Perry needs some encouragement so that he is able to pull back his compound bow at a measley 62 pounds by the time the season gets here. LOL. Dig deep buddy!
Talk about a total SHOCK!!!!!!! I went out the other day to shoot a few arrows and could not pull my bow back! Tried it 4 times and NO GO! : (
I knew I lost 25 lbs thru this ordeal and have been obviously very inactive, but I didn’t realize how much upper body strength I have lost!
Gonna start shooting the recurve and hitting the weights to start building myself back up.
Joe has a crossbow you can use.
Yeah, that WOULD be a lot easier.......................
You don't need to bedrawing 62 lbs judt to kill a deer or a bear. Something in 40's is more than enough.
I know Bob, but I hate messin’ with my setup once I got it all dialed in! ;-)
Dialed in? What's it got knobs and dials and gauges on it?
Sounds like ah TV antenna?:)
Drop the weight Perry. Try 50 lbs.
I really don’t want to drop the weight since I am shooting mechanicals. Gonna try building the strength back first.
It's pretty easy to buy three fixed blade broadheads. Heck PM me your address and I'll send you some.
Thanks Phil- I’m stubborn! I want to try to get back to my current setup. If it looks like that will not happen, I’ll call ya! ;-)
Mechanicals too? Jesus H boy.. Just put a stock and scope on it and be done with it. Yer already pulling a trigger there rim fire:)
I still have to DRAW the bow Roy! That makes ALL the difference!(as I am finding out! ;-)
I know where you're coming from. I missed two archery seasons during my Lyme battle. I was so weak. During season 1, I had turned the corner but couldn't even get my wife's longbow strung. During season 2, I thought i was ready, maybe, but just had to get out to the fall woods. I went hunting, had a lone doe come by close, and when i tried to draw on her, almost yelled from the pain when I hit anchor, so didn't shoot. I went home and stayed home, decided I'd just wait, heal, and work until I was able to shoot strong and proper, no matter how long it took. I was shooting my 64 lb selfbow in time for the next season. Hunting with a crossbow or compound, or even a lighter weight recurve or longbow didn't interest me. Getting back to shooting MY bow was a benchmark of my recovery that I needed to reach... for me.
I've had some health issues and ended up buying a Hoyt compound. It's set up a little over 40 pounds and I've killed two deer with it. Plenty of zip and shoots flat out to 25 yards. I use Muzzy heads and no problem with penetration. I'm using a 38 pound hybrid longbow this year and it's shooting better than some of my bows that are heavier. I have to pull hard to get my arrows out of my 3D target. I only shoot 20 yards when Deer hunting and both of those bows will kill anything I'm hunting.
Good luck with your recovery. If you need a light weight recurve I have a 50 pound Bear Black Bear that ain't real pretty but it's a shooter. Say the word and I'll send it to you.

That’s exactly where I am now Jeff!
Will- thanks for the offer, but I have a 45 lb recurve.
Mike- way ahead of you! ;-)
Went out tonight and ALMOST got to full draw!(3 times) Was 1” shy of “rollover”- I’ll get there! : )
yea, just keep pulling your strength will come back quicker than you think, and eat some wheaties
Thanks Mike! Appetite is getting better. Up 3 lbs so far.
Is that: “Eat more watermelon, boy.”
Or- “Eat more..................watermelon boy.” ;-)
LOL! : )
Got good news at my follow up today! I got clearance to start PT, start driving and can go back to work in a couple weeks. Toxicologist said I am progressing as expected. He said it will probably be several more months until everything is back to “normal”, but that I should have no permanent damage. Just what I was hoping to hear!
Thanks for all the prayers folks! They work! : )
geez, it's only 62#... my grandson can pull that back. Put the dang remote down and get outta that dang easy chair, that's what's doing it.
LOL! Yeah, as soon as it stops raining! ;-)
Scared yer wheels and cables will rust?:)
Perry, you have to have some thick skin to hang around here, I'm surprised that snake made it through:)
LOL! I just IGNORE Roy after awhile! ;-)
that Roy is nothing but trouble... :^)
..............with a capital “T”! ;-)
Well, it took me 3 tries, but....................SUCCESS! ;-)
that's what eating all that watermelon will do for you
Thanks guys! NO crossbow for THIS guy! ;-)
Watermelon is the new spinach Mike! : )
That's good. I can see you out there, take a shot... look around for snakes... take a shot... look around for snakes... take a shot... look around for snakes...
Atta boy.. ^5
Nice 5 yard group:)
Yeah, my neck is a little sore this morning Spider! ;-)
Imagine how that snake feels?
Well, I got my Rocky snake boots yesterday. Now I can go back in the woods w/out being a nervous wreck! ;-)
"Well, it took me 3 tries, but....................SUCCESS! ;-)"
Ahhh.... the motto of the trad guys. ;)
Glad to see your recovery is going well, Rut.
Perry, ya otta send the receipt into the insurance company to see if they will pay up... Could save them a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$.. :)
LOL guys! : )
Thanks Bowbender!
I was up stumping in snake territory. After reading your ordeal I had one eye on stumps and the other on snakes. How far along are you in your recovery?
That’s good Jeff! Watch out for them!
I still have swelling around the ankle and tendons are still tight and sore, however the strength is improving with PT. Still using compression sleeve for swelling and can’t flex ankle or big toe much. In this pic I am trying to curl my toes and flex ankle- that’s all I got! ;-)
But last week was my first week back to work and walking without a cane(Praise God! ;-) Swelling increases the more I am on my feet so I try to elevate the leg at lunchtime and when I get home. Also very stiff after sitting for more than 10 min or so, but at least I am getting around better!
And this is Sept 11th. When did you get bit? It'll be interesting to know how long until you get back to feeling 100%.
Found it on the other thread... July 19th. So almost 2 months so far... and still kinda gimped up. That's some powerful juice they carry around.
Keep up the positive attitude, how is the shooting going? I hope you get something you deserve it!
Jeff- Thursday will be 8 weeks. That “juice” is amazingly toxic! Never dreamed it would affect the tendons like it did!
But like a good Bowhunter, I have been adapting. Got the climber out to see if I could use it. It wasn’t pretty, but I managed to get up to height. I think the stiffness of the snakeboots actually helped work the stirups.
Shooting is going well, but still feel a little weak. Still can’t pull the bow more than 5-6 times, then get fatigued. But chances are I’ll only need to pull it once or twice! ;-)
Keep pushing. When I had my hip replacement last September I had to hunt from my ground blind for a week but I was climbing by the 2nd week
Sounds like you're on the right track Perry. Just stay well within your capabilities so your efforts in the woods won't lead to another incident. Be objective and safe... and have fun.
Looks to me like ya otta be mowing that grass:)
Thanks Kevin- will do!
Jeff- that’s the plan- take my time and be careful climbing. Once I am on level ground I am fine- so as long as I get the base level I am good. If not I will climb back down and level the base. Not gonna take any chances.
Roy- if it bothers you that much, drive on out and you can cut it for me! ;-)
Your old spot has a rub going on already.
He prolly rubs his old spot a lot:)
Oh Lord................................
