Someone wondered earlier on another thread about how it was nearly impossible to tell where WVU would be ranked. Same for DNR survey. Here is my prediction for WV for week 3. WV football team 14. WV buck limit for 2018: 3. WV buck limit for 2019 : 3. Let's see how I do. ??

From: M.P.
09-Sep-18
At least the football team changes things when its not working. Our Dnr runs the same plays hoping it will work next time and that results in losing seasons. Revenue, licence sales and the such.

I figure your predictions are accurate

Well I am sure you got buck limit right , you could go a few more years on that prediction

Lol. Will update that part of the prediction next year. That's why I wonder about all the fuss about the survey.

From: JayD
09-Sep-18
JR I don’t think the survey actually caused a huge fuss itself - yea there were some who thought it could have be done online to save time and money and we thought you would get more participation with it that way. I think the fuss came when we told the process was fixed from the beginning, rigged, the deck was stacked and we were told it was an inside job and people should be held accountable. I think those types of accusations made public - will stir most people up. Wasn’t WVU ranked 14th this week? Did you go squirrel hunting? I think the squirrels around my area of the woods are start to grow fins and gills!

WV was. 14. I think they will stay there. Did not go to the Mtn but am heading up there on Wednesday to get my Treestands ready.,

From: Babysaph
10-Sep-18
WV still ranked 14 but I have not heard if the buck limit has been reduced yet from 3 this year or next. I would say that this year is out of the question since bow season is rapidly approaching.

From: Babysaph
23-Sep-18
I think everything will stay the same this week.

24-Sep-18
Everyone seems content with the performance. I see hope. I still see a lot of fundamental breakdowns as well.

As usual, the defense is coming on nicely. But, we have a problem stopping a true running attack. And, if our offense doesn’t execute better, that is gonna get us later on. Like it has for Holgerson’s whole tenure.

We will likely move up one or two places.

From: Babysaph
24-Sep-18
Turnovers. Had 3 or we would have scored over 50. Can't do that at TT

27-Sep-18
Nope. TT is very likely to get their revenge this year

What’s ur prediction for Grier next week? I was there yesterday - wow did he have his worse game ever. Let’s hope it’s out of his system! Oh I was planning my hunting strategy for next weekend at halftime - so now it’s a hunting post! LOL

WVU is soft. If we don't execute better, we are going to loose at least two, maybe three conference games. Not being a wind drag but, the truth is the truth. We haven't finished a game since the Clemson bowl game.

Change is coming!

From: Babysaph
10-Oct-18
I agree. But we didnt even finish that game. we could have scored 100. we took our foot off the gas.

11-Oct-18
The way we look now, there’s no way we’re beating Texas or Oklahoma. Better be sharp Saturday, Iowa St looks better every week.

13-Oct-18
Well, Iowa state took our soft, candy butts behind the wood shed, pulled our pants down, whooped our rear ends, and made us like it. They aren't going to be the only ones either.

It gets frustrating year after year to watch the one tracked Holgerson do the same things. The blue print to beat WV since he became coach has been to run the football well enough to be balanced on offensive. And, to pressure his pretty boy quarterbacks on defense.

How many times did we actually run a two back formation? Or a tight end set? He is so predictable that every time we have and will play a talented smash mouth team, we get our butts handed to us. I'd love to see him hit the road. Be the best thing for us. You can't do this in any conference today and expect to win. You can't win against the big twelve teams worth their salt without running the dang football.

From: Babysaph
14-Oct-18
I totally agree with you Mtneer. Time for him to go.,

From: JayD

How far will they fall JR? My guess is back to 12.

From: Babysaph
14-Oct-18
I thought they would fall further but it looks like 13th.

From: Jim Casto Jr
14-Oct-18
I'm not fond of the the guy either, but WVU has had one losing season under Holgorsen. I'm thinking with the competition they're playing, that ain't too bad.

