Well I did try to search online under regs. It is to late to call Pratt. So what the heck figured I would ask here. Is it legal to hunt deer from a Kayak as long as you have legal right to be on the water and permission from both sides of the river?

Are you catching them swimming across the river LOL

Could be wrong but I believe you can shoot from a craft that is not under power.

The river area I have lots of access to has a bunch of sandbar islands.

Might be tough to shoot with a life jacket on.

As far as I can tell it is as long as you are not under power. I think it would be a great way to hunt but I just can not shoot my long bow sitting in my kayak and if I stand I tip over.

Is there a river in Kansas, at “NORMAL” water level, and flow rate, that you would need to wear your life jacket? JUST A JOKE, before anyone gets in an uproar. Lol

What's a life jacket when you have a pfd. The crossbow will be cocked and ready...

Matt - as far as access, shouldn’t be a problem. As far as shooting from, it could be. Deer are not waterfowl, which have their own regs as per “shooting from.” I asked about squirrels one time and was told technically. no because the canoe is a vehicle.

Wow this crowd is getting better. The cocked crossbow was a joke and nobody slammed me. Thanks Writer on the tip. I came across a great deal at Academy and was able to buy three great Kayaks and save a $1000. Now I just want to get good use out of them. I always see deer and on the river and just want to try if legal.

Not sure if it equates or not, but when I asked about using a bicycle to get further into a large Wildlife Area, I was told that is legal so long as I am not brandishing my bow or rifle while on the bicycle.

that would be pretty cool... brandishing a bow while riding a bicycle

Is it a "navigable waterway"? Sometimes those are treated like roads, so shooting from or across them is not legal for safety reasons.

You can shoot from a navigable river, waterfowl hunters do it a lot.

I don't believe you can shoot a deer that is swimming though, we cannot in NY. Shawn

I've been using my boat the last few years to hunt deer on a big river in Greenwood County. Used my canoe to get close to a turkey area in Butler Co. when I would encounter deer, they let me get very close in the canoe
