Fishing Near Fairplay

Will be camping with the family this coming weekend near Fairplay. I personally have never been in this area. Two or three of our family will be hiking a couple 14ers. I'm going up Thursday Morning to set up camp with the rest of the crew arriving Friday afternoon. I will be solo to do some fishing Thursday afternoon and Friday morning/afternoon and would love any direction on where to fish. I am up to hiking into a lake, fishing a stream, etc. I mess with fly fishing and can cast a rod, either works. On Saturday and Sunday Morning, would love to find a place to take my 3 and 4 year old granddaughters fishing. Some place where they may see some action. Thank you in advance, feel free to PM
Lots of fishing around that area.
There are lots of little Brookie streams all over and several stream access points on the south Platte that can turn up nice browns or rainbows. The bigger lakes have some very nice fish - Antero, Spinney, and Elevenmile - but you would do better in a boat this time of year. There are a few high lakes off Mosquito Pass that can be fun as well.
Have fun!
Good luck!
I did Quandary a few weeks back and there is a lake at the bottom called Blue Lake. I didnt get a chance to fish it but looked nice. Treeline's recommendations are also good.
Just something to consider... do the fish a favor and stick to lakes if you can. The streams in South Park are at extremely low levels and warm. The additional stress of hooking and fighting these fish will highly increase their mortality right now. CPW is also asking fishers to limit time on many waters to early morning if at all...
Definitely warm water can impact fish survival on the lower elevation wide open streams.
Also on the lower lakes as the surface temps are going to be stressful on the fish. I would guess that fish mortality on released fish in the bigger lakes is higher this time of year.
The more wooded /willow shaded streams up close to treeline should be ok.
It will help to use barbless hooks for releasing fish.
My grandson caught a 26" rainbow from spinney last week on a daredevil fishing from shore. His buddys caught a 22" and 23"