14-Oct-18
The Big 12 is tough. No doubt. However, what is tougher is to watch his Mickey Mouse game plan. What beats every team is the same thing that beats us. So, it only makes sense to me that in order to consistently win the Big 12 conference match ups, would mean developing a running attack and, using it. Just ask Iowa State. It ain't rocket science but, it sure evades the guy. They dang near rushed the ball for more yards then we had total.

People always say you gotta score a bunch of points to win a big 12 match up. It sure helps. But, if you run a 3 or 4 wideout set every time, you aren't fooling anyone. Nor are you going to have a great running attack. You have to keep the secondary honest. They brought the heat repeatedly because we never slipped a tight end or second back behind the linebackers.

From: Babysaph
14-Oct-18
Yea all I heard about all summer was how we were going to use our tight ends. But Jimmy is right.

15-Oct-18
We have a average of finishing dead center in the big 12. Middle of the pack since 2012. Our best was a 3rd, a 6th, two 5th’s, and a 7th in conference ranking. I’m not sure those are the results Oliver Luck was looking for. Nor any other WVU fan. One year we’ve broke the number 5 spot in a ten team conference. That’s mediocre in my opinion.

From: hoppies56
15-Oct-18
This season is not over yet , lot of football to be played . Dont be so Negative. It is not like there are top notch coaches beating down the door to coach in Morgantown Maybe Wv Mountaineer would like the job he seems to be a football coach . lol As far as Big 12 is concerned i would rather be in middle of that conference than to go back to playing teams in American Conference.

From: Babysaph
15-Oct-18
I agree Hoppie. We make much more money. If fact we get the same at the first place team. I remember when we couldn't beat Penn State. We have come a long way and we get spoiled. I don't think we would have trouble getting a good coach just because we are in the Big 12. It is just disappointing because it was all lined up for us. But the season is not over. We can still win the Big 12. We have to finally beat OK. We have never beat them since we have been in the league. It is tough to be mountaineer fan.

From: hoppies56
15-Oct-18
Babysaph , I hope we cant turn this thing around, I thought this could be the year for us , and should be with our offense , I will agree some of play calling was a little suspect against Iowa St , We must find a way to run the ball i really think it hurt us not having Leddie Brown, I know Greir was under pressure most of game and didnt have much time but he needs to throw the ball away sometimes. Some of that blame should be on QB coach . That game is behind us now , I say LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS !!

15-Oct-18
hoppie, I'm quit positive there are many much more qualified then the results Holgerson has produced as his resume. Could I do it? Maybe. What isn't debatable is the stats that proves his failure. I know stats don't mean much to you. You ignore them at your convenience. This being no different. But, to those set on getting it right and, being as effective as possible, they have a place.

You are right, the season is not over. But, reality says if he does what he always has, it is decided we will finish well back into the conference rankings. Like I said, statistics and trends seem to matter not with you. So, I'll take your advice and let time determine the results. I'll openly eat crow once the season works through and, the rankings are done, if I a proven wrong. How bout you?

WV Mountaineer , I am true fan of OLD GOLD AND BLUE . I stand behind my team win or lose. The goal of winning big 12 is still in sight and i think we still have a shot , but if wv doesnt win the big 12 . I am not going to criticize the coaching staff and claim to know more than these men who have been coaching most of their adult life . It really gets to me when people think they can coach football when they really wouldnt know how to beat a cover 2, man under defense or know the difference between gap and zone blocking schemes .

From: hoppies56
16-Oct-18
wv mountaineer, HOW MANY YEARS YOU BEEN COACHING FOOTBALL ? OR EVEN PLAYED DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL ?

From: Babysaph
16-Oct-18
I'll agree with that Hoppie. I have been critical of Holgetson myself. I don't know anything about coaching football for sure. I do know that we have one of the most talented teams ever. Unfortunately the coach usually gets the blame for the losses. Just look at the Nebraska coach. Six weeks ago he was the best thing sinces sliced bread now they think he can't coach. Just comes with the territory

16-Oct-18
Hoppie, I do not coach division one football. Nor have I played it in division one. But, I do understand it. I know the fundamental principals. Like I said, it’s not rocket science. It’s execution of fundamentals. That is all football is.

