Targeting a small buck

So I am getting married next year. I recently found out that there are places that you can send your own antler to and they will create a custom wedding ring for you. Its the same cost of getting a normal ring too since you are supplying your own antler. But now I'm thinking, if I shoot a big one, there's no way I'm cutting the antlers off haha. Which puts me in a predicament. I guess I need to specifically shoot a smaller buck that I don't mind cutting the antlers off. Kind of a weird situation but I would love to have an antler ring made from a deer I shot myself. Anyone ever get one of these made? If so, who did you use to do it?
Probably won’t hold up very well for everyday use.

Agree. I would think It would break a some point. Why not find a shed rather than kill a small buck just for that.
Have any sheds laying around or know someone who does?
Maybe you'll get lucky and a small buck is all you'll see this year. ;)
My wife found a guy on etsy to make mine. She sent him a shed I found and we had the ring like a month or so later. The top portion is the antler, bottom is cherry wood and its laid on top of sterling silver. All I can say is if you found a woman who will let you wear an antler wedding ring, you have got yourself a keeper! I'll see if she still has the guys info.
That is sweet. Yes please send me the info. Its not just exposed bare antler becuase yes that wouldnt last. It gets coated, sealed, etc. so it will last forever. There are many different ways to incorporate antler into a ring.
And i have to laugh at the shed comments. I will never get married if i have to wait to find a shed antler! I will kill 5 bucks before i find the next shed. I swear i am cursed in shed hunting. And its not for lack of trying and going to what are supposed to be the right spots.
HFSC - that, is amazing! WOW.
BWB - do you have any Sheds? That was my first thought reading this. I mean, I dont have any issue with shooting a small deer, but if you dont want to, a shed would be great. For something this cool, I'd sacrifice a small bit of shed if you need some. Probably cooler if you use one you found or killed though... But the offer is out there if need be, ok.
I got a shed u can have if u need one but you gotta come by my house!
That ring is cool looking! Could you please post a website where we could go on and look over his work
Sounds fishy. How do you know its the one you sent? why would the ring maker need so much to work with or do you send a slice?
That is incredibly generous guys. I would rather have it be something I found or killed though. The only sheds I have found are pretty chewed up. Maybe I will just make it a sole mission this winter/spring to find a shed. One of my goals this "season" is to do some serious scouting starting January 1st and this could motivate me to actually follow through with that unlike previous years.
Sounds great BWB. For sure, it will be really cool to have it be something you found or killed!
Sorry for the delay guys, been crazy busy. So, she ordered from a business on etsy called RingsDepot. He's got a large selection of rings that he always has on hand, presumably using farm raised antlers or local sheds. On his page there is a tab to request a custom order, which is what my wife did.
PI, to answer your question, I have no proof that it is the antler my wife sent. All I know is that it looks cool and it was wayyyyyy cheaper than the ring I bought my wife, which is all I cared about, haha!
Hunts- It does look great too. Sorry if it sounded pissy. I was thinking that if it only takes a small segment of the antler to make the ring, then the rest must be used for dog treats or something else like carving or knife handles. Some kind of Side business.
I'm sure the savings will go to good (hunting) use. Win win win situation.
Bigwoods, I went my whole life without finding a MA shed then last year found two for the first time! In VA I literally stepped out of my truck and looked down and found one. Little different down there. Joe, nice ring I will see what the wife says about that she may go for it.
Pi, didn't sound pissy at all man. Your point is a valid one.
Keep trying to kill a small buck. Because, you know how when you try to kill a big buck all you see is little ones? Well, if all you do is look for a little guy you'll probably be surrounded by giants!
