Snow flurries are expected today up on the mountain:) hows the activity? Seems like bucks are becoming more aggressive.
Watched a BIG buck make a scrape, thrash the heck out of some saplings, than make a rub on a larger tree.... definitely getting more aggressive. Good luck folks!!
Well I didn't tote a bow today but I did forget my chair for the blind so I uh....laid on the 37 degree cold wet ground..... Pokin my head up like a groundhog lol sure was nice to see some snow floatin down!
Dale Hajas: Human Whack-A-Mole!
I played with a group of deer, including a small buck, this afternoon. At one point I got to about 40yd. Swirling wind got me.
Longbow, on foot, deer got the advantage. Doesn't get much harder or more satisfying. :)
Don't you just loooove wearing that stinkin orange in bow season! I'm still ticked about the gun intrusions!
(See, I was good and didn't even mention X-guns)
Chise and I hunted at the farm in the afternoon. I saw 3 bucks and 3 does. All came into an open field from opposite sides and the bucks were more interested in eating than chasing. Had to wait an extra half hour before climbing down.
Expected to see many deer from the weather change, seen a doe AM and a deer PM. Swirling winds didn't help much. Still a blessing to be out and weather wise it was a cold rain until about two pm.
Saturday Night...My good buddy put down a COW sized doe in the Hershey Area last night with his in-line. Perfect double lung shot easy blood track and doe was found about 70 yards from where he shot it. I was with my 10 year old daughter in a ground blind across town. She had her Mentored Youth tag and her crossbow. We had a fawn come in at 10 yards and then a BIG momma doe ato about 40, so we at least had some excitement and after the fawn walked by she said...I didn't realize one year old fawns were so big. Her excitement was amazing. Then when my buddy texted me she said she wanted to see the blood trail and so she got to be a full participant in a blood track, find, tag, drag, and field dress. She thanked me about 100 times for taking her. I also thanked her for coming. My absolute favorite day hunting so far in my life...and I didn't shoot a thing or see a buck, but spent some quality time with my best hunting buddy! Thank You Lord for my blessed life!
We haven't been seeing any deer on the farm we hunt in Bucks County. now we know why, at about 10 after 8 yesterday morning 5 coyotes come up the hill and came past me. I killed the last one and about 25 yards. It was a male I guess it was 40 45 lb . I didn't have my phone which means I didn't have my camera with me. I left it for the buzzards.
Thanks bob congrats on the yote. Way to take one out
I’ve been helping a friend’s son with his passion for the outdoors for the past several years. He loves to hunt, fish, gather mushrooms and eat anything wild. He started with a crossbow as a mentored youth and took several deer with it but was anxious to switch to a bow and got a compound for Christmas last year. We got it all tuned up and dialed in and after lots of practice through the spring and summer he has become a great shot. This buck was the first deer to give him a good shot opportunity and he made a perfect shot at about 18 yards. Needless to say, he’s hooked.
Awesome! Tell him congrats....
Congrats, Andy! Looks like a freezer queen!!
Very cool, Steke! Give that young man a big congrats for me! Way to go, getting him hooked!! :-)
This guy was doing a little scraping this morning.
Way to go Andy. That's what its all about Steve. Good job. I still remember the guy I took on his first bow hunt who was just as hooked when he missed his first archery buck.
Congratuations on that great buck, Gene!
Congrats to everyone so far. Got this doe Friday night. Excellent video of the whole thing. Took the porcupine the first evening of the season.
Good job guys!
Steke- congrats on the mentoring! Love to hear these stories!
Saw 8 does last evening in a new spot where Perry's buck hit the ground last year. 2 this morning in the wind. Found 5 scrapes and the same number of rubs in a 100 yard line along an old logging road. Guess where a stand went up today? Pulled a camera card where I took my buck last year and it had a nice 8 point on it. I still have a few stands to hunt that have not been in yet. These first 3 weeks I consider scout hunting. I then spend the last 3 weeks wondering if I chose the wrong stand. LOL. Wondering if Perry will go where I tell him to go?

He doesn't go where Roy tells him. :)
Don't second guess yourself Art. You've done your homework now trust what you've done.
Yes- I never listen to Roy! But I’m gonna listen to Art this year! ;-)
Sam didya feed upon that porky? Ive heard theyre actually quite good tablefare! BTW- What bow you totin?
My son Matt shot his first archery buck tonight. Nice 5 point. We scouted the location in April. He picked the stand location, prepped it, been hitting this spot and a few others after school. When he called at 6:00pm I knew he shot something. He usually just texts what he's been seeing. Said he's pretty sure he just dropped a buck. Called back at 6:30 an said he found him. I couldn't be prouder of him. Passing the torch to the next generation.
That's awesome, Tom! Give Matt a big ol' congrats for me! He'll never forget his first archery buck, and there will be many more to come. That's a dandy!
Putting a day off school to good use, off to football practice this afternoon.
GREAT to see the young fellers being successful! Brought a BIG smile to my face! : )
(10/18/18) 2nd buck I seen chasing does this evening.
Congratulations to the successful hunters. Been watching little bucks making all kind of scrapes. But no doe chasing yet. The green briars have totally shut down one hunting area and wow the ticks when I tried.
It’s been real slow for me this year. I have yet to see a buck and have only seen a handful of doe the couple times I’ve been out. I sat down in the field last night watching multiple trails and seen 1 doe. I usually hit it hard the last 2 weeks because they are the best, so hopefully things pick up!
I exsanguinated a small 10 pt. on Friday about 9:15 am. I probably should have passed on him (est 2.5 yr old) but with trying to get the kids out this year, and with the buck deciding to hang around my stand at 20 yards for way too long, I gave in. 20 yd shot at a fairly hard qtr away. Double lunged w/o exit as I hit the far shoulder. He went 30 yds and fell over. I watched him go down. My son is excited to help me make some jerky. Really nice morning Friday.
Congratulations, Scott! Nice buck!
Congratulations to you as well, Justin! Didn't happen without a pic though! LOL! Seriously...if that small 10 was good enough to release an arrow into, it's a gift. Don't apologize for what the good Lord provides. Good to hear you're getting the kids involved, and hopefully the jerky turns out well!
Good job guys! Justin- don't apologize! I remember those years. (trying to get a deer quick so you could get back to more time spent with the little ones)