With that said, I hate it’s come to this. But, I’m a give what you get kind of guy. So, I don’t know what to say if being critical of the results WVU produces, irritates you. Other then live with it.

I made you a gaurantee about eating crow if I’m wrong. I’ll openly say so. It’s all I can do to prove I’m convicted in my beliefs and, have history to prove they aren’t misplaced. I like hope as much as anyone. But, I’m tired of my hope being squashed.

J.R., I agree the coaching staff catches the flack. But, a couple things stick out here. First being when the team doesn’t perform well, Holgerson is real quick to blame the players. If that’s deserved, who is to blame? He’s recruited and coached them. So, where does the responsibility truly lie?

Second, people want to blame quarterbacks for bad games, interceptions, etc.... mistakes happen no doubt. But, when your only cards are the same old formations and handful of routes from those formations, you really can’t expect by game six of the season, for your opponents to not be ready for you.

Grier has three some interceptions this year. My only critique is what do you expect? They know he’s going to throw. And, it really isn’t a question what routes are going to be run. I expect the best nfl quarterback would have less then stellar games under the same circumstances if he were to be in the same situation.

By this time in every season, we no longer posses the element of surprise or a diverse attack. When we’ve had good running ability, we don’t use. How can a guy average 7 yards per carry and only touch the ball 6-7 times a game? Because Holgerson never forced the defense to be honest. That’s why. There is no way in division one footbal are you going to be a consistent winner without rushing the ball Effectively. Period.

From: hoppies56
16-Oct-18
WV Mountaineer, First off , I have never heard Dana blame players , he completely took blame for Iowa St loss as he should have . I think Greir has 7 int on the season , 3 of which came in 1 game where he threw in double coverage . How quick we forget 2 years ago wv football was 7- 2 in conference , 10 -3 . I ask you have you ever coached any kind of football at any level. I am sure of this the coaching staff at wv has forgot more about coaching than most of us will ever know about the game . It is easy to set back and say run this play or throw the ball here if you dont know anything about the flow of the game or what defense scheme the opposing team is running, like i said, that game has past lets move on . Lets go Mountaineers !!

16-Oct-18
I'm going to clarify a couple things and then take your advice of letting the season work through.

I misread. Or, you edited your post. I really not sure which because I read early on but, didn't have time to post. And, don't believe I would have missed that question in bold type. No, I have never coached football. I played through high school until my third ACL surgery. So, you can repeatedly keep saying I don't understand scheme's, can't relate to the flow of the game, etc... during your posts. It sure doesn't make it true. I'm a student of it. I loved/love it.

My initial reaction was to ask you the same in return. But, it really had no bearing other then to return the same smear and discredit attempt you employed. I'm better then that. And, smart enough to know one's opinion of performance doesn't require a pedigree of trench war fare in order to express it.

Second, I didn't listen to Holgerson's speech this week. I quit doing that when he blamed Geno Smith for losing. If you don't remember that, I really don't know what to say. I heard and watched with it my own ears and eyes.

To clarify, I'm not upset with the coaching staff. I never said I was. I'm upset with the head coach's repetitive approach that leads to repetitive failure in key games. And, I didn't forget the 10-3 season. I plainly said we finished 3RD.

You haven't said move on yet until now. Only you are a fan and take issue with anyone that doesn't hold the same optimism as you. I too am a fan. A graduate of WVU. Both of which just wants to perform to potential. I'm tired of losing games we should win. Rarely in any year, have we been out classed in talent. Yet we can't bat a better average then 500% in conference rankings. There are reasons for that.

One more thing, Morgantown WV is not a bad place to get coaching. It was routinely rated as the best or, one of the best small towns in America. That old line don't fly.

I'll take your advice and let it play out. And see where we are at.

03-Nov-18
Isn't it absolutely amazing what happens when Holgerson commits to running the football.

From: Babysaph
03-Nov-18
And I give him credit for for two. Our defense couldn't sop them and he knew that., we had nothing to lose. We put the pressure on them. Now if we do t lay an egg we will be playing for the championship day after Thanksgiving.,

03-Nov-18
Yes, I'd been fine no mater how the point conversion went. Because he gave us a chance to win with some great coaching. We went into Iowa State averaging almost 7 yards per carry. Why he didn't use that is beyond me. But, it has been his history time and again to go away from our running game. And it always has cost us.

