I have read that it is a requirement now to have elk meat or deer meat checked in CPW area. I am going to go for elk, deer and bear next weak and hopefully will get whatever God sends to me. If I am going to harvest some animals or an animal do I need the meat tested right away or I can do it later. When we drive home from our hunting spot we drive by a CPW office. Would it be better to just stop and have the meat tested? How long does it take so that they test the meat?

I’m pretty certain it’s a gland test. They take the glad from the skull, no actual meat is tested. Timeline, I’m uncertain of.

Yes, it's a gland they want at the base of the neck. It's the head you need to bring them not the meat.

There are no requirements for mandatory testing for archery hunt codes, only for selected rifle codes that are highlighted in green

Oh ok, I still want to have the meat tested, you just never know. Especially bear because I have heard that they can have some diseases that are quite rough.

You have way more to worry about from the beef you eat than the deer or elk you eat and it's not tested. The bears will have diseases, that's a given, you just have to cook it thoroughly!

The testIng is for CWD. They don’t test bear for CWD. If you kill a bear you are required to have it inspected and tooth removed..
