Well I finally found someone with private land who is kind enough to let me hunt with him this Saturday. Don't judge me too much, but it's the opening day of rifle, coupled with my lack of practice with a bow, means my old 30/40 Krag with be back in service instead of my Bear. Still excited at the opportunity for a GA deer. There will be rain and 10+ degree temp drop. Perfect movement weather. Hopefully pics will follow.

Dude, a hunt is a hunt!! Wish you all the luck! Let us know how it goes!
I used to rifle hunt in CA and that place can really test your marksmanship. Nerves, early morning, the kick of a .308, a hunt is a hunt. Best of luck dude. Post picks, and general observations about GA.

Are the woods really thick in GA? I’ve hunted in Alabama for years, woods are pretty much impenetrable. Seems like it’s all food plots down there. They call them “green fields.”

I lived In GA for a couple years and Deer hunting is huge there. From hunting clubs to huge lease properties with huge food plots. Public hunting was only on huge Wma type properties. Campers lined the woods for miles for dove hunting on sundays even. The spiders are no joke. Walk into a web in the dark its no fun. Wild hogs and huge copper heads literally scare the crap out of me. Snake proof boots yup. A lot of the guys shot 30/30 s. For the real tight stuff it can be crazy thick. I bought a 30/06 to shoot the huge powerlines . your going to love it they know how make hunting fun and part of their lives. Everyone in family hunts even the ladies. And there’s Plenty of deer.

I will keep everyone posted. Thanks, Steveeg. Didn't think about snakes. With my gun and side arm (legal to carry with a CCP here) I'm not too worried about hogs. Should be a good day.

Good luck, Bruce. A few guys are looking there this year, but its large and has plenty of deer. Just follow the sign and season.

This is what happens with zero hunting pressure. He was only about 2yrs old. In a few years, damn. Walked up to him at 20yrds. No hunting on base!

I do a Texas hunt for the last 8 years a 2200 mile drive for 5 days of hunting, drinking beer and tell wat stories. Take the trip and have a great time.
We give prizes for different categories, last 3 years I’ve won longest shot one was just over 500 yards

Well the trusty 30/40 put three rounds in a dime at 50yrds. Good group at 100. Safe to say if I see a Georgia deer tomorrow, it will be on my table Sunday. Kinda weird rifle hunting. Been 6 years since I have. Thinking my bow skills will make the experience better. Fingers crossed, and hopefully pics to follow!

Saw what I think was a doe at 80yrds. Stops perfectly between two trees leaving the chest showing broadside. I couldn't tell if it was right behind the shoulder or not, so I passed. Damn ethics. Hopefully karma rewards me at sunset. In a great spot, so I'm still hopeful and excited.

Well if the wind had stopped half an hour earlier, it would have been perfect. Nothing killed today, but I had a good hunt, good company, and the hope for another hunt. Can't complain about that.

Smart choice - always better leaving things on the table... Sounds fun overall though. Any snakes seen?

Zero snakes. Only a few mosquitoes. No ticks either. Seems to be less of them here for some reason.

Another deer that I can't hunt on base. Not a care in the world. Hopefully I will be out again in a few weeks.