The last two games we have used both the running game and the TIGHT END It is so important to use both in order to open up and keep open, the the explosive passing attack we have. If he continues to coach like this, we will be in the Big 12 Championship. It just nice to see potential maximized.

Texas is one tough team. We proved we are too. We simply can beat anyone if we commit to running the football enough to keep the defense honest. Instead of teeing off on the quarterback like teams do when we don't commit to running the ball. We looked really good tonight. Keep it up COACH

From: hoppies56

hoppies56's Link
When we win we have a great coach lose and man doesnt know anything about football. , Players play and coaches coach, Pettaway ran 9 times at Iowa state for 55 yards, 9 times vs Texas for 121 yards WHAT CHANGED , the big difference in two games was line blocking giving Grier more time to throw the ball and run blocking and poor tackling by Texas.

04-Nov-18
SMH. Which one is it hoppie? Flow of the game or execution?

I wander if the players just wanted to win more last night then they did Playing Iowa State? Or, were they put into a position to be successful when it counted? Players have no doubt got to play. But, coaches have got to put them in the position to succeed. I don't know why you'd suggest otherwise after saying Holgerson took full credit for the loss against Iowa State.

Grow up man. I'm every bit of the fan you are. We won yesterday because we run the ball when we needed to run the ball. We run the ball well at those times because we committed to sticking with it when appropriate, even though we trailed the whole game nearly. Its amazing how well it works when you do that. It was a perfectly coached game. How else does Jennings gets behind the Defensive backs with 23 seconds left?

I got news for you hobbie, running a single back with no tight ends is suicidal if its the prominent formation you run. Iowa State proved that. It appears Holgerson is back to understanding that for now.

With FL and KY losing, WVU will have to move up at least two spots.

From: Babysaph
04-Nov-18
We also need to run north and south. When we lollygag trying to run down the line we don't do as well. Our line is not very good and I would think in that case running right at them would be easier. And I agree Jummy. I saw where ESPn has us 8. But they don't count. Lol. We can't get in the championship game but we can get a New Years six game. Not too bad for holgersons hillbillies. That is what the sign said yesterday at the game.

04-Nov-18
hoppie, pay attention to whats been written. The assumptions you are trying to prove have been written out well before you bring them up. Also, remember while we may never agree on how well Holgerson has performed as routine, it doesn't mean we shouldn't disagree honorably.

From: hoppies56
04-Nov-18
I am sure Dana and his staff have forgot more about the game of football than you or i will ever know , That is one reason i cant take Sunday morning coaches like yourself who think they know more about the game than men who have done this most of their life . That is why i dont or wont criticize them win or lose.

05-Nov-18
I agree, if history repeats itself, Dana will no doubt forget what it takes to beat one our next two opponents. If not both of them.

And, right back at you on the feelings of people like you. I have no room in my life for apathy concerning WVU’s potential at winning football games

From: Jim Casto Jr
11-Nov-18

12-Nov-18
Be tough OSU at their place but we can beat them but dont think we have the team to beat OKLA , i think they are just better. i will be pulling for Dana and our guys win or lose , LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS

From: Babysaph
12-Nov-18
I think we will beat OK st and Ok once. we need IS to get beat by Texas to get in big 12 championship game unless we win out.

12-Nov-18
We run the ball 40 times for a 4.1 average. We passed 39 times. If we are going to beat both Oklahoma’s we’d better do the same thing.

We put up nearly 50 points while controlling tempo and most importantly, Time is possession. The OU offense is potent. That quarterback scares the heck out of me. Keep him on the sideline, while also scoring is the key.

If we can get them behind, or defense and special teams will contribute with points as well. Just like they did with TCU.

I think we beat them both. If so, we gotta beat OU again in the championship game. That’s where it gets tricky. Beating OU twice. Back to back is a big mountain to climb.
