Hello everyone! My father and I want to buy walkie talkies that are actually good and have an earpiece that can be attached. We found some "good ones" but the reviews were horrible. Any recommendations?

Garmin Rinos are nice in that they are also a GPS and send your location to your hunting partner so you know where each other is.

So normal firs radios don't reach very far. Search "Baofeng" radios. They come with some extra rules to be 100% compliant. They are inexpensive and popular. Can't say how many folks follow all the rules.
The BCA BC Link radios are frs and popular with snowmobilers. Stouter than many regular ones and work well.

We use two tin cans with a string attaching them.

I would suggest reading the regs carefully, and hope the local Wildlife Manager agrees with your interpretation, before using electronic communication devices while hunting. Aside from that, I love Walkie Talkies while traveling. You never have to worry about cell reception.

Where are you looking? A quick search on Amazon shows me numerous radios with 4/5 star reviews and a range up to 35 miles. From my experience those will work just fine. For the record, I have a Garmin Rino which has a range of ~14 miles, it has worked great for me. Radios work on line of sight though, so if your buddy is on the other side of a ridge but only 100 yards away he won't hear you no matter what radio you have.
