Scrapes - what do you think of them? Do you hunt over them? Maybe just nearby? Do you search them out? What do they mean to you? What do they tell you? Ever had a buck come in while you were sitting over one? Ever kill a buck over one? Should northern WI scrapes be hunted differently than farmland scrapes? How? Let's hear your experiences with scrapes? Good, bad, or otherwise? What do you think of them as a bowhunting aid? Tell us what you think of scrapes.

I hunt them depending on where they are, the size and activity, and the time of the rut. Shot two bucks with there nose on the licking branch.

Fun reading the attached thread. Guess I never put the after pictures of that buck up. I should do that.
Love scrape hunting the rut.

There is so much experience on this site, you would get hundreds of opinions, based on observation, which is the only way to give an opinion. I have seen areas so ripped up, looked like an air strike, yet no movement during shooting times........... I figured that was due to pressure........................
I found scrapes in more remote big woods, that were like hunting over bait, there was a lot of activity..............................
This year, I will have to see what the hill country is like, that is a new game for me.......

You will enjoy the hill country. I do. The thermals will drive you nuts! Winds go every which way. Sometimes impossible to be predictable!

The attached thread by Novice was one of the better threads, imo... I took a lot of that information to my memory bank.
The one consistent thing I found on the best daytime scrape/s. They were between 2 or more doe bedding areas. That I would like to add.. I know les and mike are most likely chasing elk come September. Early season scrapes are just as good. Harder to find but if you know where to look. You will find more and they can be just as great..

I shot my first every archery buck about 30 years ago that was coming to a scrape just after first light in the morning where it had rained most of the night before. My arrow caught him as he was stretching his nose out to within about a foot of the scrap. I've shot many bucks since but not over a scrape.

Scrapes are the hot ticket. Find an active scrape and you are all but guaranteed all the bucks and hot does will visit every day. I have even successfully made a scrape that brought them in and a nice buck fell to it.
