does a bear crap in the woods?
Put out a little grain in front of one of my cameras. 251 pictures, 100% raccoons and squirrels.
Jeb I think it’s time for a new spot.
Heh yes. No argument there.
Put a cam out in NY 2 weekends ago and put one up behind house yesterday afternoon. 3 out. at least 3 more to go.
Wonder how he will turn out this year....
Wonder how he will turn out this year....
Hoping for a good year.....
That's a nice one bigcountry. I won't check any of my cams that have been out until August most likely.
wow nice buck big C! I finally got around to checking a cam in mass. Lots of deer, no giants but if you didn't know I'm not picky. Deer pics basically everyday since I last checked in early May. No coyotes either!
Oh yeah got my cams in from Walmart only $28.88 each!
Moons will tag out in one sitting. Nice deer everyone.
Checked another one.... omg
Moons those are some monsters, good luck with them.
Nice looking deer guys! Finally got a couple cams out today.
Nice ones guys! Moons, that one has your name all over it!
A relative took this one the other day in his back yard.
Wow is right. Also, that’s a beautiful garden. Wish my yard looked like that, including the deer.
It almost looks like that buck is just part of the garden decor.
That's why moons does so well, it's fenced in... ;-)
Yup going to have to bring some wire cutters and let him out lol.
Hahah!! That fence don't work!! They jump that thing like it's nothing. Awalk, I hope said relative let's you hunt back there
checked a cam today between meetings. As I suspected, the camera was knocked down by a bear (happens almost weekly) and the BB2 block I had out was missing (another frequent summertime bear issue). However, even w/ the camera pointing downwards, I did manage to get a pic of the big boy I was after last season before the block was gone. Glad he made it. I'll try to post soon. I only got a few pics of him due to the camera angle... damn bears.
If you hunt bear over a cam, is that considered baiting? If not that sounds like a sure fire way to get a bear.
Moons I wish! Not enough room between houses! Dart and relocate? Haha
I rub my bear cam in beef fat for water protection,..
Ok i admit i currently ,.. and have never before hunted bear.
I learned a lot by following last years bear thread though,.. someone start another!!!
Here is the big boy from last year. Tough to tell this early on, but looks to be a big 10 again this year. I can't wait to see what he looks like come September when he's done growing.
Good one Ungie hope you get him. Can’t wait to check my cams.
I think this is the big boy I was after the past 2 seasons. Last year was a 13 pt. Year before big 10. Excited to see what he is this year with some better pics and a fully grown rack. I still have to put 3 more out.
one of our big boys went down hill this year might be 7 years old .
For sure Steve. I hope to have some better pics of him next time I check next month. I do have to bring a new block in to put out this week though.
That buck is a stud, Ungie!
Yeah... he was a slammer last year once fully grown. I can't wait to see what he does this year.
Checked cam yesterday. new buck showed up.
None yet but have had one soaking at our NY camp for 7 months now. Just haven't been up there to retrieve it yet.
I need to get my cams out this week been tied up with everything else has anyone been getting pics of fawns yet?
saw a doe with twins from my truck last week. they looked to be about 65 lbs or so. growing well
@ captain I have pics of a doe with two fawns. Don't have card with me at the moment... will post later...
Put 2 more cams out Friday. I just have one more (cell cam) to put out way up the ridge in one of my favorite spots I have the pic of the big boy in. I have one extra cam at home in case I get another spot or have another stolen...
Wow - Moons bachelor group pic's are awesome - as are everyone's buck shots (and does etc). Just back from 2 weeks in MN, now I really do have to get off the tuckus and strap a cam to a tree!
wow sevone... that is a brute!
Yeah he’s a good one I’ve been on them for a few years now.
It’s like a zoo in my woods zone 6.
It’s like a zoo in my woods zone 6.
Hopefully something bigger
Thats pretty cool there Noah..lol you building an arc?
Haha Spike, more like a nursery. Only you could get those pics, I'm rooting for you !
From girlfriends back yard.
3 different bucks. Last two pics look the same. New public land spot. Can't wait.
Here's the buck I've been after for 3 years now... pics on the black flash are very bright. Not sure what is going on.
Nice buck Ungie! Some cams let you adjust the IR flash so you don't get overexposure at closer ranges.
