I use wraps or tortillas for my sandwich "bread". As they pack nice and flat. Plenty of water, sliced apples. A few small candy bars. Always a few granola bars, and always a handful of Werther's hard candy.

A little trick an old timer duck hunter showed me 25yrs ago. On those bone chilling cold days boil bottle of gatorade and fill your thermos. This will help warm you, and more importantly, it will keep you hydrated. Dehydration affects you on cold days just like hot days. Don't knock this tip til you try it. Many guys who came to hunting camp laughed at this idea but most do it til this day and love it.

Walgreens has a great trail mix that I add m & m almonds. Hard boiled eggs for protein. Hand full of smokehouse almonds. Now if we are talking lunch then a sandwich of either pastrami or elk sausage with white cheese. Throw in an apple, maybe a can of double shot expresso.

For gun season - Summer sausage and snack sticks from last year's hunt, cheese, crackers, apples, water, and a thermos of hot black coffee. On slow days after opening weekend, instead of packing a sandwich, I'll bring a little portable gas grill, a package of venison brats, and meet the guys back at the truck for a little tailgate lunch.
Since all-day sits during gun season can get pretty long, does anyone have a good book suggestion? Hopefully outdoor/hunting/fishing related.

Can't beat hard boiled eggs and a cup of hot coffee on your gun stand in the Northern forest. Till the inevitable cup of coffee in the hand and a deer appears just standing there. Been there before. We would also always build a fire and have hot ham and cheese sandwich's or canned soup for lunch.

Guess I’m a minimalist. For all day sits, a bottle of water and a P & J is all I take. On shorter sits, I take nothing at all.

Food makes you weak. Focus on the task at hand.
Have a "snack" when you're successful.

For all day sits, usually a couple of sandwiches, chips (in a zip lock bag), maybe fruit snacks, and fun size candy bars. To drink a bottle of soda and a Gatorade. Tips: plastic bottles are nice because you can open and close (unlike cans) and opening (prior to going in the woods) your candy bars and individual snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, etc.) and putting them in a ziploc minimizes the noise of opening the little nasty wrappers they come in. To me the occasional eating something during the sit breaks up the day.

Near exactly the same as Glunker, hard boiled eggs and almonds. I find if I have sugary snacks I will have a sugar spike and get a little edgy or cravy. The protein keeps that from happening and its not a lot of fiber to make me have to poop... I peel the eggs in the AM, before I get out there in tuperware. I don't like cooking at the house even if I come in, just to avoid smell contamination. The eggs and almonds make that happen. I boil a bunch before the days in the woods and good to go whenever. I also quit coffee on hunting mornings because I hate how it makes me have to use the bathroom, and those urges bother me while I sitting.

Funny how many guys on this thread spend a pile of money on scent control & take a 7 course meal to their stand .
I take nothing in but walk back to the Jeep at noon to refuel & warmup .

Hoot - I kind of got addicted to the sweets from bear baiting......You know how that goes!! I snack all day when I am in the stand. I don't take any cold drinks to the stand, they get kept in my inside pockets. I like them warm when it is cold.

for gun hunting, I've been lighting a small fire and warming up chili. It makes a little noise, and smells, but I'd rather be comfortable than bored and hungry.

No need for the extra sugar from Gatorade (whether hot or cold) as sitting in the stand doesn’t require electrolytes to be refurbished. Water is the best hydration. I am a minimalist and will bring a couple bottles of water, which double up as pee containers along with a granola bar or two. I find that eating a solid breakfast consisting of a couple of eggs and some meat gets me through the day.

That's funny Duke. I make 4-5 eggs for breakfast and I'm usually hungry by 10. I Wish it would fill me up for longer

Duke you must not have a very long hike into woods carrying bow, stand, pack. Or u are in fantastic shape to sit 12 hrs on water alone. By the way they make gatorade zero now with no sugar. Enjoy your H20 and have a Great Hunt.

Gatorade, maybe a granola bar or two. Love coffee, but it smells, and really affects my bladder.
