I have been thinking about going out and scouting pre-season for elk and deer to figure out there summer patterns in my unit. The problem is that our "hunting grounds" are 6 hours away from Denver. If I'm going to go I am only going to go once. If lets say at the beginning of August I go, will the patterns stay the same when archery season opens? Or will it be just a waste of time and it would be better if I just go a couple days early. Thanks!

If your schedule permits- I would go the weekend prior to the opener. Not a ton of sense scouting now unless it is about the terrain and being familiar with the area more than trying to locate game.

Last year I had a nice buck all figured it out. Day before the season sheep were brought in. Never saw that buck again. Point being with short scouting time, I would spend my time looking terrain and as many possible places that may hold deer and not focus on one spot.