Awesome looking deer guys - and spike, are there 3 or 4 baby bears in that pic! WOW!
Ungie that’s a true giant, good luck with him!
Will, 3 cubs. The cool part is mom and one cub have a white chevron on their chest. Ungie holy crap.
N.Y. buck
N.Y. buck
buck i took a shot at last season quartering to me that survived!!.. last year photo first
Redemption time! Good luck
Good luck HoofHanger! He's a beauty - that 9 makes me think of one I blew a shot on at the beginning of November last year... Hope you get a crack.
My three good ones are back on their summer ground. Hopefully they stay a little longer this year.
Pic two and three look like same buck may be wrong either way wow!
He looks like a beast in that second pic! Big thick body, wide tall rack. What a buck.
Great bucks guys, I can't buy a deer in mass.
wow... those are some slammers!
Sev, I see you have another little skipper you're onto;)
Yeah hope something a bit more mature shows up lol
The Boyz are back!
The Boyz are back!
Sev, you need some help ain’t no way you can cover all that ground yourself.
But I can try spike... I can try...
Sev do you ever have a problem with the big boys spotting the cam ? Seems like I can catch them once on a cam and they notice it the first time and won't use the same trail/area again for weeks . I know that they are bedding in this spot so I'll put my cam on a trail they use to access it and they always spot it and use a different trail after. Don't have a problem with doe or younger bucks but the big boys are so wary it's crazy.
I usually put the up pretty high and brush them in ... sometimes i even hide them in the knot of a tree or old stump.. so it looks like a dark hole from the outside. or up high enough that it is out of line of sight (for deer and hunters). I hide them good enough that sometimes i have trouble finding them to go check them lol.
Thanks sev . I went back today to pull this cam and hang one up high.
Nice bowhunt! Is the double throat patch buck still around?
I hope so moons !! I didn't hear of anyone taking him on the neighboring properties. I haven't gotten any pics of him yet this year but that's not unusual. I only get 1 or 2 pics of him a year and it's usually Nov. Keeping my fingers crossed. R u ready for NH bear ?
Sev - that's a good idea. I have occasionally done that in a rock wall - literally slid the cam back in a hole for example. And I always add local sticks with leaves to help make them look more natural... Never thought to look for a hole in a tree up high or at hip level, need to keep that in mind.
I am trying the high thing again though. I had a gigantic 7pt for several years that only came through at night, I just prayed I could catch him on the one day he made a mistake - to my knowledge, he either died of old age or is about 9 or 10 years old now - amazing for a heavily hunted public land deer (pays to go where others wont :)). Anyway, I tried putting the cam up close to 10feet, and he picked it off his first time through, and avoided that run, or at least that spot, from that point forward that year.
How high do you place your cam's? I dont remember ever seeing one of your vid's or pic's with a buck looking up, and lord know's you have lots of pic's of 4.5- lord knows how old bucks! :)
Hopefully he doesn't know what he is looking at
Hopefully he doesn't know what he is looking at
Checked some cams up north
Looking good Moons. Is that a local bear? Because I plan to do some east-of-495 bear hunting this year.
Moons, what a stud. They are all great, but man, that first one is a beauty!
Had a bachelor group come by one of my spots this morning.
Yeah was pleasantly surprised! These are in some huge woods in NH. Like middle of no where get lost if you don’t know where you’re going Woods. Jeb that bear is not local, But there are some around! I have my bear tag just in case.
Just a little guy but this camera is 10 yards into the woods from my fenced in back yard. In a pretty highly populated neighborhood in Norton MA.
2.5 weeks and I couldnt take it any longer, had to go take a look, so lunch time today I did.
One cam was a few does, one that seems to have twins - they came round 1-2x day... but no deer with antlers.
The other had a lot less traffic than I thought it would, but I'm pretty sure, based on what I saw today that it was not in as good a spot as I thought when I left it. There were better runs and areas, but I learned more about the area and am confident given I have at least 3 bucks in the area that it will be a fun spot to use calls and what not. I bet November is really fun.
What I thought was cool in this pic, was that they almost look like they are sparring, though still in velvet. Fall is on the way, and it's only another week or two before most shed velvet... Bet these guys are getting close.
you guys are getting some great pics. i figured i'd share one of mine
