I just attached a suspension relief strap, a folding tree step and a whistle to the shoulder straps on my safety harness.
Told my buddies if they hear a loud, shrill whistle, ignore that Pope & Young 14 pointer in front of them and come help get my sorry butt out of a tree. While I'm waiting on them, I'll use the other two items.
I Always have relief strap,. It is lite.

Damn phone,..
I mean i am emphasizing this point! Lol
Wow. Never thought of a whistle. Darn good idea. I gotta pick one up this weekend. I'll bite, what's a suspension relief strap?
Here's a link... good explanation and some videos.

Jimbo, I'm trying to envision how those things fit on your safety harness without getting in the way. It sure sounds like a GREAT way to make sure you always have them! Could you snap a pic of the harness set up? Thanks!

Will, I'll take a photo in the morning and post it.
Suspension relief device is used to prevent suspension trauma cause by lack of blood flow back to your heart. This is a death sentence.
The strap allows you to step into a loop and minimize pressure in the thighs. Another reason why a tree saddle is the best choice. Light, quiet and intended to support you all day long hanging - no suspension trauma.
Here’s a photo... suspension relief strap is on the right shoulder strap (left side in the photo) and the whistle and treestep are on the left shoulder strap. They’re held in place by a thin strip of black Gorilla tape (with a fold-over tag end to make it easy to remove the tape).
On my whistle is a compass and the back has a thermometer,.. always fun to see what is the lowest low I can take,.. and for how long!

Compass: Hey all I am looking into purchasing a couple of new compass'. I will be doing some tracking in North Woods in November and I really should have a better one than the little one in my pack anyway. I was looking at the Suunto A-10. Anyone have thoughts on this or recommend s better one ?
B and S, I've got nothing on compasses. I've had the same one for about 15 years, it looks like that one, but honestly I dont know the brand. It's held up great.
That's slick Jimbo. I'm going to look at how to make that happen. Thanks for the ideas!

BandS...thats an orienteering compass, unless you are plotting a course on a topo map and following it...its a bit much for a small woodlot, need to get out to a road kinda survival compass.
but if you're hunting large timber tracts it may be helpful to have an orienteering compass and a topo. but then you also should learn how to orient yourself. check out the book in the link called 'Staying Found'
B. Bowman, I was picking up some supplies at the store today and found that same whistle!!
I always have a whistle when I'm kayaking or hiking but for some reason never brought one to my treestand.
I carry a suspension relief strap in the cargo pocket of my pants. Always with me and easily reachable if I need it. My new summit climber came with a harness that has one already attached to the belt.
Thanks Hick, you are probably right on too much. I think I found simple setup . BB thanks but I have a small attention span, that one has way too many fidgets. I'm not a smart man Jenny.
All good stuff. A whistle wouldn’t help me however. 90% of the time I hunt alone. Probably not the best idea but because of work schedules etc, most of my local hunts are solo.
Same here Brian but I got figure if I had a fall and was hurt bad enuff to not get out under my power someone blowing a whistle in woods nonstop is going draw attention
I dont have one, but I'm going to add it I think (a whistle). Even if you are on the ground or lost or just cant get out, heck, are stuck in the tree... at least searchers could hear the whistle. Or I'd feel better thinking I was doing something to help the cause...
Yup, it's been proven time and again that whistles save lives. I've got a pocket compass/whistle in my pack. I've watched enough 'I shouldn't be alive' type shows where lost/injured try to call out to rescuers to just have them walk on by.
I also carry a Ferro rod and can make a signal fire out if just about everything.
I have a small skinny fluty whistle on a lanyard on my hss vest,on my back pack,on my waders next to my knife, on my keychain..if anything I can keep myself amused wondering in circles..lol
